Abstract

In this paper, a dual-band open-ended zeroth-order resonant (ZOR) antenna is proposed. This ZOR antenna simply consists of one unit cell of the composite right/left-handed transmission structure and two sections of microstrip lines on both sides. Experimental results show that this open-circuited antenna is able to resonate at 2.37 GHz and 5.68 GHz with infinite-wavelength propagation; moreover, the fractional bandwidths of 0.77% and 2.45% and the peak gains of 1.19 dBi and 2.05 dBi were attained in the lower and higher bands, respectively. The antenna occupies a footprint of 0.122 lambda(0) x0.349 lambda(0), where lambda(0) is the free-space wavelength at 2.37 GHz.
