Abstract: The Internet of Things (IoT) is regarded as a new revolution followed by the invention of computer and the Internet. To meet the proliferation of IoT applications, the concept of IoT/M2M common service platform is emerging to aid the integration of the sensor/actuator, network and application layers. In the future, a massive number of IoT applications and devices will produce a large amount of data and generate heavy work load to the IoT/M2M network and platform. As a result, an IoT service platform should be capable of handling such burst load with congestion control and priority classification. However, until now there has been little research focusing on such performance management mechanisms. This paper proposed a platform architecture that incorporates the long wanted performance management functionalities. It allows the users to define the priority of their applications when registering to the platform. Furthermore, it is capable of managing the system performance via congestion control. To compare our proposed approach against the one without performance management mechanisms, three load tests are designed to evaluate our architecture.
