Abstract: Employing the vibration characteristics of structure systems to assess damage location and severity is a commonly used and effective approach. While most research assumes that the system mass and stiffness on intact zone remains unchanged along time extent, less study has focused on the variations. For real world application, the variations could be caused by many reasons. The variations of stiffhess and mass could lead to inaccurate assessment. In this research the authors applying Latin hypercube sampling techniques in Monte Carlo simulation to assess structural damage statistically. The assessment procedures and influences on mass/stiffness variations were demonstrated by example.
