Abstract: A new Ce3+-doped oxyfluorosulfide phosphor, Y3OF3S2:Ce3(3+) has been investigated as a new candidate for potential application in phosphor-converted light emitting diodes (pc-LEDs). The synthesized Y3OF3S2:Ce3(3+) was characterized by powder X-ray diffraction and various spectroscopic techniques. Y3OF3S2:Ce3(3+) can be excited by wide-range (250-400 nm) radiation and shows yellow-orange broadband emission peaking at 610 nm with a quantum efficiency of 40%. These results indicate it may serve as a promising phosphor in near-UV pc-LEDs.
