Abstract: 在高速網路的設計中,主機界面往往是達到高端到端吞吐量的瓶頸。在這 篇論文中我們討論了設計主機界面架構所應有的考量,並且提出了我們所 設計的連接486個人電腦到ATM網路的主機界面。這實驗性的主機界面包含 了傳送器和接收器二大部份,在其上執行二個主要的動作。一是ATM網路 和主機界面的資料格式轉換,另一是網路和主機間資料的搬移。在主機界 面所包含的通訊協定是SAR以下到實體層的部份,並針對AAL Type 3和4的 訊務提供服務。較高層的通訊協定部份是交由主機上的軟體負責。 In the design of a high-speed network,the host interface is a critical component in achieving high end-to-end throughput. In this thesis,some of the architectural involved in host interfacing are discussed. Also,we present the design of our ATM adaptor, which connects a personal computer to a SONET- based ATM network carrying data via STS-3c format. The experimental adaptor consisting of a transmitter and a receiver execute two basic functions that are needed to be performed by a host interface. One function is data conversion, which transforms data between the ATM format and the format that is useful to the host. The other function is data movement, which involves transferring data between user memory on the host and the network transmission media. The protocols implemented by our adaptor include the layers from SAR to physical layer. AAL Type 3 and 4 are supported. All higher-level protocol processing is implemented with host software.
