Abstract: 由於網路的速度愈來愈快,使得我們的注意力逐漸轉向那些需要網路支援
大量頻寬或低延遲等特性的應用程式上。這些應用程式包括即時視訊系統
服務、視訊會議系統、分散式多媒體系統等等。它們都有個共通特性,就
是必須經由一個高速網路來傳遞資料。然而,即使高速網路在硬體上的速
度愈來愈快,但是這些應用程式卻絲毫感受不到硬體帶來的好處。主要因
素之一是高速網路受到網路通訊協定的限制,例如TCP/IP。所以,高速網
路不僅需要一個快速的硬體,同時更要一個有效率的通訊協定支援。本篇
論文著重在討改進TCP/IP通訊協定,使其能有效的支援即時視訊系統服務
。我們討論了消去checksum、logicalcopy等等方法,並提昇了TCP/IP通
訊協定的效能達46%。
While the local area networks are getting faster, the that need
the high bandwidth or low latency are interesting to These
applications include the video-on-demand, video-conference,
distributed multimedia system, and remote visualization, etc.
All of these applications need a high speed network to support
data transmission. However, although the local area networks
are getting faster, the throughput for the host's application
does not increase accordingly. One of the major bottlenecks is
the network protocols such as TCP/IP. So, a high speed network
requires not only a fast network hardware but also the
efficient implementation of end-to-end network protocols. This
thesis focuses on improving the performance of TCP/IP protocols
to support the Video-On-Demand system. We address how the TCP
protocol could be improved, such as checksum elimination and
logical data copy. We improve the TCP/IP throughput up to 46%.
