Abstract:	Inverted carbenoid species, generated from attack of phosphines at the alpha(delta')-carbon of hex-2-en-4-ynedioic acid dialkyl esters, react with aldehydes to give gamma-lactones possessing an alpha-phosphorus ylide moiety.
