Item type:Item, ATTENUATION AND FLUORESCENCE CHARACTERISTICS OF OPTICAL SIGNALS PROPAGATING IN AN ERBIUM-DOPED FIBER(1993-09-01) ;CHEN, CY ;CHI, S ;光電工程學系Department of PhotonicsFor a monochromatic input signal launched into an erbium-doped fiber (EDF), a broadband fluorescence spectrum will be generated with total power approximately 30 dB lower than input signal power. The forward fluorescence power decays slowly at long EDF length due to smaller absorption cross section for wavelength components away from absorption peal Care must be taken when the conventional cutback method is used to measure the attenuation of the optical signals in an EDF. The backward fluorescence power is saturated to a constant level, and the spectrum does not change for long EDF.Item type:Item, MEASURING EMISSION CROSS-SECTION PROFILE OF ERBIUM-DOPED FIBER WITH LOW-INPUT POWER(1994-05-26) ;CHEN, CY ;WEN, S ;CHI, S ;光電工程學系電信研究中心A simple and elegant method is proposed to measure the emission cross-section profile of erbium-doped fibre by using a short piece of erbium-doped fibre with input pump or signal power less than 1mW. Relative error is within 1% over the whole spectrum. The theoretical and experimental results are discussed.Item type:Item, ON THE MINIMALITY OF POLYGON TRIANGULATION(1990) ;CHEN, CY ;CHANG, RC ;資訊科學與工程研究所Institute of Computer Science and EngineeringThe problem of triangulating a polygon using the minimum number of triangles is treated. We show that the minimum number of triangles required to partition a simple n-gon is equal to n + 2w - d - 2, where w is the number of holes and d is the maximum number of independent degenerate triangles of the n-gon. We also propose an algorithm for constructing the minimum triangulation of a simple hole-free n-gon. The algorithm takes O(nlog2n + DK2) time, where D is the maximum number of vertices lying on the same line in the n-gon and K is the number of minimally degenerate triangles of the n-gon.Item type:Item, SELECTIVITY IN THE PHASE-TRANSFER CATALYTIC-HYDROGENATION OF NITROBENZENE BY TRANSITION-VIII METALS(1988-04-01) ;JUANG, TM ;HWANG, JC ;HO, HO ;CHEN, CY交大名義發表Item type:Item, THE EFFECTS OF LIMITING NUTRIENT TO ALGAL TOXICITY ASSESSMENT - A THEORETICAL APPROACH(1989-02-01) ;CHEN, CY ;交大名義發表 ;土木工程學系 ;National Chiao Tung UniversityDepartment of Civil EngineeringItem type:Item, THEORETICAL EVALUATION OF THE INHIBITORY EFFECTS OF MERCURY ON ALGAL GROWTH AT VARIOUS ORTHOPHOSPHATE LEVELS(1994-04-01) ;CHEN, CY ;交大名義發表 ;環境工程研究所 ;National Chiao Tung UniversityInstitute of Environmental EngineeringMercury toxicity on Selenastrum capricornutum was examined by a chemostat culture system. Phosphorus concentration within the system was controlled by means of maintaining different dilution rates of the chemostat. The study shows that EC(50) is consistently correlated with the phosphorus concentration. The sample correlation coefficient (r) between EC(50) and PO4-P concentration is found to be 0.87, which suggests that EC(50) is likely to be influenced by the phosphorus concentration. This phenomenon can be explained by a theory which describes the correlation between the tolerance and the activation level. The study indicates that nutrient conditions constitute an important factor in algal toxicity tests.Item type:Item, TOXICITY OF BINARY-MIXTURES OF ORGANIC-CHEMICALS(1995-05-01) ;CHEN, CY ;CHIOU, YS ;交大名義發表 ;環境工程研究所National Chiao Tung UniversityToxicity of binary mixtures of organic chemicals was evaluated using the Microtox test, in order to derive a more realistic approach for predicting mixture toxicity. Both additive and less than additive effects were found from binary mixtures of nonreactive toxicants. Concentration addition can be expected between two nonreactive chemicals, provided that the requirement of parallel dose-response curves is fulfilled. The study also identified the conditions for a complex-type joint action to take place. Finally, experimental isobolograms were analyzed based on a bivariate toxicity model to provide a rational estimation of model parameters. The isobolograms and the additive indices generated by this study can be used to predict the combined toxic effects from various organic mixtures. (C) 1995 by John Wiley and Sons, Inc.
