Item type:Item, CHARACTERISTICS OF SELF-INDUCED LIGHTLY-DOPED-DRAIN POLYCRYSTALLINE SILICON THIN-FILM TRANSISTORS WITH LIQUID-PHASE DEPOSITION SIO2 AS GATE-INSULATOR AND PASSIVATION-LAYER(1995-02-01) ;YEH, CF ;YANG, TZ ;CHEN, TJ ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsAs the passivation layer on the top of undoped offset region for offset-gate structured poly-Si TFTs is exposed to hydrogen plasma, a lightly-doped-like drain region could be equivalently self-induced. The hydrogenated polycrystalline silicon thin-film transistor of this structure, named self-induced Lightly-doped-drain (SI-LDD) poly-Si TFTs, was first developed with liquid-phase deposition oxide as both the gate insulator and the passivation layer. This paper describes the optimum hydrogenation condition, and the electrical characteristics for the novel SI-LDD poly-Si TFTs. The effects of DC electrical stress on SI-LDD poly-Si TFTs are also described. Finally a model is proposed to explain the degradation phenomena observed in our SI-LDD devices.Item type:Item, EXPERIMENTAL COMPARISON OF OFF-STATE CURRENT BETWEEN HIGH-TEMPERATURE-PROCESSED AND LOW-TEMPERATURE-PROCESSED UNDOPED CHANNEL POLYSILICON THIN-FILM TRANSISTORS(1993-10-01) ;YEH, CF ;YANG, TZ ;CHEN, CL ;CHEN, TJYANG, YCPoly-Si thin-film transistors (TFT's) have a large off -state current that is unacceptable for pixel river application. To quickly establish an effective solution to reduce the off-state current, systematic comparison and clarification of the mechanisms of off-state current are still insufficient. We will concentrate on an experimental comparison of off -state current mechanisms between low-temperature-processed (LTP) and high-temperature-processed (HTP) poly-Si TFT devices. Since all the off-state currents are found to be divided into three regions in LTP and HTP poly-Si TFT's, they are attributable to a resistive current in region I (low gate bias), pure thermal generation in region II (low drain bias) and Frenkel-Poole emission in region III (high gate bias, drain bias).Item type:Item, OBSERVATION OF MODE SELECTION IN A RADIALLY ANISOTROPIC CYLINDRICAL WAVE-GUIDE WITH LIQUID-CRYSTAL CLADDING(1994-04-11) ;CHEN, SH ;CHEN, TJ ;交大名義發表 ;光電工程學系National Chiao Tung UniversityObservation of mode selection in an optical fiber with nematic liquid-crystal cladding is reported. The TE01 mode is guided, while the TM01 mode leaks out. This behavior is achieved by radially oriented liquid-crystal directors in the cladding of an optical fiber with isotropic core. A theory which quantitatively accounts for the results is given.Item type:Item, PASSIVE EARTH PRESSURES WITH VARIOUS WALL MOVEMENTS(1994-08-01) ;FANG, YS ;CHEN, TJ ;WU, BF ;交大名義發表土木工程學系This paper presents experimental data of earth pressure acting against a vertical rigid wall, which moved into a mass of dry sand with a stress-free horizontal surface under various wall-movement modes. To investigate the variation of earth pressure induced by the rotation about a point above the top (RTT) and rotation about a point below the wall base (RBT) types of wall movement, the instrumented retaining-wall facility was developed at National Chiao Tung University. Based on experimental data it is found that, for a wall under translational movement, the passive pressure distribution is linear and in good agreement with Terzaghi's prediction based on the general wedge theory. For a wall under either RTT or RBT mode, the magnitude of passive thrust and its point of application are significantly affected by the mode of wall displacement. However, if the parameter n indicating location of the center of rotation is greater than 2.0, the influence of movement mode on passive earth pressure becomes less important.Item type:Item, PROPAGATION OF LOWER-ORDER MODES IN A RADIALLY ANISOTROPIC CYLINDRICAL WAVE-GUIDE WITH LIQUID-CRYSTAL CLADDING(1995-08-01) ;CHEN, TJ ;CHEN, SH ;交大名義發表 ;光電工程學系National Chiao Tung UniversityThe propagation behavior of the four lower-order modes, HE(11), TE(01), TM(01), and HE(21), in a radially anisotropic cylindrical waveguide with liquid crystal cladding is studied both theoretically and experimentally. The cylindrical waveguide is a doubly-clad fiber with an isotropic core and inner cladding and a radially anisotropic outer cladding made of nematic liquid crystal. Theoretically, the propagation and decay constants for the TE(01) and TM(01) modes are obtained by solving the wave equations exactly, while those for the HE(11) and HE(21) modes are derived using perturbation techniques under the weakly guiding approximation. It is predicted that in such a structure the guided TE(01) mode can be separated from the leaky HE(11), TM(01), and HE(21) modes. The theoretical results show good agreement with the experimental observations for a 3 cm long fiber cell with a 5 mu m inner cladding radius.Item type:Item, WAVE MIXING IN ELECTRIC-FIELD BIASED NEMATIC THIN-FILMS(1993) ;CHEN, SH ;CHEN, TJ ;SHEN, YR ;KUO, CL交大名義發表Wave mixing due to molecular reorientation in electric field biased nematic thin films is studied. By using the continuum theory, general formulae have been derived for the orientational angle distribution. The concept of a thin film grating is utilized to describe the diffraction efficiency. Experimental results which exhibit the behaviours of the transmission beam and diffraction beams have been obtained as predicted by the numerical calculation.
