Item type:Item, 4-POSITION SYNTHESIS FOR SPATIAL MECHANISMS WITH 2 INDEPENDENT LOOPS(1994-02-01) ;CHIANG, CH ;YANG, YN ;CHIENG, WH ;HOELTZEL, DA機械工程學系During the practical implementation of four-position guidance synthesis for the spatial mechanisms, many mathematical models for rigid body guidance design are found to be too complicated to solve especially for up to four positions. Our objectives are to uncover simple and analytical ways to synthesize the single degree-of-freedom, two independent loop spatial mechanisms which are capable of four precision positions. Furthermore, prescribed timing is simultaneously considered for some spatial mechanisms.Item type:Item, ADAPTIVE-CONTROL OPTIMIZATION IN END MILLING USING NEURAL NETWORKS(1995-04-01) ;CHIANG, ST ;LIU, DI ;LEE, AC ;CHIENG, WH交大名義發表In this paper, we propose an architecture with two different kinds of neural networks for on-line determination of optimal cutting conditions. A back-propagation network with three inputs and four outputs is used to model the cutting process. A second network, which parallelizes the augmented Lagrange multiplier algorithm, determines the corresponding optimal cutting parameters by maximizing the material removal rate according to appropriate operating constraints. Due to its parallelism, this architecture can greatly reduce processing time and make real-time control possible. Numerical simulations and a series of experiments are conducted on end milling to confirm the feasibility of this architecture.Item type:Item, ANALYSIS OF MINIMUM CLAMPING FORCE(1995-09-01) ;JENG, SL ;CHEN, LG ;CHIENG, WH ;交大名義發表機械工程學系Our objective is to determine the minimum clamping force that keep the workpiece stable during the metal cutting process, In analyzing the stability of the workpiece, one usually proves that no instant center of motion can occur on the clamping plane. However, previous search algorithms for the instant center of motion either lack theoretical sufficiency or computational efficiency. This paper presents a new method derived from the correlation between cutting force and clamping moment. This method increases the search efficiency by pruning inadequate search directions. In addition, examples are provided to illustrate minimum clamping force analysis under different fixturing conditions.Item type:Item, SYNTHESIS OF THE RSCR MECHANISM FOR 4 PRECISION POSITIONS WITH RELAXED SPECIFICATIONS(1992-03-01) ;CHIANG, CH ;CHIENG, WH ;HOELTZEL, DA ;機械工程學系Department of Mechanical EngineeringThe maximum number of precision positions that can be achieved by the RSCR mechanism is known to be three. However, in many practical applications, for example in pick-and-place tasks on an assembly line, four precision positions are usually preferred. That is, the second and third precision positions are used to control the departure and arrival motion of the first and the fourth precision positions through their first derivatives. This paper presents an efficient technique for synthesizing the RSCR spatial mechanism to satisfy a set of two exact precision positions plus two relaxed precision positions, thereby allowing two degrees-of-freedom of variability in the motion specifications.
