Item type:Item, A fast reliability-algorithm for the circular consecutive-weighted-k-out-of-n : F system(1998-12-01) ;Chang, JC ;Chen, RJ ;Hwang, FK ;應用數學系資訊工程學系An O(Tn) algorithm is presented for the circular consecutive-weighted-k-out-of-n:F system, where T less than or equal to min[n, [(k - w(max))/w(min)] + 1]; w(max), w(min) are the maximum, minimum weights of all components. This algorithm is simpler and more efficient than the Wu & Chen O(min[n,k] . n) algorithm. When all weights are unity, this algorithm is simpler than other O(k . n) published algorithms.Item type:Item, A fast reliability-algorithm for the circular consecutive-weighted-k-out-of-n : F system(1998-12-01) ;Chang, JC ;Chen, RJ ;Hwang, FK ;應用數學系資訊工程學系An O(Tn) algorithm is presented for the circular consecutive-weighted-k-out-of-n:F system, where T less than or equal to min[n, [(k - w(max))/w(min)] + 1]; w(max), w(min) are the maximum, minimum weights of all components. This network consists of n + 2 nodes (node 0, the source, nodes 1, 2,..., n, and node n + 1, the target) and directed links from node i to node j (0 less than or equal to i < j less than or equal to n + 1, j - i less than or equal to k). Because all nodes except the source and target, and all links are fallible, the network works if and only if there exists a working path from the source to the target. For the k = 2 case, based on identical node reliabilities and some assumptions on link reliabilities, Chen, Hwang and Li (1993) gave a recursive algorithm for the reliability of the consecutive-2-n network. In this paper we give a closed form equation for the reliability of the general consecutive-k-n network by means of a novel Markov chain method. Based on the equation, we propose an algorithm which is more efficient than other published ones for the reliability of the consecutive-k-n network.Item type:Item, Comments on "Reliability and component importance of a consecutive-k-out-of-n system" by Zuo(2000-06-01) ;Hwang, FK ;Cui, LR ;Chang, JC ;Lin, WD應用數學系Zuo claimed that the comparison of Birnbaum importance between two components for a consecutive-k-out-of-n:G system is the same as that for the F-system. We show that this is not the case and give a correct relation between the two systems. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. In this correspondence, several explicit constructions of such mappings preserving or increasing the Hamming distance are given. Some applications are given to illustrate the usefulness (if the construction. In particular, a new lower bound on the maximal size of permutation arrays (PAs) is given.Item type:Item, Improved design and data interpretation of a multi-purpose borehole testing device for soft rock(2006-06-01) ;Pan, YW ;Liao, JJ ;Huang, AB ;Chang, JCLiao, HJThe authors previously developed a multi-purpose borehole testing device (BTD). The purpose of the BTD was designed for obtaining mechanical properties including anisotropic elastic modulus and interface shear strength properties for soft rock that may be easily disturbed during sampling. Since the creation of the previous BTD, a few minor problems were experienced during in situ testing operation. In the present work, improvements both in equipment design and data interpretation were made. Improved design of BTD successfully reduced the chance for pressure meter test (PMT) membrane breakage, allowed larger expansion of borehole jack test (BJT), improved the waterproof of the bottom compartment and made easy for the whole equipment setup. The refined design has improved the in situ performance of BTD. New approach of data interpretation was also proposed. A series of BTD tests, including BJTs, borehole plate loading tests and borehole shear tests were carried out to demonstrate the capability of the refined borehole test device. (c) 2005 Elsevier Ltd. A series of laboratory material and model tests with specimens made of artificial soft rock were conducted. The results of material tests show that the properties of the artificial material are quite close to natural poorly cemented sandstone. The results of model bearing test indicate that a load-settlement curve can be roughly divided into the incipient stage, the linear stage, the yielding stage, and the final stage. The failure zones and mechanism were also identified. Failure zones were divided into the active zone, the transitional zone, and the passive zone. It was found that the bearing behavior on poorly cemented sandstone is distinct from the cases on hard rock or soil, with both plasticity and brittle characteristics. The bearing capacity formulas commonly used for soil or hard rock is not necessarily suitable for the case of poorly cemented soft sandstone.
