Item type:Item, Pioneering e-supply chain integration in semiconductor industry: a case study(2008-03-01) ;Hwang, Bang-Ning ;Chang, Shih-Chi ;Yu, Hsiao-Cheng ;Chang, Che-Wei交大名義發表Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is the largest semiconductor foundry in the world. Advanced Semiconductor Engineering Inc. (ASE) is the world's leader in semiconductor assembly and testing. From 1998 to 2004, the two companies completed electronic integration of I I key business processes through the Internet. The result is a seamless interface between TSMC, ASE and their joint customers. They can now obtain accurate, timely information on their product status and respond appropriately when needed. While the direct economic benefits are estimated to be around US$ 10 million through productivity increase over a total investment of about US$ 2 million, the indirect benefits of this initiative could be on the order of US $100 million if the joint customers' benefits are considered. In collaboration with the RosettaNet organization, TSMC and ASE leveraged their pioneering experiences to define three data exchange standards which can then be widely adopted in the semiconductor industry. This case study is a demonstration of how two leading companies in their respective fields can join forces to make a difference in creating value for the entire semiconductor industry, which in turn benefits society at large. With the momentum continuing to build and the sphere of influence continuing to expand, it is anticipated that TSMC, ASE and the entire sector will upgrade their competitiveness in terms of cost, quality, responsiveness and customer orientation.Item type:Item, THE CEOs OF HSINCHU SCIENCE PARK(2009-11-01) ;Chang, Yu-Shing ;Lin, Tyng Ruu ;Yu, Hsiao-Cheng ;Chang, Shih-Chi科技管理研究所Item type:Item, The competitive advantages of Quanta Computer - The world's leading notebook PC manufacturer in Taiwan(2008) ;Chang, Shih-Chi ;Pan, Lee-Yun ;Yu, Hsiao-Cheng ;科技管理研究所Institute of Management of TechnologyQuanta was founded in 1988 by an Electrical Engineering (EE) engineer with the objective to manufacture laptop PCs. After a decade of dedication, positioning and evolution in the personal computer industry, Quanta has become the world's largest notebook PC contract manufacturer. This paper explores the business strategies and core competencies that have made Quanta the chosen manufacturing partner by nine out of ten of the global notebook PC vendors. Quanta's operating efficiency is compared with that of other major Taiwanese notebook PC manufacturers as a gauge of Quanta's competitive edge. The risks of Desknote as a threat to existing notebook PC business as well as the opportunity for Chinese domestic IT product demand and low cost manufacturing are also addressed. This research analyses Quanta's best practices as benchmarks for other companies in the IT business.Item type:Item, The future development of global LCD TV industry(2007-01-01) ;Pan, Lee-Yun ;Chang, Shih-Chi ;Liao, Ming-Yu ;Lin, Ya-Ti交大名義發表The popularity of notebook PC creates the first high peak of TFT-LCD industry and the replacement of CRT monitor by LCD monitor makes this industry reach the second high peak. Now, the LCD TV shipment is the key driver to the third high peak in global TFT-LCD industry. It is out of question that the potential market of LCD TV is large and appealing, but not realized now. The LCD TV market is growing but not fast enough. All panels makers care about when most customers will buy LCD TV. However, there are still some hurdles to impede the sales growth of LCD TV. Only the barriers are removed or disappeared, the market will accelerate its growth. In view of the potential profits in LCD TV industry, more players than expected build its brands to compete the market share, not only original TV vendors, but panel makers, IT giants, and distributors. In this paper, we would also make market forecasts under different scenarios to take uncertainty into consideration. The potential market size will be realized in the future without doubt. But if supply and demand don't have good match, some players will be hurt definitely.Item type:Item, The implementation of SCM concepts and information technology to the photomask supply management of IC companies(2010-07-01) ;Lin, Ya-Ti ;Chang, Shih-Chi ;Yu, Hsiao-Cheng ;交大名義發表National Chiao Tung UniversityOutsourcing has been the main business operation model in the semiconductor industry worldwide. The process of ensuring the overall performance of the subcontractor is essential to a successful operation. Photomask is a major outsourcing item in the semiconductor manufacturing. Its complexity, precision, and quality requirements have become crucial for 90-nm technology node and beyond. However, the photomask outsourcing management is currently inadequate. The purpose of this paper is to propose a framework to resolve the inadequacies and enhance the photomask supply management in terms of quality, delivery, manufacturing management, and lower the risks and cost of photomask purchasing. The literature review of outsourcing, supply chain management, and information technology application has been conducted and obtained the most concerned management topics. In-depth interviews have also been performed with the experts in Taiwan's semiconductor industry to analyze the imperfection of current practice and fine-tune our proposed Internet-based supply management framework and system. Furthermore, this research has employed a real case study of a Taiwanese semiconductor manufacturing company, which is the top 5 worldwide photomask buyer, to demonstrate the procedure, cost, and benefits. The estimated benefits of the proposed framework include overall performance improvement, significant cost reductions, and timely responses between suppliers and customers. This solution can be a general framework that is able to be tailored and applied in other supply domains in the semiconductor industry or other industries.
