Item type:Item, A novel hob cutter design for the manufacture of spur-typed cutters(2009-01-19) ;Hsieh, Jen-Kuei ;Tseng, Huang-Chi ;Chang, Shinn-Liang ;機械工程學系Department of Mechanical EngineeringSpur-typed cutters with multiple cutting angles are important tools frequently used in the manufacture of many machine elements. Due to their complex geometry, the production of these cutters involves milling and several grinding processes. Such a complex manufacturing process, coupled with the need for expensive manufacturing tools, makes the cutters costly. Undercutting is a phenomenon that causes weakness at the root of a gear. Engineers use shifted gears modified tooth profiles or changes in the pressure an le to overcome,, p g undercutting in gears. However, in this paper, by utilizing the undercutting phenomenon, a novel design of straight-sided hob cutter with multiple pressure angles is proposed for the manufacture of spur-typed cutters. With the simultaneous application of multiple pressure angles, this tool design concept significantly simplifies the manufacturing process. The effects of cutting angles, the degree of undercutting, and the width of the top land of the cutter are studied. The concepts and results proposed in this paper are beneficial as design guidance for tool designers and manufacturers. (C) 2008 Elsevier B.V. It has been a challenge for a long time to design and manufacture a plunge shaving cutter to induce gear tooth modification. This paper proposes a method for designing plunge shaving cutters to manufacture gears with modifications analytically. By integrating B-spline interpolation, differential geometry, and design optimization, the goal is achieved. Efficiency is greatly improved by avoiding the traditional trial and error method.Item type:Item, Research on Gear Plunge Shaving for Gears with Tooth Modifications(2009) ;Liu, Jia-Hung ;Chang, Shinn-Liang ;機械工程學系Department of Mechanical EngineeringPlunge shaving is the most advanced gear finishing technique which only needs radial infeed. Its advantages include increased productivity, accuracy, long tool life, and a simple machine structure. For the plunge shaving method, the gear tooth modification only depends on the surface geometry of the plunge shaving cutter. The analytical description of the gear with tooth modifications is firstly constructed by B-spline surface fitting. Then, the grinding wheel profile is parameterized and optimized for minimizing the surface deviations of theoretical and ground (from re-sharpening machine) tooth surfaces of the plunge shaving cutter, in which the topographic error has been reduced. The cutting trace of plunge shaving cutter has also been analyzed so that the shaving efficiency can be improved.Item type:Item, Robust design for gear transmission error(2008-01-01) ;Chang, Shinn-Liang ;Liu, Jia-Hung ;Jin, Kai-Wei ;Hung, Ching-HuaChen, Shang-HsinTransmission error in gearing system is a critical index for product quality. Gears with appropriate tooth modification can always behave well in transmission error, i.e. the double crowned gears. Nevertheless, to manufacture a gear with double crowning by CNC gear shaving machine indeed costly. This paper investigated the manufacture of double crowned gears by traditional gear shaving machine. Taguchi Method was applied to find critical parameters in the shaving process and the transmission error had also been improved through the process of robust design.Item type:Item, Simulation of gear shaving with considerations of cutter assembly errors and machine setting parameters(2007-12-01) ;Hung, Ching-Hua ;Liu, Jia-Hung ;Chang, Shinn-Liang ;Lin, Hung-Jeng機械工程學系Gear shaving is commonly used as a finishing process for gear manufacturing. The precision of the shaved gear tooth profile is highly dependent on both the parameter adjustments of the shaving machine and the cutter assembly errors. This paper develops the mathematical model of the shaved gear with crowning taking into account the setting parameters of the gear shaving machine and cutter assembly errors. The effects of the parameters on the work gear surface and the tooth lead crowning are also investigated. The results are thought to be relevant to the design, assembly, calibration, and control of a gear shaving machine.
