To overcome the problems as well as to improve the performance, our laboratory has been inventing a novel catalyst, which was developed by coating synthesized sol-gel-derived TiO(2) nanoparticles onto the surface of Fe(0). This composite was employed on the degradation of azo dye (Acid Black-24) in the aqueous solution. Results from XPS, XRD and FE-SEM analysis indicated that the laboratory-prepared nanoscale TiO(2)/Fe(0) material is a composite of TiO(2) and Fe(0). The nanoscale TiO(2)/Fe(0) composite with UV irradiation can efficiently decolour and reduce TOC from the simulated wastewater containing Acid Black-24. The efficiency of the TiO(2)/Fe(0) composite with UV irradiation on AB-24 reduction is much more efficient than microscale, and nanoscale Fe(0) and TiO(2) particle (P-25). The evidence shows that TiO(2) particles by sol-gel process were coated on the Fe(0) particles surface, which is attributed to the longer life cycle of Fe(0) reactivity. (c) 2007 Elsevier B.V. We have proposed the oxidative mechanisms for PH(3) on the Cu/TiO(2) sample on the basis of elemental, chemical state, functional group, and microstructural analysis. Moreover, the influence of O(2) and water vapor on the capture capacity is discussed. The transformation of PH(3) followed the sequence of PH(2) -> H(2)P-OH -> HP(OH)(2) -> P(OH)(3) -> HO-P=O -> H(3)PO(4). At the same time, the CuO/Cu(OH)(2) moieties in the TiO(2) lattice were reduced to Cu(0). The H(2)P-OH and HO-P=O are the two stable intermediates, and they occupied the active species to inhibit further chemisorption. Direct oxidation of PH(3) or the intermediates with adsorbed O(2) was not efficient. However, the Cu/TiO(2) sample catalyzed their interactions via reduction and then oxidation of the Cu(2)+ ions. Water vapor acts as a cocatalyst to facilitate the oxidation of the intermediates. The end product, H(3)PO(4), migrated to bound the TiO(2) support and free the CuO/Cu(OH)(2) for the following catalytic processes. Although competitive adsorption of water molecules initially retarded the adsorption rate, the high extent of oxidation greatly promoted the capture capacity of the Cu/TiO(2) in humidified air.Item type:Item, Chemical Capture of Phosphine by a Sol-Gel-Derived Cu/TiO2 Adsorbent - Interaction Mechanisms(2011-02-10) ;Chang, Sue-Min ;Hsu, Ying-Ya ;Chan, Ting-Shan ;環境工程研究所Institute of Environmental EngineeringIn this study, a novel sol gel-derived Cu/TiO2 adsorbent has been demonstrated to exhibit exceptional capacities of 40,62, 49.52, and 108.48 mg PH3/g Cu/TiO2 for the oxidative capture of phosphine (PH3) in N-2, air, and humidified air, respectively. Aqueous biodegradation experiments were designed using the rotatable central composite design with five levels. The designed concentrations were 2-50 mg L(-1) for PHE, 480-3360 mg L(-1) for sulfate, and 5-50 mg L(-1) for initial biomass. Experimental results indicated that the biomass concentration was the most significant variable, followed by the sulfate and PHE concentrations. The desirability functions methodology (DFM) was applied to find out the maximum specific PHE removal rate (R(s)). The maximum R(s) of 9.0 mg g(-1) VSS d(-1) within the designed ranges was obtained when the initial PHE, sulfate and biomass concentrations were 18.5, 841 and 50 mg L(-1), respectively. The R(s) observed in the present study was higher than the values reported in the previous studies. Subsequently, a confirmation study was performed under the optimal conditions. and the results matched well with the R(s) estimated using DFM. Samples collected during PHE biodegradation experiments inferred the formation of two novel metabolic intermediates, 2-methyl-5-hydroxybenzaldehyde and 1-propenyl-benzene, and subsequently degraded to p-cresol, phenol and hydrocarbons. Three types of ligands, including L-cysteine (LC), mercaptosuccinic acid (MSA), and thioglycolic acid (TGA), were used as capping agents for stabilizing and functionalizing the QDs. Fluorescence quenching of the QDs by Cu2+ ions was well fitted by the Stern-Volmer equation, indicating a static quenching process. Interaction between the Cu2+ ions and the thiol-based capping agents to form Cu-S bonding was responsible for the nonradiative decay. The thiol-capped probes exhibited low detection limits (0.016-0.063mgL(-1)), high recovery (81.7-114.5%), good precision (relative standard deviation=0.36-4.56%), and suitable accuracy for the detection of Cu2+ ions in the field samples, even though those that contained Ca2+, Mg2 +, Na+, K+, and ions, which were 300-16,600 times higher in concentration than the target. These results clearly verify the feasibility of using the QDs as an early warning system for assisting TFT-LCD manufacturing facilities in compliance with strict effluent standards (0.15mgL(-1)). Among the three types of thiol-capped QDs, the TGA-capped probes were the most sensitive and the LC-capped probes exhibited the highest errors. Substantial loading of the small TGA ligands on the surface and competitive complexation of the amino groups with Cu2+ ions are responsible for the benefits and the consequences of the TGA- and LC-capped QDs for Cu2+ sensing, respectively.Item type:Item, Imprinted copolymer/SiO2 hybrid for selective adsorption of bisphenol A(2019-08-25) ;Chin, Kae Zheng ;Chang, Sue-Min ;環境工程研究所Institute of Environmental EngineeringItem type:Item, INOR 401-Comparison of sulfated and phosphated zirconia on proton conductivity: Effect of surface acidic properties(2008-08-17) ;Sung, Pin-Hsin ;Chang, Sue-Min ;環境工程研究所Institute of Environmental EngineeringItem type:Item, INOR 740-Fabrication of novel TiO2 photocatalysts with bone-skin-like porous structures(2006-09-10) ;Chang, Sue-Min ;Sung, Ping-Shing ;Hou, Chieh-yao ;環境工程研究所Institute of Environmental EngineeringItem type:Item, Physicochemical characteristics of microbial content in a modified anaerobic inclining-baffled reactor (MAI-BR) treating recycled paper mill effluent (RPME)(2019-04-21) ;Zwain, Haider M. ;Chang, Sue-Min ;Dahlan, Irvan ;環境工程研究所Institute of Environmental EngineeringMicrobial content formed in bioreactors plays a significant role in the anaerobic process. Therefore, the physicochemical characteristics of microbial content in a modified anaerobic inclining-baffled reactor (MAI-BR) treating recycled paper mill effluent (RPME) were investigated using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), thermogravimetric (TG), and derivative thermogravimetric (DTG) analyses, scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), and surface area analyzer. FTIR spectra revealed that the microbial content had stronger characteristic peaks corresponding to alcohols, water, lipids carbohydrates, proteins, and mineral compounds. Calcite, muscovite, and lepidolite were the prevalent mineral phases found by XRD analysis. The elemental of these minerals like C, Ca, N, O, and Si was confirmed by XPS results. The microbial content samples from each compartment showed similar thermal behavior. SEM images showed that straight rod-shaped and Methanosaeta-like microorganisms were predominant, whereas C, O, and Ca were noticed by EDS on the surface of granules. The BET surface areas and pores of granules are found to decline throughout the reactor's compartment, where Compartment 1 had the largest values. Thus, the findings of this study establish further understanding of the physicochemical properties of microbial content formed in MAI-BR during the RPME treatment.Item type:Item, PMSE 421-Study of the adsorption of a cationic surfactant on photoresist surfaces(2006-09-10) ;Chang, Sue-Min ;Cheng, Han-Yun ;Kao, I-Ling ;Doong, Ruey-An環境工程研究所Item type:Item, Roles of surface properties of amorphous TiO2 in photocatalytic CO2 reduction(2019-08-25) ;Kharade, Aparna ;Chang, Sue-Min ;環境工程研究所Institute of Environmental Engineering
