Item type:Item, Action Research as a Bridge Between Two Worlds: Helping The NGOs and Humanitarian Agencies Adapt Technology to Their Needs(2010-06-01) ;Chang, Yao-Jen ;Liao, Rui-Hua ;Wang, Tsen-Yung ;Chang, Yao-Sheng經營管理研究所This paper reflects upon the process of introducing social media systems into supported employment programs for peoples with severe mental illness in Taipei. Such intervention represents the encounter of two different worlds that are often-unknown to each other, i.e. IT student engineers and job coaches in NGOs. With the participatory and cyclic feature of action research approach, the process can be divided into three stages: technology-led stage, mutual infusion stage, and service-led stage. The focus of this research is to illustrate how action research provides a site for the infusion of two different horizons, that is technology experts in academia and social service providers in NGOs. The existing problems in the use of IT within NGOs were studied and changes through co-inquiry and interventions were implemented towards better utilization of IT and higher levels of service qualities. The researchers utilized an action research approach to investigate the problems, plan the actions, intervene, assess the effectiveness resulting from the actions, and specify learning outcomes.Item type:Item, Investigation of Organizational Interaction and Support in an NGO through Computer-Mediated Discussions(2011-07-01) ;Chang, Yao-Jen ;Chang, Yao-Sheng ;經營管理研究所Institute of Business and ManagementDiscussion forums have been used to support organizational communication and they have become a candidate for study of organizational behaviors. However, online behaviors of NGOs have been insufficiently studied compared to those studies conducted in education and industries. Our empirical study examined how social workers in one NGO used an internal discussion forum to help them disseminate time-sensitive employment opportunities for people with mental impairments, provide space for collective expressions of support, and enable sharing of information and experiences. The main purpose of the paper is to study a multifaceted assessment methodology to assess online discussion forums in an NGO. In this paper, we carry out a systemic set of assessment methods including network analysis, category analysis, and content analysis for evaluating online social software, and particularly discussion forums. The methods are used empirically to assess patterns of information sharing, social network, and peer support in an NGO.Item type:Item, Why do we blog? From the perspectives of technology acceptance and media choice factors(2013-04-01) ;Chang, Yao-Sheng ;Yang, Chyan ;經營管理研究所Institute of Business and ManagementBlogs, or weblogs, have rapidly grown in recent years. Blogs are easy to use, possess interactive features and attract widespread use, leading them to be recognised as a communication medium in web-based information technology. However, why do so many people use blogs? The purpose of this study is to incorporate the technology acceptance model (TAM) with media choice factors to explain and predict blog acceptance behaviours. The media choice factors include media richness, critical mass, social influence (SI) and media experience (ME). This study conducted an online field survey and applied the structure equation modelling method to investigate the empirical strength of the relationships in the proposed model. In this study, 521 experienced blog users were surveyed to examine this model. The results strongly support the proposed hypotheses, indicating that technology acceptance and media choice factors influence blog acceptance behaviours. This article provides implications and recommendations resulting from the study.
