Item type:Item, A cartoon-style rendering for physical dynamic hair animation(2015-03-01) ;Way, Der-Lor ;Chang, Yu-Sheng ;多媒體工程研究所Institute of Multimedia EngineeringHair rendering is one of the major research topics in computer graphics. A lot of papers on hair modeling have focused on photo-realistic rendering. This paper proposes a stylized cartoon hair rendering flow diagram including animated hair strand creation, stroke path generation, brush stroke line simulation, and expressive hair rendering. A reordering mechanism addresses depth and stroke line rendering for a suitable performance and temporal coherence. The proposed method creates a delicate expression similar to an artist\'s drawing. To validate real-time performance, all stroke effects are rendered with different shaders on a graphics processing unit. The method is flexible enough to allow users to select shader effects and control the parameters of each activated shader to create esthetically pleasing results. Finally, the proposed method produces excellent experimental results. These results are compared to the results of previous studies.Item type:Item, Sales Service Improvement for an Industrial Transformer Manufacturer(2010-01-01) ;Trappey, Amy J. C. ;Trappey, Charles V. ;Lin, Yi-Liang ;Kuo, Yi-KaiChang, Yu-ShengThis paper defines and integrates after-sales service processes for an industrial manufacturer of power transformers. High priced and highly customized electricity transformers are sold to power generating companies that hold high service expectations througout the product life cycle. The e-integration of business processes for prior sales, ongoing sales, and after sales services are critically important for the transformer manufactuer to overcome well know problems with traditional paper based systems. This research analyses the business processes for transformer sales services and then integrates the best practices into a sales service platform. The study studies the current practices (as-is models) of customer services offered by the company. After identifying problems such as service delays, cost inefficiencies, and inappropriate responses to customers requests and complaints, the improved (to-be) process models are built, analyzed, and structured using the enterprise systems tool INCOME4. The Internet based system incorporating the to-be service processes is implemented to improve customer response as well as enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of after sales services.Item type:Item, System Dynamics Evaluation of Renewable Energy Policies(2011-01-01) ;Trappey, Charles V. ;Trappey, Amy J. C. ;Lin, Gilbert Y. P. ;Chang, Yu-Sheng管理科學系The high consumption of fossil fuels (e.g., petroleum and natural gas) followed the industrial revolution and the introduction of new technologies and modern transportations. The high utilization of natural resources increases the environmental impact and climate change become a critical problem all over the world. Taiwan has set an aggressive target and proposed a set of greenhouse gas (GHG) control strategies to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Currently, Taiwan, similar to most developed nations, is highly dependent on thermal power which accounts for 70% of total primary energy supply in 2009. The data show that Taiwan needs to actively seek the renewable energy sources and promote effective policies to reduce carbon emissions, such as policies to promote the development of the solar energy industrial sector and utilization of solar energy products. The objective of this paper is to develop a dynamic cost-benefit evaluation method for administrative regions to review the effectiveness of their renewable energy policies. This paper develops system dynamics (SD) models to construct and simulate causal feedback relationships of solar energy applications (e.g., photovoltaics (PV) systems and solar water heating or lighting systems). The SD models, with causal feedback loops considering the renewable policies, have been developed and verified as workable with environmental and economic development experts. The results describe the relationship between the renewable policies, the impacts of economy, and the effects of carbon emissions. Afterward, the SD models are run with simulated data to analyze the required costs and related effects of carbon reduction policies. This research provides a formal methodology, reference models, and analytical results for evaluating renewable energy policies and strategies in different economic regions with different input and output factors.Item type:Item, The analysis of renewable energy policies for the Taiwan Penghu island administrative region(2012-01-01) ;Trappey, Amy J. C. ;Trappey, Charles V. ;Lin, Gilbert Y. P. ;Chang, Yu-Sheng管理科學系Taiwan dependents on thermal power for 70% of its total energy supply. The high consumption of fossil fuel increases the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and consequently causes global warming and climate change. Thus, Taiwan has proposed new regulations and measures such as "The Framework for Sustainable Energy Policy - An Energy Saving and Carbon Reduction Action Plan"and" The Master Plan of Energy Conservation and Carbon Mitigation" for domestic carbon reduction. These regulations indicate that the urgency to promote renewable energy to the public to achieve sizable reduction of CO2 emissions. The objective of this paper is to develop a cost-benefit evaluation methodology based on system dynamics (SD) modelling for any given administrative region to evaluate renewable energy policies. This research develops specific SD models with causal feedback loops to assess the effectiveness of policies and the corresponding benefits for solar energy carbon reduction. The solar energy applications on Taiwan's largest island, Penghu, are used to demonstrate the proposed methodology. The SD approaches and the evaluation of the results serve as a reference to promote solar energy in the other regions with reduced costs and reliability. (C) 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
