Item type:Item, 2-D/3-D switchable autostereoscopic display with multi-electrically driven liquid-crystal (MeD-LC) lenses(2010-09-01) ;Huang, Yi-Pai ;Liao, Lin-Yao ;Chen, Chih-Wei ;光電工程學系顯示科技研究所A cylindrical multi-electrically driven liquid-crystal lens (MeD-LC lens) is proposed to extend the range of focusing. The MeD-LC lens could be applied to switching 2-D and 3-D images by supplying a specific operating voltage on each electrode. Therefore, the MeD-LC lens has less cross-talk than that of a conventional LC lens. Furthermore, the simplified structure of a MeD-LC lens with a homogeneous LC layer is much easier for fabrication without a LC-alignment issue.Item type:Item, Analysis of the depth of field of integral imaging displays based on wave optics(2013-12-16) ;Luo, Cheng-Gao ;Xiao, Xiao ;Martinez-Corral, Manuel ;Chen, Chih-WeiJavidi, BahramIn this paper, we analyze the depth of field (DOF) of integral imaging displays based on wave optics. With considering the diffraction effect, we analyze the intensity distribution of light with multiple microlenses and derive a DOF calculation formula for integral imaging display system. We study the variations of DOF values with different system parameters. Experimental results are provided to verify the accuracy of the theoretical analysis. The analyses and experimental results presented in this paper could be beneficial for better understanding and designing of integral imaging displays. The High-Resistance liquid crystal (HRLC) lens utilized less controlled electrodes and coated a high-resistance layer between the controlled-electrodes was proposed and was used in this paper. Compare with the traditional LC lens, the HR-LC Lens could provide smooth electric-potential distribution within the LC layer under driving status. Hence, the proposed HR-LC Lens had less circuit complexity, low driving voltage, and good optical performance also could be obtained. In addition, combining with the proposed driving method called dual-directional overdriving method, the above method could reduce the switching time by applying large voltage onto cell. Consequently, the total switching time could be further reduced to around 2second. It is believed that the LC lens system has high potential in the future.Item type:Item, Deassociate the initial temporal phase deviation provided by photoelastic modulator for stroboscopic illumination polarization modulated ellipsometry(2011-03-01) ;Tsai, Hsiu-Ming ;Chen, Chih-Wei ;Tsai, Tsung-Han ;Chao, Yu-Faye光電工程學系In addition to operating the imaging ellipsometric measurements by four-specific temporal phases in the photoelastic modulated ellipsometry, we added the fifth one to solve the initial phase of the photoelastic modulator. This methodology has been developed to conquer the slow imaging processing of charge-coupled device camera for the stroboscopic illumination in the polarization modulated imaging ellipsometry. Without any calibration in its initial phase, we can perform the ellipsometric measurement by the measurements of intensity at five-specific temporal phases. The intensities of a full cycle for a point on SiO(2)/Si thin film were measured and analyzed for verifying this algorithm. The five stroboscopic illuminations were performed to measure the two-dimensional distribution of the same SiO(2)/Si thin film. (C) 2011 American Institute of Physics. The multi electrodes in the new Fresnel LC lens were placed at both inner surfaces of LC cell. By supplying specific operating voltages on each electrode, the optimized Fresnel LC lens was closed to the ideal Fresnel lens. The experiment results indicated that the Fresnel LC lens not only performed fast switching rate without over-drive method, but also had the advantage of low operating voltage. Furthermore, by using overdriving method, the response time could be further reduced but just need 15volts in a short time. It meant that a fast switching between 2D and 3D image display could be obtained by switching Fresnel LC lens on and off. In the end, the fast switching display was also demonstrated.Item type:Item, Improved Viewing Zones for Projection Type Integral Imaging 3D Display Using Adaptive Liquid Crystal Prism Array(2014-03-01) ;Chen, Chih-Wei ;Cho, Myungjin ;Huang, Yi-Pai ;Javidi, Bahram光電工程學系In this paper, we present a novel projection-type 3-D integral imaging display with an adaptive liquid crystal (LC) prism array. Comparing with conventional integral imaging display, the proposed system demonstrated that the viewing zones for a projection type integral imaging display was successfully extended by time-multiplexed technique and without any mechanical movement. In order to realize the active scanning film to project the images to different directions sequentially, Multi-Electrode Driving Liquid Crystal (MeD-LC) Lens was utilized. Comparing with traditional LC lens structures. MeD-LC lens could not only be switched on/off, but also horizontally moved to "scan" and project images. Additionally, MeD-LC lens was more competitive in respect of structure simplicity and various curvature generations.Item type:Item, Junctionless gate-all-around nanowire field-effect transistors with an extended gate in biomolecule detection(2019-02-01) ;Chen, Chih-Wei ;Lin, Ru-Zheng ;Chiang, Li-Chuan ;Pan, Fu-MingSheu, Jeng-TzongIn this study, we investigated the potential drift and sensitivity in an extended-gate (EG) field-effect-transistor (FET)-based potentiometric sensor with junctionless (JL) and inversion-mode (IM) gate-all-around (GAA) nanowire (NW) FETs. An EG electrode (EGE) coated with Al2O3 via plasmaenhanced atomic-layer deposition exhibited high stability. Both JL and IM GAA NWFETs were prepared in the same batch and exhibited high electrical performance, including a steep subthreshold swing of approximately 63 mV dec(-1) and a high ON/OFF current ratio of approximately 3 x 10(7) at V-DS = 0.1 V. However, JL GAA NWFETs exhibited higher drift stability than did IM GAA NWFETs under various working regions over a long period of operation. Furthermore, JL GAA NWFETs with EGEs (JL GAA NWFETs w-EGEs) exhibited the highest sensitivity when operating under the subthreshold region in pH sensing (Delta I/I-0 = similar to 4410%). The readout sensitivity reached S-out = 82%. A JL GAA NWFET w-EGE was also demonstrated as a potentiometric biosensor for streptavidin real-time detection at concentrations of 42 fM to 4.2 nM. Surface morphology was investigated by using scanning electron microscope (SEM), an atomic force microscope (AFM), and X-ray photoemission spectroscopy. The different oxygen-to-carbon ratio ([O]/[C] ratio) for XPS spectra indicated a composition change after plasma treatment. Surface pretilt angles were varied from 0 to 2.1 degrees under different plasma exposure times. Finally, a prototype 20.8-in. QXGA IPS-mode gray-scale medical liquid-crystal display was successfully demonstrated with high contrast ratio, excellent uniformity, and wide viewing angle using this new plasma-beam-alignment technique.Item type:Item, Optimization of Nanobelt Field Effect Transistor with a Capacitive Extended Gate for Use as a Biosensor(2018-01-01) ;Chen, Chih-Wei ;Yip, Bak-Sau ;Pan, Fu-Ming ;Sheu, Jeng-Tzong交大名義發表In this study, various types of extended gate field effect transistor (EGFET) biosensors were compared and then a model based on potential coupling between a disposable extended gate (EG) capacitor and the gate-source/drain capacitor of a nanobelt field effect transistor (NBFET) was developed and optimized for biosensor applications. Several parameters, including the dielectric thicknesses and the EG gate area coverage, the ionic strength of buffer solution, and the charge density of specific binding biomolecules, were included in the model. The potential coupling efficiency between the potential induced by surface charge on the EG and the gate voltage of the FET was analyzed and verified through pH detection. Biotin-streptavidin/avidin sensing was demonstrated with the optimized EG and NBFET. In addition, real-time measurements of the detection of botulinum neural toxin (BoNT) type-A were also performed using the EG NBFET, which could detect an extremely low concentration (20 fM) of BoNT type-A. Because the nanoelectronic field effect transistor does not need to be sacrificed after detection, the optimized EG NBFET biosensor has great potential for use in bio/chemical and point-of-care applications.
