Item type:Item, 115 Gbit/s downstream and 10 Gbit/s upstream TWDM-PON together with 11.25 Gbit/s wireless signal utilizing OFDM-QAM modulation(2014-03-01) ;Yeh, C. H. ;Chow, C. W. ;Chen, H. Y. ;Liu, Y. L.光電工程學系In this work, we propose and investigate a 115 Gbit/s (4 x 28.75 Gbit/s) downstream and 10 Gbit/s upstream time- and wavelength-division-multiplexing passive optical network (TWDM-PON) together with 11.25 Gbit/s wireless broadcasting signal using multi-band orthogonal-frequency-divisionmultiplexing (OFDM) modulation within 10 GHz bandwidth. Here, to compensate the power fading and chromatic dispersion in the higher frequency, we utilize a -0.7 chirp parameter Mach-Zehnder modulator (MZM) for the OFDM signal. Hence, negative power penalties of -0.3 and -0.4 dB in the downstream and broadcasting wireless signals; and power penalty of 0.3 dB in the upstream signal are measured at the bit error rate (BER) of 3.8 x 10 (3) after 20 km standard single mode fiber transmission without dispersion compensation. H. ;Wu, Y. F. ;Chen, H. Y.Lin, Y. H.Optical-carrier-distribution using reflective-semiconductor-optical-amplifier (RSOA)-based colorless optical-networking-unit (ONU) is a promising candidate for the wavelength-division-multiplexed passive-optical-network (WDM-PON). However, commercial available RSOA has a typical modulation-bandwidth of similar to 1 GHz, which is not enough for the future bandwidth demand. Here we demonstrate a WDM-PON using 1 GHz bandwidth RSOA-based ONU, which can be operated up to 13 Gbit/s. Experimental results show that 20 km singlemode-fibre transmission of the 13 Gbit/s orthogonal-frequency-division-multiplexed (OFDM) signal can be achieved with bit-error rate lower than the forward error correction threshold.Item type:Item, Adaptive 84.44-190 Mbit/s phosphor-LED wireless communication utilizing no blue filter at practical transmission distance(2014-04-21) ;Yeh, C. H. ;Chow, C. W. ;Chen, H. Y. ;Chen, J.Liu, Y. L.We propose and experimentally demonstrate a white-light phosphor-LED visible light communication (VLC) system with an adaptive 84.44 to 190 Mbit/s 16 quadrature-amplitude-modulation (QAM) orthogonal-frequency-division-multiplexing (OFDM) signal utilizing bit-loading method. Here, the optimal analogy pre-equalization design is performed at LED transmitter (Tx) side and no blue filter is used at the Rx side. Hence, the similar to 1 MHz modulation bandwidth of phosphor-LED could be extended to 30 MHz. In addition, the measured bit error rates (BERs) of < 3.8 x 10(-3) [forward error correction (FEC) threshold] at different measured data rates can be achieved at practical transmission distances of 0.75 to 2 m. Y. ;Sung, J. Y.Liu, Y. L."A 10 Gbit/s OFDM upstream transmission has been investigated by using a Fabry-Perot laser diode (FP-LD) based ONU with seeding-light in a colourless WDM-PON. Also demonstrated is the relationship of CW injection power and SNR of each OFDM subcarrier for a modelocked FP-LD. Moreover, when a 16-QAM OFDM modulation is applied in a modelocked FP-LD, -15.7 dBm received sensitivity at the BER of 3.8 x 10(-3) can be obtained after 20 km fibre transmission."Item type:Item, Demonstration of using multi-band 16-QAM OFDM modulation with direct-detection in 10 GHz bandwidth for 37.3-Gb/s PON(2014-02-01) ;Yeh, C. H. ;Chen, H. Y. ;Chow, C. W. ;Sung, J. Y.光電工程學系We propose and experimentally demonstrate a 37.3 Gb/s passive optical network using four-band orthogonal-frequency-division-multiplexing (OFDM) channels within 10 GHz bandwidth. Here, the required sampling rate and resolution of digital-to-analog/analog-to-digital (DA/AD) converter are only 5 GS/s and 8 bits to accomplish the 40 Gb/s OFDM downstream rate. Moreover, to reduce the power fading and fiber chromatic dispersion issues, a 0.7 chirp parameter Mach-Zehnder modulator is used for the four-band OFDM modulation scheme. Downstream negative power penalty of 0.37 dB can be obtained at the bit error rate of after 20 km standard single mode fiber transmission without dispersion compensation.Item type:Item, Demonstrations of 10 and 40 Gbps upstream transmissions using 1.2 GHz RSOA-based ONU in long-reach access networks(2012-03-01) ;Yeh, C. H. ;Chow, C. W. ;Wu, Y. F. ;Chen, H. Y.光電工程學系Carrier-distributed long-reach passive optical network (LR-PON) is a promising candidate for future access networks. In this work, we analyze and compare the 4 x 2.5 Gb/s and 4 x 10 Gb/s upstream traffics in a carrier-distributed LR-PON using four wavelength-multiplexed 2.5 Gb/s on-off keying (OOK) and 10 Gb/s optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing-quadrature amplitude modulation (OFDM-QAM) signals. Four commercial 1.2 GHz bandwidth reflective semiconductor optical amplifiers (RSOAs) are used in each optical networking unit (ONU) for the generation of the upstream signal. Due to the limited bandwidth of the RSOA, only up to 2.5 Gb/s upstream OOK signal can be generated. However, by using the spectral efficient modulation, such as OFDM-QAM, 10 Gb/s data rate can be achieved. 20, 50 and 75 km fiber transmissions are also compared using the two different kinds of modulation respectively. Y. ;Chen, K. N. ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsDiffusion behaviors of co-sputtered metals during thermal treatments were investigated, where these co-sputtered metals can be used as bonding materials for 3D Interconnects. In this paper, we report the diffusion behaviors and discuss the diffusion mechanisms of co-sputtered metals before and after annealing. Atom and vacancy volume, vacancy formation energy, and activation energy are proposed to explain the diffusion direction and diffusion rate among different co-sputtered metals. Based on the excellent bonding performance of this method, Cu/metal co-sputtering bonding is considered as a potential candidate for advanced bonding technology.Item type:Item, Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation for Multi-Band OFDM Wireless VLC System(2016-01-01) ;Yeh, C. Y. ;Chen, J.Liu, Y. L.In this paper, we propose and investigate an adaptively 84.44 to 190 Mb/s phosphor-LED visible light communication (VLC) system at a practical transmission distance. Here, we utilize the orthogonal-frequency-division-multiplexing quadrature-amplitude-modulation (OFDM-QAM) modulation with power/bit-loading algorithm in proposed VLC system. In the experiment, the optimal analogy pre-equalization design is also performed at LED-Tx side and no blue filter is used at the Rx side for extending the modulation bandwidth from 1 MHz to 30 MHz. In addition, the corresponding free space transmission lengths are between 75 cm and 2 m under various data rates of proposed VLC. And the measured bit error rates (BERs) of < 3.8x10(-3) [forward error correction (FEC) limit] at different transmission lengths and measured data rates can be also obtained. Finally, we believe that our proposed scheme could be another alternative VLC implementation in practical distance, supporting > 100 Mb/s, using commercially available LED and PD (without optical blue filtering) and compact size.Item type:Item, Hybrid OFDM-based multi-band wireless and baseband signal transmission in PON access(2012-03-29) ;Yeh, C. Z. ;Balantekin, A. B.Band, H. R.We report an improved measurement of the neutrino mixing angle theta(13) from the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment. We exclude a zero value for sin(2)2 theta(13) with a significance of 7.7 standard deviations. Electron antineutrinos from six reactors of 2.9 GW(th) were detected in six antineutrino detectors deployed in two near (flux-weighted baselines of 470 m and 576 m) and one far (1648 m) underground experimental halls. Using 139 days of data, 28909 (205308) electron antineutrino candidates were detected at the far hall (near halls). The ratio of the observed to the expected number of antineutrinos assuming no oscillations at the far hall is 0.944 +/- 0.007(stat.)+/- 0.003(syst.). An analysis of the relative rates in six detectors finds sin(2)2 theta(13)= 0.089 +/- 0.010(stat.)+/- 0.005(syst.) in a three-neutrino framework.Item type:Item, Improving the Channel Utilization of IEEE 802.11p/1609 Networks(2009) ;Wang, S. Y. ;Chou, C. L. ;Liu, K. C. ;Ho, T. W.Hung, W. J.The IEEE 802.11p/1609 standards specify a suite of communication protocols for vehicular communication networks. A new operational mode, called the WAVE (Wireless Access in Vehicular Environments) mode, is defined to enable communication among high-speed vehicles or between a vehicle and a roadside infrastructure network. In the WAVE mode, a mobile/stationary station uses a combined FDMA/TDMA channel access scheme to switch its channel between the control channel and a service channel every 50 ms. The primary purpose of this design is to detect new services announced by other stations. However, if a station would like to use all of its service channel bandwidth to transmit a large volume of data to another station, switching back to the control channel every 50 ms without doing anything useful only unnecessarily reduces the maximum possible transmission throughput by a half. To overcome this problem, in this paper we propose an improved channel access scheme to allow a station to stay on a service channel as long as it requires before returning to the control channel. Our simulation results show that the proposed scheme significantly improves the service channel utilization under various network conditions.Item type:Item, Investigation of charge loss in cycled NBit cells via field and temperature accelerations(2006) ;Tsai, W. J. ;Zous, N. K. ;Chen, H. Y. ;Liu, LenvisYeh, C. C.In nitride storage flash memories, the high-V-T state retention loss induced by field and temperature acceleration is compared between single cells and products. Our result reveals that the charge loss path is the same no matter which accelerating methods is used. The traps created at the bottom oxide during P/E cycling provide such leak paths. In addition, the annealing of interface states would play a role in the V-T loss during high-temperature bake.Item type:Item, Investigation of no analogue-equalization and blue filter for 185 Mbps phosphor-LED wireless communication(2015-07-01) ;Yeh, C. H. ;Chow, C. W. ;Liu, Y. L. ;Chen, H. Y.Liu, Y.In this demonstration, we first propose an optimal analogue front end circuit without employing pre-equalization (series peaking) to increase the modulation bandwidth of phosphor-LED in visible light communication (VLC) transmission. And there is no blue filter and post-equalization in the client side. Here, only using optimal adjustment of resistance (R), inductance (L), and capacitance (C) in bias-tee to compensate the impedance matching of phosphor-LED, nearly 32 MHz modulation bandwidth can be accomplished. Therefore, utilizing orthogonal frequency division multiplexed modulation with bit-loading algorithm in VLC system, 185 Mbps data rate can be achieved under a transmission distance of 80 cm.Item type:Item, Observation of Electron-Antineutrino Disappearance at Daya Bay(2012-04-23) ;An, F. P. ;Bai, J. Z. ;Balantekin, A. B. ;Band, H. R.Beavis, D.The Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment has measured a nonzero value for the neutrino mixing angle 0(13) with a significance of 5.2 standard deviations. Antineutrinos from six 2.9 GW(th) reactors were detected in six antineutrino detectors deployed in two near (flux-weighted baseline 470 m and 576 m) and one far (1648 m) underground experimental halls. With a 43 000 ton-GW(th)-day live-time exposure in 55 days, 10 416 (80 376) electron-antineutrino candidates were detected at the far hall (near halls). The ratio of the observed to expected number of antineutrinos at the far hall is R = 0.940 +/- 0.011(stat.) +/- 0.004(syst.). A rate-only analysis finds sin(2)2 theta(13) = 0.092 +/- 0.016(stat.) +/- 0.005(syst.) in a three-neutrino framework.Item type:Item, Polarization-multiplexed 2 X 2 phosphor-LED wireless light communication without using analog equalization and optical blue filter(2015-01-01) ;Yeh, C. H. ;Chen, H. Y. ;Liu, Y. L. ;Chow, C. W.光電工程學系We propose and experimentally demonstrate a 380 (2 x 190) Mbps phosphor-light-emitting-diode (LED) based visible light communication (VLC) system by using 2 x 2 polarization-multiplexing design for in-building access applications. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time of employing polarization-multiplexing to achieve a high VLC transmission capacity by using phosphor-based white-LED without optical blue filter. Besides, utilizing the optimum resistor-inductor-capacity (RLC) bias-tee design, it can not only perform the function of combining the direct-current (DC) and the electrical data signal, but also act as a simple LED-Tx circuit. No optical blue filter and complicated post-equalization are required at the Rx. Here, the orthogonal-frequency-division-multiplexing (OFDM) quadrature-amplitude-modulation (QAM) with bit-loading is employed to enhance the transmission data rate. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. B.The Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment was designed to achieve a sensitivity on the value of sin(2) 2 theta(13). to better than 0.01 at 90% CL. The experiment consists of eight antineutrino detectors installed underground at different baselines from six nuclear reactors. With data collected with six antineutrino detectors for 55 days, Daya Bay announced the discovery of a non-zero value for sin(2) 2 theta(13) with a significance of 5.2 standard deviations in March 2012. The most recent analysis with 139 days of data acquired in a six-detector configuration yields sin(2) 2 theta(13) = 0.089 +/- 0.010(stat.) +/- 0.005(syst.), which is the most precise measurement of sin(2) 2 theta(13) to date.Item type:Item, Simple Colorless WDM-PON With Rayleigh Backscattering Noise Circumvention Employing m-QAM OFDM Downstream and Remodulated OOK Upstream Signals(2012-07-01) ;Yeh, C. H. ;Chow, C. W. ;Chen, H. Y. ;光電工程學系Department of PhotonicsWe propose and experimentally demonstrate a new colorless wavelength-division-multiplexed passive optical network (WDM-PON) architecture with the Rayleigh backscattering (RB) interferometric beat noise mitigation by using cross-remodulation architecture. The proposed WDM-PON has a simply configuration by combining two WDM-PONs at two wavelength bands to support twice the number of users. We experiment different m-quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) (m = 16, 32 and 64) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) downstream signal and the remodulated on-off keying (OOK) upstream signal by using the 2.5 GHz directly modulated laser (DML) and 1.2 GHz reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (RSOA) respectively. Hence, the total data rate achieved for the downstream signals are 10 Gb/s, 12.5 Gb/s, and 15 Gb/s respectively for different m-QAM. For the upstream signal, we over-drive the RSOA and 2.5 Gb/s OOK upstream traffic can be achieved. In addition, the proposed PON can also be upgraded to support more wavelength bands to meet the increase demand of capacity.Item type:Item, Spectral Measurement of Electron Antineutrino Oscillation Amplitude and Frequency at Daya Bay(2014-02-10) ;An, F. P. ;Balantekin, A. B. ;Band, H. R. ;Beriguete, W.Bishai, M.A measurement of the energy dependence of antineutrino disappearance at the Daya Bay reactor neutrino experiment is reported. Electron antineutrinos ((v) over bar (e)) from six 2.9 GW(th) reactors were detected with six detectors deployed in two near (effective baselines 512 and 561 m) and one far (1579 m) underground experimental halls. Using 217 days of data, 41 589 (203 809 and 92 912) antineutrino candidates were detected in the far hall (near halls). An improved measurement of the oscillation amplitude sin(2) 2 theta(13) = 0.090(-0.009)(+0.008) and the first direct measurement of the (v) over bar (e) mass-squared difference vertical bar Delta m(ee)(2)vertical bar = (2.59(-0.20)(+0.19) x 10(-3) eV(2)) is obtained using the observed (v) over bar (e) rates and energy spectra in a three-neutrino framework. This value of vertical bar Delta m(ee)(2)vertical bar eejis consistent with vertical bar Delta m(mu mu)(2)vertical bar measured by muon neutrino disappearance, supporting the three-flavor oscillation model.
