Item type:Item, A 13.56 MHZ METAMATERIAL FOR THE WIRELESS POWER TRANSMISSION ENHANCEMENT IN IMPLANTABLE BIOMEDICAL DEVICES(2019-01-01) ;Chen, Kuan-Jung ;Chen, Wei-Ming ;Tan, Li-Yang ;Cheng, Yu-TingKer, Ming-DouThis paper presents a 13.56MHz metamaterial for wireless power transmission (WPT) enhancement in implantable biomedical devices based on the evanescent wave coupling mechanism. The power transmission efficiency (PTE) will increase from 46 to 51% with the metamaterial while the transmitting and receiving antennas are placed with a 1 cm distance and lcm offset horizontal misalignment, will increase from 39 to 46% with the metamaterial while the two antenna planes are placed at a distance of 1.5 cm with an axial offset of 15, and will increase from 28 to 50% with two pieces of metamaterial placed with a 0.5cm distance while the two antenna planes are placed with a 1.5 cm distance and 1 cm offset horizontal misalignment.Item type:Item, A new graphene-modified protic ionic liquid-based composite membrane for solid polymer electrolytes(2011) ;Ye, Yun-Sheng ;Tseng, Chi-Yung ;Shen, Wei-Chung ;Wang, Jing-ShiuanChen, Kuan-JungThe production of a solid polymer electrolyte with high ionic conductivity and mechanical properties is the main fabrication challenge in application of polymer electrolyte membranes. This paper describes a novel polymer electrolyte membrane using protic ionic liquids (PILs) with ionic liquid polymer modified graphene (G) sheets [denoted PIL(NTFSI)-G] that exhibit dramatic enhancements in ionic conductivity (257.4%) and mechanical properties (345% improvement in tensile strength and a near 25-fold increase in modulus were achieved at 150 degrees C) with a minimal loading of PIL(NTFSI)-G (0.5 wt %). The addition of graphene, by sparing the high-cost PIL addition, gives a 20% cost-saving. The homogeneous distribution of graphene sheets as a 3D network through the polymer matrix in the composite membrane provides a high degree of continuous and interconnected transfer channels to facilitate ion transfer and enhance nanofiller-matrix adhesion to reinforce mechanical properties. This newly developed material provides a potential route toward the design and fabrication of polymer electrolytes.Item type:Item, Effects of Hydrogen Plasma Treatment on Field-Emission Characteristics of Palladium Nanogap Emitters(2008) ;Tsai, Chih-Hao ;Chen, Kuan-Jung ;Pan, Fu-Ming ;Lo, Hsiang-YuLi, YimingNanogaps were prepared on the Pd line electrode by focused ion beam, and electron field-emission characteristics of the Pd nanogap emitter subject to hydrogen plasma treatment were studied. The as-prepared nanogap had smooth and uniform gap edges, and thus field-emission characteristics of the nanogap emitter were primarily dependent on the gap separation. After the hydrogen plasma treatment, the field-emission property of the Pd nanogap emitter was significantly enhanced. The improvement in the field-emission property was mainly attributed to formation of a ragged morphology on the nanogap emitter during the hydrogen plasma treatment. The ragged morphology provided more emitting sites with a high field enhancement factor. The Fowler-Nordheim plot was used to elucidate the dependence of field-emission characteristics of the Pd nanogap emitter on the plasma-induced ragged morphology. The two facing cross-sections of the as-prepared nanogap were smooth and exhibited a large turn-on voltage for electron field emission depending on the separation of the gap. Hydrogen plasma treatment was used to increase the edge roughness of the nanogap, and thereby dramatically improve the field emission characteristics. For a gap with a separation of 90 nm, the turn-on voltage reduced to 50 V from 175 V after the hydrogen plasma treatment.Item type:Item, Nanogap formation by palladium hydrogenation for surface conduction electron emitters fabrication(2007-04-16) ;Tsai, Chih-Hao ;Pan, Fu-Ming ;Chen, Kuan-Jung ;Wei, Cheng-YangLiu, MeiNanometer-scale gaps in Pd strips are obtained by hydrogen absorption under high pressure treatment. The resulting lattice constant increase due to the Pd phase transformation after hydrogen uptake results in a large compressive stress on the thin Pd films. Under proper geometric arrangement of the Pd electrode within a surface conduction electron (SCE) emitter structure, a single nanogap per SCE device is obtained. A turn-on voltage of 41 V is observed for emitters with a 25 nm gap. (c) 2007 American Institute of Physics.
