Item type:Item, A Light Guide Plate That Uses Asymmetric Intensity Distribution of Mini-LEDs for the Planar Illuminator(2019-03-08) ;Ye, Zhi-Ting ;Pai, Yung-Min ;Chen, Cheng-Huan ;Kuo, Hao-ChungChen, Lung-ChienTraditional backlights are designed with new dot patterns, and then injection molding, laser beam fabrication, or UV (Ultraviolet) roll-to-plate imprinting is used to apply dot patterns to a light guide plate-the process consumes considerable time and resources. Therefore, we propose a novel light guide design that does not use a dot pattern. We designed an asymmetric intensity distribution of mini-LEDs (Light Emitting Diode) and a light guide plate with a fully printed diffusion reflection on the bottom surface for a planar illuminator. The design rules for the proposed architecture are described in this paper. The archetype design with a 152.4 mm circular down-light has a diameter of 143 mm for the planar light source module. The experiment achieved a total efficiency of 85% and uniformity of 92.6%.Item type:Item, A Special Section on Flexible Solar Cells(2017-08-01) ;Chen, Lung-Chien ;Cheong, Kuan Yew ;Kuo, Hao-Chung ;Yang, Shengyi光電工程學系Item type:Item, Effect of Washing Solvents on the Properties of Air-Synthesized Perovskite CsPbBr3 Quantum Dots for Quantum Dot-Based Light-Emitting Devices(2020-01-01) ;Chen, Lung-Chien ;Tien, Ching-Ho ;Tseng, Po-Wei ;Tseng, Zong-LiangHuang, Wei-LunIn order to improve the stability and cost of perovskite CsPbBr3 and establish a preparation process for quantum dot materials with excellent luminescence properties, CsPbBr3 quantum dots were synthesized by the hot injection method and the ice bath method in air ambient. Then, a proprietary purification system was used to improve the properties of the quantum dots and prepare high-quality perovskite quantum dot films. Optimal material and light characteristics were exhibited with ethyl acetate:hexane as the purification solvent. In the solution form, the photoluminescence wavelength could be maintained at 508 nm with almost no shift compared with other conditions, and the quantum yield could reach 99%; however, superior performance was obtained in the thin-film form, which exhibited little to no shift in the photoluminescence wavelength and, surprisingly, achieved a quantum yield of 91.6% with a narrow PL emission with a full width at half-maximum of 28 nm. In addition, exceptional thin-film uniformity was observed from scanning electron microscopy image analyses. The CsPbBr3 quantum dot light-emitting diode purified with ethyl acetate:hexane demonstrated an open-circuit voltage of 4 V, a maximum luminous brightness of 488 cd m(-2), and a maximum external quantum efficiency of 0.14%.Item type:Item, Formation and characterization of preferred oriented perovskite thin films on single-crystalline substrates(2018-06-01) ;Chen, Lung-Chien ;Chen, Cheng-Chiang ;Chang, Sheng Hsiung ;Lee, Kuan-LinTseng, Zong-LiangThree single-crystalline (Al2O3, GaN/Al2O3 and InAs) substrates are used to assist the formation of crystallographically preferred oriented CH3NH3PbI3 (MAPbI(3)) thin films. The estimation of the lattice mismatch at the MAPbI(3)/substrate interface and water-droplet contact angle experiments indicate that the formation of a preferred oriented MAPbI(3) thin film is induced by the single-crystalline substrate and is insensitive to the surface wettibility of the substrate. Moreover, the experimental results suggest that the lattice mismatch at the MAPbI(3)/single-crystalline semiconductor interface can strongly influence the photovoltaic performance of tandem solar cells.Item type:Item, High-Uniformity Planar Mini-Chip-Scale Packaged LEDs with Quantum Dot Converter for White Light Source(2019-05-29) ;Chen, Lung-Chien ;Tien, Ching-Ho ;Chen, De-Fu ;Ye, Zhi-TingKuo, Hao-ChungThis study proposes a novel direct-lit mini-chip-scale packaged light-emitting diode (mini-CSPLED) backlight unit (BLU) that used quantum dot (QD) film, diffusion plate, and two prism films to improve brightness uniformity. Three different luminous intensity units, 120 degrees mini-CSPLED, 150 degrees mini-CSPLED, and 180 degrees mini-CSPLED with different emission angle structures were fabricated using a CSP process. In terms of component characteristics, although the 180 degrees mini-CSPLED light output power is about loss 4% (at 10mA) compared with 150 degrees mini-CSPLED, it has a large emission angle that forms a planar light source that contributes to improving the BLU brightness uniformity and reduced quantity of LEDs at the same area. In terms of BLU analysis, the blue mini-CSPLEDs with different emission angles excite the different QD film thicknesses; the chromaticity coordinates conversion to the white light region. The BLU brightness increases as the QD film thickness increases from 60, 90, and 150m. This result can achieve a brightness uniformity of 86% in a 180 degrees mini-CSPLED BLU + 150-m-thick QD films as compared to the 120 degrees mini-CSPLED BLU and 150 degrees mini-CSPLED BLU.Item type:Item, Nanoparticle-Doped Polydimethylsiloxane Fluid Enhances the Optical Performance of AlGaN-Based Deep-Ultraviolet Light-Emitting Diodes(2019-07-15) ;Ye, Zhi Ting ;Pai, Yung-Min ;Lin, Chih-Hao ;Chen, Lung-ChienHong Thai NguyenThis paper proposes a new encapsulation structure for aluminum nitride-based deep UV light-emitting diodes (DUV-LEDs) and eutectic flip chips containing polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) fluid doped with SiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) with a UV-transparent quartz hemispherical glass cover. Experimental results reveal that the proposed encapsulation structure has considerably higher light output power than the traditional one. The light extraction efficiency was increased by 66.49% when the forward current of the DUV-LED was 200mA. Doping the PDMS fluid with SiO2 NPs resulted in higher light output power than that of undoped fluid. The maximum efficiency was achieved at a doping concentration of 0.2wt%. The optical output power at 200mA forward current of the encapsulation structure with NP doping of the fluid was 15% higher than that without NP doping. The optical output power of the proposed encapsulation structure was 81.49% higher than that of the traditional encapsulation structure. The enhanced light output power was due to light scattering caused by the SiO2 NPs and the increased average refractive index. The encapsulation temperature can be reduced by 4 degrees C at a driving current of 200mA by using the proposed encapsulation structure.Item type:Item, Perovskite CsPbBr3 Quantum Dots Prepared Using Discarded Lead-Acid Battery Recycled Waste(2019-03-02) ;Chen, Lung-Chien ;Tien, Ching-Ho ;Ou, Sin-Liang ;Lee, Kun-YiTian, JianjunPerovskite CsPbBr3 quantum dot (CsPbBr3-QD) recovery was performed using lead scrap from lead storage batteries. The perovskite CsPbBr3-QD characteristics were analyzed using different PbO/recycled PbO2 ratios. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to observe the film surface morphology and cross-section. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were used to observe the perovskite CsPbBr3-QDs' structural characteristics. A photoluminescence (PL) measurement system was used to analyze the optical properties. The results show that lead scrap from lead-acid batteries as a material for perovskite CsPbBr3-QD production can be successfully synthesized. This saves material and also proves that recycling is valuable. The proposed approach is helpful for future material shortages and materials not easily accessible. Although the efficiency is not very high, this process will be purified using recycled lead in the future to achieve higher quantum yield.Item type:Item, Photocatalytic study of Zinc Oxide with bismuth doping prepared by spray pyrolysis(2015-09-01) ;Lin, Tzu-Yang ;Hsu, Yu -Ting ;Lan, Wen-How ;Huang, Chien-JungChen, Lung-ChienThe unintentionally doped and bismuth (Bi) doped zinc oxide (ZnO) films were prepared by spray pyrolysis at 450 degrees C with zinc acetate and bismuth nitrate precursor. The n-type conduction with concentration 6.13 x10(16)cm(-3) can be observed for the unintentionally doped ZnO. With the increasing of bismuth nitrate concentration in precursor, the p-type conduction can be observed. The p-type concentration 4.44x10(17)cm(-3) can be achieved for the film with the Bi/Zn atomic ratio 5% in the precursor. The photoluminescence spectroscopy with HeCd laser light source was studied for films with different Bi doping. The photocatalytic activity for the unintentionally doped and Bi-doped ZnO films was studied through the photodegradation of Congo red under UV light illumination. The effects of different Bi contents on photocatalytic activity are studied and discussed. Results show that appropriate Bi doping in ZnO can increase photocatalytic activity.Item type:Item, Unraveling current hysteresis effects in regular-type C-60-CH3NH3PbI3 heterojunction solar cells(2017-12-07) ;Chen, Lung-Chien ;Lin, Yu-Shiang ;Tang, Po-Wen ;Tai, Chao-YiTseng, Zong-LiangComprehensive studies were carried out to understand the origin of the current hysteresis effects in highly efficient C-60-CH3NH3PbI3(MAPbI(3)) heterojunction solar cells, using atomic-force microscopy, transmittance spectra, photoluminescence spectra, X-ray diffraction patterns and a femtosecond time-resolved pump-probe technique. The power conversion efficiency (PCE) of C-60-MAPbI(3) solar cells can be increased to 18.23% by eliminating the point (lattice) defects in the MAPbI(3) thin film which is fabricated by using the one-step spin-coating method with toluene washing treatment. The experimental results show that the point defects and surface defects of the MAPbI(3) thin films can be minimized by varying the dropping time of the washing solvent. The point defects (surface defects) can be reduced with an (a) increase (decrease) in the dropping time, resulting in an optimized dropping time for obtaining the defect-minimized MAPbI(3) thin film deposited on top of the C-60 thin film. Consequently, the formation of the defect-minimized MAPbI(3) thin film allows for high-efficiency MAPbI(3) solar cells.
