Item type:Item, A New VLSI 2-D Diagonal-Symmetry Filter Architecture Design(2008) ;Chen, Pei-Yu ;Van, Lan-Da ;Reddy, Hari C. ;Lin, Chin-Teng資訊工程學系In this paper, we propose two new two-dimensional (2-D) IIR and FIR filter architectures for 2-D transfer function with diagonal symmetry. The presented type-I structure with diagonal symmetry has the lowest number of multipliers, and zero latency without sacrificing the number of the delay elements. Importantly, the proposed type-II IIR filter possesses high speed, local broadcast, and the same number of multipliers and latency as the type I shows at expense of a slight increment of number of delay elements.Item type:Item, A New VLSI 2-D Fourfold-Rotational-Symmetry Filter Architecture Design(2009) ;Chen, Pei-Yu ;Van, Lan-Da ;Reddy, Hari C. ;Lin, Chin-Teng資訊工程學系In this paper, we propose two new two-dimensional (2-D) IIR and FIR filter architectures for 2-D transfer function using fourfold rotational symmetry. The presented type-I structure with fourfold rotational symmetry has the lowest number of multipliers, and zero latency. Importantly, the proposed type-II IIR filter possesses high speed, local broadcast, and the same number of multipliers and latency as the type I shows at expense of a slight increment of number of delay elements.Item type:Item, Area-Efficient 2-D Digital Filter Architectures Possessing Diagonal and Four-Fold Rotational Symmetries(2013-01-01) ;Chen, Pei-Yu ;Van, Lan-Da ;Reddy, Hari C. ;Khoo, I-Hung交大名義發表In this paper, two area-efficient two-dimensional (2-D) IIR filter architectures for 2-D transfer function with diagonal and four-fold rotational symmetries are proposed for image processing. For this purpose, two different intermediate transfer functions are applied and the corresponding two new filter architectures are obtained. Under satisfactory average error performance, we determine that the new filter structure requires less multiplier wordlength than the previously published Type-1 filter structure. With the features of less numerator multiplier wordlength and shorter critical path, the proposed diagonal and four-fold rotational symmetry filter architectures can result in 10.17% and 3.35% area reduction with respect to the published Type-1 IIR filter structures with diagonal and four-fold rotational symmetries in terms of synthesis results.Item type:Item, FPGA-Oriented Real-Time EMD-Based Breath Signal Processing System on ARM11 MPCore Platform(2018-01-01) ;Lu, Tsung-Che ;Lin, Chien-Liang ;Chen, Pei-Yu ;Lan-Da Van資訊工程學系In this paper, a complete FPGA-oriented real-time empirical mode decomposition (EMD)-based breath signal processing system on ARM11 MPCore platform is developed. The system consists of three subsystems including biomedical signal acquisition, FPGA-oriented EMD accelerator and EMD processing result display. In this work, the previous published multiple stopping criteria and high IMFs Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC)-oriented EMD accelerator is deployed to FPGA of ARM 11 MPCore platform such that the computation time of the overall system can he reduced. An external SRAM architecture in ARM 11 MPCore platform is adopted to process a large amount of data. The three subsystems are connected by a high speed internet such that real time data transportation is achieved. From the evaluation results, for 10K data size, the FPGA-oriented EMD accelerator can speed up by 29.21 times, 20.20 times, and 15.47 times compared with ARM11 processor running single core, dual cores, and four cores, respectively.Item type:Item, Genetic polymorphism of catechol-O-methyltransferase modulates the association of green tea consumption and lung cancer(2019-07-01) ;Lai, Chung-Yu ;Kerr, Chih-Ling ;Huang, Chia-Chen ;Chen, Chun-ChiehTsai, Chin-HungTea polyphenols are strong antioxidants, which can be rapidly O-methylated by catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT). Thus, it is possible that the genetic polymorphism of COMT can modulate the association of green tea consumption and lung cancer. Here, we designed a case-control study to evaluate the combined effect of green tea consumption and COMT genotypes on the risk of lung cancer. A total of 237 lung cancer patients and 474 healthy controls were recruited. Questionnaires were administered to obtain demographic data, smoking status, green tea consumption, fruits and vegetables intake, exposure to cooking fumes, and family history of lung cancer. Genotypes for COMT were identified by PCR. Smoking, green tea consumption, exposure to cooking fumes, and family history of lung cancer were associated with the development of lung cancer. When green tea drinkers carrying COMT HL/LL genotypes were selected as the reference group, drinkers carrying the COMT HH genotype had a higher risk for the development of lung cancer (odds ratio: 1.97, 95% confidence interval: 0.99-3.91). Among the current and ever smokers, the elevated risk for lung cancer was more apparent in green tea drinkers carrying the COMT HH genotype compared with green tea drinkers carrying COMT HL/LL genotypes (odds ratio: 5.84, 95% confidence interval: 1.75-19.45). Green tea drinkers with greater activity of the COMT genotype, whereby polyphenols are effectively excluded, will gain fewer protective benefits against lung cancer development.Item type:Item, Low-toxic cycloplatinated polymer dots with rational design of acceptor comonomers for enhanced photocatalytic efficiency and stability(2020-07-05) ;Chang, Chih-Li ;Lin, Wei-Cheng ;Jia, Chuan-Yu ;Ting, Li-YuJayakumar, JayachandranBy mimicking nature photosynthesis, a library of cycloplatinated polymer dots (Pdots) and pristine Pdots are presented and investigated the importance of selecting acceptor comonomers. A clear design strategy for the selection of acceptor comonomers of Pdots to achieve environmental-friendly, high efficiency, and long stability of photocatalytic reaction can be understood. The active PFTBTA-PtPy Pdots provide the excellent hydrogen evolution rates up to 7.34 +/- 0.82 mmol h(-1) g(-1) under a methanol-free solution and visible-light-driven system. MTT assay experiments confirm the use of the cycloplatinated Pdots as photocatalysts can minimize the toxicity, relative to the conventional approach that directly adding Pt into a solution system. Furthermore, the Pdots can be reactivated for hydrogen generation by the recycling process. The result proves that the use of cycloplatinated Pdots can not only enhance the HER efficiency and stability but also reduce the toxicity.Item type:Item, Multiple Stopping Criteria and High-Precision EMD Architecture Implementation for Hilbert-Huang Transform(2014-01-01) ;Lu, Tsung-Che ;Chen, Pei-Yu ;Yeh, Shih-Wei ;Van, Lan-Da資訊工程學系In this work, a multiple stopping criteria and high-recision empirical mode decomposition (EMD) hardware architecture implementation is proposed for Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT) in biomedical signal processing. The proposed architecture can support multiple stopping criteria including the constant criteria, the SD criteria and the ratio criteria. The 38-bit floating point precision is adopted in this work to support 10 IMF components with enough accuracy. The off-chip memory architecture is adopted to increase the processing capacity. By the pipelined cubic spline coefficient unit (PCSCU), the computation time can be reduced. The proposed EMD hardware architecture is implemented in TSMC 90 nm CMOS process with the core area of 4.47 mm(2) at the operating frequency of 40 MHz. The post-layout simulation result shows that our work with the constant criterion can speed up the performance 50.4 times compared to the software computation on a single core of ARM11 for 2K data size breathing signals.Item type:Item, New 2-D Filter Architectures with Quadrantal Symmetry and Octagonal Symmetry and Their Error Analysis(2017-01-01) ;Chen, Pei-Yu ;Van, Lan-Da ;Reddy, Hari C. ;Khoo, I. H. ;Reddy, Hari C.資訊工程學系In this paper, we propose two new two-dimensional (2-D) IIR filter architectures with quadrantal and diagonal magnitude symmetry using delta operator. These filter architectures can attain lower coefficient sensitivity in comparison with the traditional shift operator formulation (i.e., the conventional z-domain filters). The IIR filter structures presented not only achieve lower coefficient sensitivity without sacrificing the number of multipliers, but in fact reducing the number of multipliers by 36.36% compared with the previous corresponding quadrantal symmetry filter structures using delta operator with order N=3.Item type:Item, Power-Efficient and Cost-Effective 2-D Symmetry Filter Architectures(2011-01-01) ;Chen, Pei-Yu ;Van, Lan-Da ;Khoo, I-Hung ;Reddy, Hari C.Lin, Chin-TengThis paper presents two-dimensional (2-D) VLSI digital filter structures possessing various symmetries in the filter magnitude response. For this purpose, four Type-1 and four Type-2 power-efficient and cost-effective 2-D magnitude symmetry filter architectures possessing diagonal, fourfold rotational, quadrantal, and octagonal symmetries with reduced number of multipliers and one power-efficient and cost-effective multimode 2-D symmetry filter are given. By combining the identities of the four Type-1 symmetry filter structures, the proposed multimode 2-D symmetry filter is capable of providing four different operation modes: diagonal symmetry mode (DSM), fourfold rotational symmetry mode (FRSM), quadrantal symmetry mode (QSM), and octagonal symmetry mode (OSM). The proposed diagonal, fourfold rotational, quadrantal, and octagonal symmetry filter structures can attain power savings of 16.77%, 36.30%, 22.90%, and 37.73% with respect to that of the conventional 2-D filter design without symmetry. On the other hand, the proposed DSM, FRSM, QSM, and OSM modes can reduce power consumption by 11.01%, 31.42%, 17.53%, and 35.26% compared with that of the conventional 2-D filter design. The proposed multimode filter can result in a 63.25% area reduction compared with the sum of the areas of the four individual Type-1 symmetry filter structures.Item type:Item, Symmetry Incorporated Cost-Effective Architectures for Two-Dimensional Digital Filters(2019-01-01) ;Van, Lan-Da ;Khoo, I-Hung ;Chen, Pei-Yu ;Reddy, Haranatha (Hari) C.交大名義發表Professor Fettweis as far back as 1977 published a paper generalizing McClellan transformation to obtain circular symmetry in 2-D and spherical, hyper-spherical symmetries in multidimensional digital filters [1]. This survey paper presents state-of-the-art two-dimensional (2-D) VLSI digital filter architectures possessing various symmetries in the filter magnitude response. Preceding the symmetry structures, a generalized formulation is given that allows the derivation of various new 2-D VLSI filter structures of any order without global broadcast. Following this, two types (namely, Type 1 [20] and Type 3 [21], [25], [26]) of cost-effective 2-D magnitude symmetry filter architectures possessing diagonal, four-fold rotational, quadrantal, and octagonal symmetries with reduced number of multipliers are given. By combining the identities of the Types-1 and 3 symmetry filter structures, multimode 2-D symmetry filters which enable the above four symmetry modes are discussed. The Type-1 and Type-3 multimode filters can result in a 65.3% cost reduction in terms of number of multipliers compared with the sum of the multipliers of the four individual Type-1 symmetry filter structures studied in this paper. Furthermore, Type-3 has shorter critical path than Type-1 multimode filter. The paper is concluded with the presentation of a 2-D filter design example and a corresponding structure.Item type:Item, Type-3 2-D Multimode IIR Filter Architecture and the Corresponding Symmetry Filter's Error Analysis(2017-01-01) ;Chen, Pei-Yu ;Lan-Da Van ;Reddy, Hari C. ;Khoo, I. H.資訊工程學系In this paper, we propose a low-cost high-speed Type-3 two-dimensional (2-D) multimode symmetry IIR filter architecture including four different operation modes: diagonal symmetry mode (DSM), fourfold rotational symmetry mode (FRSM), quadrantal symmetry mode (QSM), and octagonal symmetry mode (OSM). For multimode purpose, the Type-3 transfer function is applied and the interconnections to achieve corresponding four symmetry filter architectures are proposed. The proposed 2-D IIR filter structure has lower number of adders and shorter critical path than the published Type-1 IIR filter structure without sacrificing multipliers. Furthermore, the theoretical error analysis of 2-D IIR filter architectures with diagonal symmetry and four-fold rotational symmetry is studied.Item type:Item, Type-4 2-D Diagonal and Four-Fold Rotational Symmetry Digital Filter Architectures(2018-01-01) ;Van, Lan-Da ;Lu, Tsung-Che ;Chen, Pei-Yu ;Reddy, Hari C.資訊工程學系In this paper, Type-4 two-dimensional (2-D) separable denominator IIR filter architecture is studied. This structure has a critical path of one multiplication and three additions. Using this Type-4 2-D separable denominator IIR filter architecture, three new 2-D IIR filter structures with diagonal and four-fold rotational symmetries are given. These structures have a critical path of one multiplication and four additions. Further, using a different coefficient constraint, a new Type-3 2-D diagonal symmetry IIR filter architecture with a critical path of one multiplication and two additions is obtained. In all, four different 2-D IIR filter architectures with diagonal and four-fold rotational symmetries are presented.
