Item type:Item, An EOG-Based Automatic Sleep Scoring System and Its Related Application in Sleep Environmental Control(2014-01-01) ;Kuo, Chih-En ;Liang, Sheng-Fu ;Lee, Yi-Chieh ;Cherng, Fu-YinLin, Wen-ChiehHuman beings spend approximately one third of their lives sleeping. Conventionally, to evaluate a subjects sleep quality, all-night polysomnogram (PSG) readings are taken and scored by a well-trained expert. Unlike a bulky PSG or EEG recorder on the head, the development of an electrooculogram (EOG)-based automatic sleep-staging system will enable physiological computing systems (PhyCS) to progress toward easy sleep and comfortable monitoring. In this paper, an EOG-based sleep scoring system is proposed. EOG signals are also coupling some of sleep characteristics of EEG signals. Compared to PSG or EEG recordings, EOG has the advantage of easy placement, and can be operated by the user individually at home. The proposed method was found to be more than 83% accurate when compared with the manual scorings applied to sixteen subjects. In addition to sleep-quality evaluation, the proposed system encompasses adaptive brightness control of light according to online monitoring of the users sleep stages. The experiments show that the EOG-based sleep scoring system is a practicable solution for homecare and sleep monitoring due to the advantages of comfortable recording and accurate sleep staging.Item type:Item, Atomic-scale epitaxial aluminum film on GaAs substrate(2017-07-01) ;Fan, Yen-Ting ;Lo, Ming-Cheng ;Wu, Chu-Chun ;Chen, Peng-YuWu, Jenq-ShinnAtomic-scale metal films exhibit intriguing size-dependent film stability, electrical conductivity, superconductivity, and chemical reactivity. With advancing methods for preparing ultra-thin and atomically smooth metal films, clear evidences of the quantum size effect have been experimentally collected in the past two decades. However, with the problems of small-area fabrication, film oxidation in air, and highly-sensitive interfaces between the metal, substrate, and capping layer, the uses of the quantized metallic films for further ex-situ investigations and applications have been seriously limited. To this end, we develop a large-area fabrication method for continuous atomic-scale aluminum film. The self-limited oxidation of aluminum protects and quantizes the metallic film and enables ex-situ characterizations and device processing in air. Structure analysis and electrical measurements on the prepared films imply the quantum size effect in the atomic-scale aluminum film. Our work opens the way for further physics studies and device applications using the quantized electronic states in metals. This study describes the design and evaluation of an electrooculogram (EOG)-based system for an automatic sleep monitoring. Compared with polysomnogram or electroencephalogram recordings, EOG has the advantage of easy placement and can be operated by the users themselves. We also design an intelligent eye mask that is user friendly for measuring sleep stage and quality. Two user experiments were carried out to demonstrate that the proposed system produces valid measurements of sleep stage and sleep quality and has good usability and reliability while not disturbing sleep significantly. These findings suggest that our system can also be applied to long-term sleep monitoring or sleep environment control to improve the user\'s sleep quality and make sleep more comfortable.Item type:Item, Gold Bowtie-Shaped Dimer Arrays in a Stretchable Substrate with Tunable LSPR(2018-12-01) ;Lu, Tsan-Wen ;Chen, Peng-Yu ;Lee, Po-Tsung ;光電工程學系Department of PhotonicsWe proposed and demonstrated a gold bowtie-shaped dimer array semi-buried in a deformable polymer substrate. The wavelength tunability of coupled bonding localized surface plasmon resonance modes with different polarizations was confirmed by stretching simulations and experiments. The tuning operations were reconfigurable and reliable under applied elongations of up to 50%.Item type:Item, Growth of atomic-scale aluminum film on GaAs substrate(2016) ;Lo, Ming-Cheng ;Fan, Yen-Ting ;Wu, Chu-Chun ;Chen, Peng-YuLin, Sheng-DiWe present the method for large-area growth of single-crystalline Al films in atomic scale on GaAs substrate by using molecular beam epitaxy. The grown Al film of thickness down to 5 nm exhibits smooth surface morphology, a clear and single X-ray diffraction peak in. theta-2 theta scan, and nearly transparent optical response. This work open a window for ex-situ studying quantum size effect in metal film.Item type:Item, High-operation-temperature Aluminum-based SPP Nanolasers(2016) ;Chou, Yu-Hsun ;Hong, Kuo-Bin ;Chou, Bo-Tsun ;Wu, Yen-MoShih, Jheng-HongMetal-insulator-semiconductor structures has widely adopted in plasmonics lasers. However, we found that the insulator is not necessary if permittivity combination of laser structures is properly designed. Single-mode laser operation was demonstrate in devices without artificial insulator layers. Moreover, the operation temperature can achieve to 353 K.Item type:Item, High-Operation-Temperature Plasmonic Nanolasers on Single-Crystalline Aluminum(2016-05) ;Chou, Yu-Hsun ;Wu, Yen-Mo ;Hong, Kuo-Bin ;Chou, Bo-TsunShih, Jheng-HongThe recent development of plasmonics has overcome the optical diffraction limit and fostered the development of several important components including nanolasers, low-operation-power modulators, and high-speed detectors. In particular, the advent of surface-plasmon-polariton (SPP) nanolasers has enabled the development of coherent emitters approaching the nanoscale. SPP nanolasers widely adopted metal insulator semiconductor structures because the presence of an insulator can prevent large metal loss. However, the insulator is not necessary if permittivity combination of laser structures is properly designed. Here, we experimentally demonstrate a SPP nanolaser with a ZnO nanowire on the as-grown single-crystalline aluminum. The average lasing threshold of this simple structure is 20 MW/cm(2), which is four-times lower than that of structures with additional insulator layers. Furthermore, single-mode laser operation can be sustained at temperatures up to 353 K. Our study represents a major step toward the practical realization of SPP nanolasers.Item type:Item, Nano-scale oxide layer prepared by plasma oxidation on single-crystalline aluminum film(2016) ;Chen, Peng-Yu ;Wu, Chu-Chun ;Fan, Yan-Ting ;Lin, Sheng-Di電子工程學系及電子研究所The plasma oxidation on single crystalline Al thin film grown by molecular beam epitaxy is presented. The dependence of oxidation rates on the N2O flux, the substrate temperature, the RF power, and the chamber pressure is studied with auger electron spectroscopy and transmission electron microscope. Our work provides a simple way to prepare a smooth nano-scale Al(2)O(3 f)ilm on aluminum, which is a key step to fabricate ultraviolet plasmonic nanolasers.Item type:Item, Real-Time Auto Stylized Sand Art Drawing(2013-01-01) ;Chen, Peng-Yu ;Wong, Sai-Keung ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceWe propose a new method for auto stylized sand art drawing. Our system is built on top of our sand drawing system which is mixed with a particle system and a height map. An image is input and the patterns of the image is analyzed. The contours of the image are computed and they are converted into strokes. In sand art drawing, artists can use multiple fingers to draw the strokes which are symmetric or parallel at the same time. Our system detects such strokes and groups them according to geometric rules. After analyzing the image and collecting a set of strokes, we enter the drawing stage. In the drawing stage, our system automatically performs sand spilling, drawing strokes, leaking, erosion, pinch spilling and pinch erosion.
