Item type:Item, 3D structural construction of GaN-based light emitting diode by confocal micro-Raman spectroscopy(2016-01-01) ;Li, Heng ;Chang, Chiao-Yun ;Cheng, Hui-Yu ;Chen, Wei-LiangHuang, Yi-HsinThe key issue for light emission strength of GaN-based LEDs is the high defect density and strain in MQWs causing the electric polarization fields. In this work, we construct 3D confocal microspectroscopy to clarify strain distribution and the relationship between photoluminescence (PL) intensity and pattern sapphire substrate (PSS). From 3D construction of E-2(high) Raman and PL mapping, the dislocation in MQW can be traced to the cone tip of PSS and the difference in E-2(high) Raman mapping between substrate and surface is also measured. The ability to measure strain change in 3D structure nondestructively can be applied to explore many structural problems of GaN-based optoelectronic devices.Item type:Item, An Improved Differential Evolution Algorithm with Priority Calculation for Unit Commitment Problem(2014-01-01) ;Yen, Shi-Jim ;Chen, Wei-Liang ;Chen, Jr-Chang ;Hsu, Shun-ChinWu, I-ChenUnit Commitment Problem (UCP) is a high-dimensional, discrete and non-linear optimization problem which is complicated so that it is difficult to find the optimal solution. This paper proposes a new method, called improved priority differential evolution (IPDE), based on differential evolution algorithm and priority calculation to solve UCP. We increased the speed of convergence and the accuracy of solution by means of adjusting individual, using penalty function and calculating priority. Compared with other algorithms, IPDE obtains better feasible solutions in different complexity.Item type:Item, Association between Gastroenterological Malignancy and Diabetes Mellitus and Anti-Diabetic Therapy: A Nationwide, Population-Based Cohort Study(2015-05-15) ;Lin, Chien-Ming ;Huang, Hui-Ling ;Chu, Fang-Ying ;Fan, Hueng-ChuenChen, Hung-AnBackground The relationship between diabetes mellitus (DM) and cancer incidence has been evaluated in limited kinds of cancer. The effect of anti-diabetic therapy (ADT) on carcinogenesis among diabetic patients is also unclear. Materials and Methods Using population-based representative insurance claims data in Taiwan, 36,270 DM patients and 145,080 comparison subjects without DM were identified from claims from 2005 to 2010. The association between the top ten leading causes of cancer-related death in Taiwan and DM was evaluated. Whether ADT altered the risk of developing cancer was also investigated. Results Incidence of cancer at any site was significantly higher in patients with DM than in those without (p<0.001). The risk of carcinogenesis imparted by DM was greatest in gastroenterological malignancies (liver, pancreas, and colorectal cancer) as well as lung, breast and oral cancer (p<0.001). Among the oral types of ADT, metformin decreased the risk of lung and liver cancer, but had less effect on reducing the risk of colorectal cancer. alpha-glucosidase inhibitor decreased the risk of developing liver, colorectal, and breast cancer. Apart from intermediateacting insulin, rapid-acting, long-acting, and combination insulin treatment significantly reduced the overall cancer risk among all DM patients. In subgroup analysis, long-acting insulin treatment significantly decreased the risk of lung, liver, and colorectal cancer. Conclusion Our results supported the notion that pre-existing DM increases the incidence of gastroenterological cancer. ADT, especially metformin, alpha-glucosidase inhibitor, and long-acting insulin treatment, may protect patients with DM against these malignancies. It is crucial that oncologists should closely collaborate with endocrinologists to provide an optimal cancerspecific therapy and diabetic treatment to patients simultaneously with cancer and DM.Item type:Item, Contact Characteristics of Recess Action Worm Gear Drives With Double-Depth Teeth(2011-11-01) ;Chen, Wei-Liang ;Tsay, Chung-Biau ;機械工程學系Department of Mechanical EngineeringBased on the previously developed mathematical model of a series of recess action (RA) worm gear drive (i.e., semi RA, full RA, and standard proportional tooth types) with double-depth teeth, the tooth contact analysis (TCA) technique is utilized to investigate the kinematic error (KE), contact ratio (CR), average contact ratio (ACR), instantaneous contact teeth (ICT) under different assembly conditions. Besides, the bearing contact and contact ellipse are studied by applying the surface topology method. Three numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the influence of the assembly errors and design parameters of the RA worm gear drive on the KE, CR, ACR, ICT, and contact patterns. By taking the depth compression effect due to refraction index mismatch into account, the axial profiles of Raman peak intensities from the GaN capping layer toward the sapphire substrate can correctly match the LED structural dimension and allow the identification of unique Raman feature originated from the 0.3 mu m thick active layer of the studied LED. The strain variation in different sample depths can also be quantified by measuring the Raman shift of GaN A(1)(LO) and E-2(high) phonon peaks. The capability of identifying the phonon structure of buried LED active layer and depth-resolving the strain distribution of LED structure makes this technique a potential optical and remote tool for in operando investigation of the electronic and structural properties of nitride-based LEDs. The association between moderate alcohol consumption (MAC) and hearing impairment has been addressed in several studies with inconsistent results. The intent of our study is to clarify the correlation between MAC and the hearing threshold and further investigate the interplay between MAC and the hearing threshold categorized by gender. The study included 4,075 participants aged 20-69 years from the 1999-2004 data of National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). The associations among MAC, gender differences, and high-frequency and low-frequency hearing thresholds were analyzed. We found that current female drinkers with MAC tended to have lower hearing thresholds. There is a significant protective effect of MAC on hearing threshold shifts in the US adult population, especially in females. Our research was the first study to further indicate that there is a gender difference in the association between MAC and hearing impairment. In accordance with our results, if people drink, they should consume moderate rather than higher amounts, especially in women, which may result in a reduced risk of hearing loss.Item type:Item, Giant colloidal silver crystals for low-loss linear and nonlinear plasmonics(2015-07-01) ;Wang, Chun-Yuan ;Chen, Hung-Ying ;Sun, Liuyang ;Chen, Wei-LiangChang, Yu-MingThe development of ultrasmooth, macroscopic-sized silver (Ag) crystals exhibiting reduced losses is critical to fully characterize the ultimate performance of Ag as a plasmonic material, and to enable cascaded and integrated plasmonic devices. Here we demonstrate the growth of single-crystal Ag plates with millimetre lateral sizes for linear and nonlinear plasmonic applications. Using these Ag crystals, surface plasmon polariton propagation lengths beyond 100 mm in the red wavelength region are measured. These lengths exceed the predicted values using the widely cited Johnson and Christy data. Furthermore, they allow the fabrication of highly reproducible plasmonic nanostructures by focused ion beam milling. We have designed and fabricated double-resonant nanogroove arrays using these crystals for spatially uniform and spectrally tunable second-harmonic generation. In conventional 'hot-spot'-based nonlinear processes such as surface-enhanced Raman scattering and second-harmonic generation, strong enhancement can only occur in random, localized regions. In contrast, our approach enables uniform nonlinear signal generation over a large area.Item type:Item, Intrinsic Carrier Transport of Phase-Pure Homologous 2D Organolead Halide Hybrid Perovskite Single Crystals(2018-12-27) ;Li, Min-Ken ;Chen, Tzu-Pei ;Lin, Yen-Fu ;Raghavan, Chinnambedu MurugesanChen, Wei-LiangThis work reveals the intrinsic carrier transport behavior of 2D organolead halide perovskites based on phase-pure homologous (n = 1, 2, and 3) Ruddelsden-Popper perovskite (RPP) (BA)(2)(MA)(n-1)PbnI3n+1 single crystals. The 2D perovskite field effect transistors with high-quality exfoliated 2D perovskite bulk crystals are fabricated, and characteristic output and transfer curves are measured from individual single-crystal flakes with various n values under different temperatures. Unipolar n-type transport dominated the electrical properties of all these 2D RPP single crystals. The transport behavior of the 2D organolead halide hybrid perovskites exhibits a strong dependence on the n value and the mobility substantially increases as the ratio of the number of inorganic perovskite slabs per organic spacer increases. By extracting the effect of contact resistances, the corrected mobility values for n = 1, 2, and 3 are 2 x 10(-3), 8.3 x 10(-2), and 1.25 cm(2) V-1 s(-1) at 77 K, respectively. Furthermore, by combining temperature-dependent electrical transport and optical measurements, it is found that the origin of the carrier mobility dependence on the phase transition for 2D organolead halide perovskites is very different from that of their 3D counterparts. Our findings offer insight into fundamental carrier transport behavior of 2D organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites based on phase-pure homologous single crystals.Item type:Item, Mathematical model and tooth surfaces of recess action worm gears with double-depth teeth(2011-12-01) ;Chen, Wei-Liang ;Tsay, Chung-Biau ;機械工程學系Department of Mechanical EngineeringIn this study, the surface equations of recess action (RA) worm gears with double-depth teeth, generated by a ZN worm-type hob cutter, are proposed. Based on the generation mechanism and the theory of gearing, a mathematical model of a series of worm gears, semi RA, full RA and standard proportional tooth types, with double-depth teeth is developed as the function of design parameters of the ZN worm-type hob cutter. According to the derived tooth surface equations, computer graphs of a series of worm gears with double-depth teeth are plotted. Tooth surface variations of the generated RA worm gears due to the varying pitch line, pressure angle and tooth height of the hob cutter are also investigated. (C) 2011 Elsevier Ltd. These man-made surfaces can produce a range of unique optical properties unattainable with natural materials. In this review, we focus on the emerging applications of metasurfaces with precisely engineered plasmonic properties for nonlinear optics and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). In practice, these applications are quite susceptible to material losses and structural imperfections, such as variations in size, shape, periodicity of meta-atoms, and their material states (crystallinity, impurity, and oxidation, etc.). In these aspects, conventional top-down lithographic techniques are facing major challenges due to inherent limitations in intrinsic material properties and material quality introduced during growth, synthesis, and fabrication processes, as well as achievable lithographic resolution. Moreover, they are prohibitively expensive and time-consuming for fabrication over large areas. Here, we show that colloidal silver crystals (millimeter-sized single-crystalline plates and thiolate-capped nanoparticles) synthesized by solution-based chemical methods are excellent material platforms for the fabrication of high-quality plasmonic metasurfaces. In, particular, both top-down (focused ion-beam milling) and bottom-up (centimeter-scale self-assembly) techniques can be exploited to generate uniform and precisely engineered colloidal metasurfaces for broadband tunable (across the full visible range) second-harmonic generation and quantitative SERS at the single-molecule level.Item type:Item, Reversed ophthalmic artery flow following ischemic stroke: a possible predictor of outcomes following carotid artery stenting(2019-01-01) ;Lin, Chih-Ming ;Liu, Chi-Kuang ;Chang, Yu-Jun ;Chen, Wei-LiangLu, Henry Horng-ShingStroke is the leading cause of death worldwide and stenosis of the carotid artery accounts for more than half of all cases. Carotid duplex is an effective non-invasive ultrasound test which identifies stroke patients with moderate to severe carotid stenosis who are candidates for preventative intervention to reduce the risk of recurrence. In patients with moderate to severe carotid stenosis, reversed ophthalmic artery flow (ROAF) is often observed at the time of the carotid duplex scan. In this study, we investigated whether ROAF, denoting exhaustion of cerebral collateral flow in ischemic stroke patients affected mid-term functional outcomes following carotid artery stenting (CAS) procedures. In total, 144 consecutive patients with a first episode of ischemic stroke and subsequent CAS procedure conducted between January 2010 and November 2014 at Changhua Christian Hospital, Taiwan were included. Clinical data were obtained by medical record review. Disability was assessed at two time points by utilising the Barthel Index (BI) and modified Rankin Scale (mRS) before CAS and 12 months post-CAS. Among 85 patients presenting without ROAF, 48/85 (56.4%) had improved mRS scores following stenting. The condition remained unchanged (stationary) in 36/85 (43.3%) patients after stenting and one patient exhibited deteriorated condition 1/85(1.1%). In contrast, among the 59 patients presenting with ROAF, 24/59 (40.6%) had improved mRS score following stenting. The condition remained unchanged (stationary) in the remaining 35/59 (59.3%) patients after stenting, and no patient exhibited deteriorated condition 0/ 59 (0 %). This study provides evidence that CAS is a valid and effective treatment option regardless of whether patients exhibited ROAF or not. Patients without ROAF were significantly more likely to have improved mid-term functional outcomes compared to those with ROAF. In the group without ROAF admission, CRP may play a role in predicting subsequent functional outcomes, whereas admission Barthel Index was a predictor of outcome in the ROAF group.Item type:Item, Three dimensional characterization of GaN-based light emitting diode grown on patterned sapphire substrate by confocal Raman and photoluminescence spectromicroscopy(2017-03-30) ;Li, Heng ;Cheng, Hui-Yu ;Chen, Wei-Liang ;Huang, Yi-HsinLi, Chi-KangWe performed depth-resolved PL and Raman spectral mappings of a GaN-based LED structure grown on a patterned sapphire substrate (PSS). Our results showed that the Raman mapping in the PSS-GaN heterointerface and the PL mapping in the InxGa1-xN/GaN MQWs active layer are spatially correlated. Based on the 3D construction of E2(high) Raman peak intensity and frequency shift, V-shaped pits in the MQWs can be traced down to the dislocations originated in the cone tip area of PSS. Detail analysis of the PL peak distribution further revealed that the indium composition in the MQWs is related to the residual strain propagating from the PSS-GaN heterointerface toward the LED surface. Numerical simulation based on the indium composition distribution also led to a radiative recombination rate distribution that shows agreement with the experimental PL intensity distribution in the InxGa1-xN/GaN MQWs active layer.Item type:Item, Three dimensional compressive strain and its effect on optical properties of GaN-based light emitting diode grown on patterned sapphire substrate by confocal spectromicroscopy(2017-01-01) ;Li, Heng ;Cheng, Hui-Yu ;Chen, Wei-Liang ;Huang, Yi-HsinLi, Chi-KangWe performed depth-resolved spectral mappings of GaN-based LED and results showed that the strain distribution propagating from PSS-GaN heterointerface toward surface and the PL intensity are spatially correlated. Large Schottky barriers lead to the formation of high resistive contacts, and methods adopted to control the barriers often alter the intrinsic properties of the SC. This work aims at addressing both issues in fully encapsulated ML WSe2 FETs using bilayer hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) as a tunnel barrier at the FC/SC interface. We investigate the electrical transport in ML WSe2 FETs with the current-in-plane geometry that yields hole mobilities of similar to 38.3 cm(2) V-1 s(-1) at 240 K and on/off ratios of the order of 10(7), limited by the contact regions. We have achieved an ultralow effective Schottky barrier (similar to 5.34 meV) with an encapsulated tunneling device as opposed to a nonencapsulated device in which the barrier heights are considerably higher. These observations provide an insight into the electrical behavior of the FC/h-BN/SC/h-BN heterostructures, and such control over the barrier heights opens up the possibilities for WSe2-based spintronic devices.
