Both current and voltage sensors with the design of a 50-turn inductive coil and two capacitive electrodes, respectively, in an area of 1.3 x 1 cm(2) are fabricated on a 100-mu m-thick flexible polyethylene terephthalate substrate as a sensor tag. The tag exhibits a sensitivity of 271.6 mV/A and 0.38 mV/V via active low-pass filter circuits for the current and voltage detection. A compensation circuit inputted with the signals of the voltage sensor is applied for the interference reduction of the current sensor electrically coupled with the power cord so that the current sensor can achieve over a 40-dB signal-to-noise ratio for measuring the loaded current of 1 A, 60 Hz on the power line.Item type:Item, Excellent enhancement of corrosion properties of Fe-9Al-30Mn-1.8C alloy in 3.5% NaCl and 10% HCl aqueous solutions using gas nitriding treatment(2015-06-05) ;Chen, Yung-Chang ;Lin, Chih-Lung ;Chao, Chuen-Guang ;Liu, Tzeng-Feng材料科學與工程學系The as-quenched Fe-9.0Al-30Mn-1.8C (in wt.%) alloy gas nitrided at 550 degrees C for 4 h show excellent corrosion resistance investigated in 3.5% NaCl and 10% HCl solutions. Owing to the high corrosion resistance components, the gas-nitrided layer consists mainly of AlN with a slight amount of Fe3N and Fe4N identified by grazing incidence X-ray diffraction technique. Therefore, the pitting potential and corrosion potential of the nitrided sample are + 1860 mV and + 30 mV, respectively. Surprisingly, it is worthy to be pointed out that the nitrided and then tensile-tested alloy reveals very shallow in fracture depth and the excellent lattice coherence is shown between the nitrided layer and the substrate. Moreover, due to the extremely high nitrogen concentration (about 17-18 wt.%) at stretched surface, the corrosion resistance of present gas-nitrided and then tensile-tested alloy is superior to those optimally gas-nitrided or plasma-nitrided high-strength alloy steels, as well as martensitic stainless steels. The nitrided and then stretched alloy still retains a satisfactory corrosion resistance (E-pit = + 890 mV; E-corr = + 10 mV). Furthermore, only nanoscale-size pits were observed on the corroded surface after being immersed in 10% HCl for 24 h. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. The Al nanowires were made with the average diameter of 60 nm and length of several micrometers. The difference between mold dimension and nanowires was caused by removing the outer oxide shell of Al nanowires. XRD, EDS and SAED results showed that the Al crystalline nanowires were fabricated exactly. The proposed concept successfully established a simple and low-cost method to have high-temperature and soft nano-materials under the non-vacuum surroundings. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. Experimental results show that the inductive coil tag can exhibit a larger induced voltage by the introduction of the magnetic C-clamp stripes that can guide and concentrate the magnetic flux in the center area of the inductive coil. For a 30-turns inductive coil, the incorporation of a 2 mu m thick Ni and NiFe C-clamp stripes with 14.5 mm in length and similar to 20 mu m in height onto the coil can provide 15.5% and 37.2% sensitivity enhancement, respectively, for detecting 1A, 60Hz electric current flow in a SPT-2 16AWG power line.Item type:Item, The Methodology in the Accuracy Improvement of the Flexible Current Sensing Coil Tag for Household Two-Wire Power Lines(2015-10-01) ;Lin, Chen-Hsuan ;Cheng, Yu-Ting ;Chen, Yung-Chang ;Fu, Yu-MinHsu, Wei-HungThe paper presents the methodology including the deployment of a structure comprising of C-clamp magnetic stripes and a self-calibration scheme using a four-coil design to resolve the issues of the interference and misplacement problems existing in the flexible nonintrusive current sensor tag for the current detection of household two-wire power lines. Experimental results show that the stripe structure can effectively screen out the magnetic flux originating from the nearby power line for the reduction of sensing error caused by the electromagnetic field interference and the calibration scheme containing the correction of horizontal misplacement and the analysis of power cable thickness via the four-coil design can provide the information of sensor location for accurate current sensing. Less than 4% of sensing error indicates that the proposed methodology can indeed facilitate the flexible current sensor tag for practical use.Item type:Item, Three-Dimensional Reconstruction of Brain-wide Wiring Networks in Drosophila at Single-Cell Resolution(2011-01-11) ;Chiang, Ann-Shyn ;Lin, Chih-Yung ;Chuang, Chao-Chun ;Chang, Hsiu-MingHsieh, Chang-HuainBackground: Animal behavior is governed by the activity of interconnected brain circuits. Comprehensive brain wiring maps are thus needed in order to formulate hypotheses about information flow and also to guide genetic manipulations aimed at understanding how genes and circuits orchestrate complex behaviors. Results: To assemble this map, we deconstructed the adult Drosophila brain into approximately 16,000. single neurons and reconstructed them into a common standardized framework to produce a virtual fly brain. We have constructed a mesoscopic map and found that it consists of 41 local processing units (LPUs), six hubs, and 58 tracts covering the whole Drosophila brain. Despite individual local variation, the architecture of the Drosophila brain shows invariance for both the aggregation of local neurons (LNs) within specific LPUs and for the connectivity of projection neurons (PNs) between the same set of LPUs. An open-access image database, named FlyCircuit, has been constructed for online data archiving, mining, analysis, and three-dimensional visualization of all single neurons, brain-wide LPUs, their wiring diagrams, and neural tracts. Conclusion: We found that the Drosophila brain is assembled from families of multiple LPUs and their interconnections. This provides an essential first step in the analysis of information processing within and between neurons in a complete brain.
