Item type:Item, A High Efficiency Hardware Design for Real-Time Continuous Wave Diffuse Optical Tomography(2013) ;Wu, Shih-Yang ;Cheng, Ching-Ju ;Fang, Wai-Chi ;Lin, FrankwellYu, FelixDiffuse Optical Tomography (DOT) is a novel medical image technology with non-invasive method in the recent years. However, it has not been popular in clinical practice. In this work, a custom signal processing engine for Continuous Wave (CW) DOT is proposed, for the forward and inverse problem in the calculating procedure. To achieve the goals of small hardware size, low power consumption, and popularity, the design applied the Very-large-scale integration (VLSI) concept. In addition, the design is also implemented onto System on a chip (SoC) with a front-end sensor control, wireless communication, and a user friendly interface as a prototype of a health care monitor system. Lastly, we demonstrate a static phantom experiment to verify the functionality of the whole proposed system.Item type:Item, A Novel Near-Infrared Array Based Arterial Pulse Wave Measurement Method(2013) ;Huang, Wei-Chin ;Hou, Hsiang-Wen ;Cheng, Ching-Ju ;Wu, Shih-YangChen, Tien-HoRecently there have been many studies regarding pulse wave velocity (PWV) produced by near-infrared light. However, these studies have used multiple probes with the synchronization problem. This paper proposed a new detecting method to measure PWV on a radial artery with multiple channels in one front-end sensor array. The system was implemented on a MSP430F169 platform and the PWV result was transmitted by RS232 and displayed on the computer screen after being processed. Finally, the PWV result was measured to validate the functionality of the system.Item type:Item, A Portable 2-D Oximeter Image System Design for Breast Foreign Tissue Detection(2012) ;Cheng, Ching-Ju ;Wu, Shih-Yang ;Kang, Shih ;Chen, Tien-HoFang, Wai-ChiMany studies of two dimensional (2D) oxygen saturation distribution reconstruction have recently been conducted. However, these studies use powerful computers or large mainframes which are impractical for home health care systems. This paper proposes a 2D, portable, low-cost, real-time oxygen saturation distribution reconstruction system to detect breast cancer, making early detection possible. The system is implemented on FPGA with front-end sensors and display devices. The functionality of the system is verified using a phantom which presents breast tissue.Item type:Item, A SoC Design for Portable 2-Dimension Oximeter Image System(2012) ;Cheng, Ching-Ju ;Wu, Shih-Yang ;Kang, Shih ;Chen, Tien-HoFang, Wai-ChiIn recent years, many studies of 2-D oxygen saturation distribution reconstruction have provided easy access to human brain activity regions. However, only a few research focus on the home health care system using this technique. In this paper, we proposed a portable, low cost and real-time distribution reconstruction system of oxygen saturation in 2-D to make diagnosis at home possible. The system has been implemented in hardware as an oxygen saturation processor and verified on Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). Furthermore, we also introduce an image post processing unit to enhance the reconstruction result. Finally, we show that our system can recognize the variation of oxygen saturation region with high precision in detection tissue.Item type:Item, A Wireless Near-Infrared Imaging System Design for Breast Tumor Detection(2014-01-01) ;Cheng, Ching-Ju ;Wu, Shih-Yang ;Huang, Wei-Chin ;Hou, Hsiang-WenFang, Wai-ChiIn recent years, many near-infrared systems are used to detect breast tumor. However, the large instrument size and unfriendly interface make them hard to be accessed by users. In this paper, we proposed a portable, wireless and user friendly breast imaging system for breast tumor early detection. The system is implemented on self-designed platform combined with front-end sensors, DOT chip by TSMC 90nm technology, and commercial display devices. Furthermore, we confirm the functionality of the system by phantom testing.Item type:Item, DLWV2: a Deep Learning-based Wearable Vision-system with Vibrotactile-feedback for Visually Impaired People to Reach Objects(2018-01-01) ;Shih, Meng-Li ;Chen, Yi-Chun ;Tung, Chia-Yu ;Sun, ChengCheng, Ching-JuWe develop a Deep Learning-based Wearable Vision-system with Vibrotactile-feedback (DLWV2) to guide Blind and Visually Impaired (BVI) people to reach objects. The system achieves high accuracy in object detection and tracking in 3-D using an extended deep learning-based 2.5D detector and a 3-D object tracker with the ability to track 3-D object locations even outside the camera field-of-view. We train our detector with a large number of images with 2.5D object ground-truth (i.e., 2-D object bounding boxes and distance from the camera to objects). A novel combination of HTC Vive Tracker with our system enables us to automatically obtain the ground-truth labels for training while requiring very little human effort to set up the system. Moreover, our system processes frames in real-time through a client-server computing platform such that BVI people can receive realtime vibrotactile guidance. We conduct a thorough user study on 12 BVI people in new environments with object instances which are unseen during training. Our system outperforms the non-assistive guiding strategy with statistic significance in both time and the number of contacting irrelevant objects. Finally, the interview with BVI users confirms that our system with distance-based vibrotactile feedback is mostly preferred, especially for objects requiring gentle manipulation such as a bottle with water inside.Item type:Item, Live Demonstration: An FPGA-Based Continuous Wave Diffuse Optical Tomography System(2012) ;Kang, Shih ;Wu, Shih-Yang ;Cheng, Ching-Ju ;Fang, Wai-ChiKao, Wen-ChungThis work provides an FPGA-based continuous wave diffuse optical tomography (CW-DOT) system for tumor detection and oxygen concentration measurement. According to user's parameter setting, the proposed system can solve image reconstruction of absorption coefficient at the wavelengths of 735nm and 890nm in analytes, and oxygen concentration through the proposed image reconstruction engine in real-time. Meanwhile, the reconstruction image will be wirelessly transmitted to a remote platform for image display. Also, the whole system comprises front-end circuit for analog data acquiring, digital signal processing and an image display platform as a prototype of a healthcare monitory system.Item type:Item, Portable SoC Design for CW Diffusion Optical Tomography(2012) ;Kang, Shih ;Wu, Shih-Yang ;Cheng, Ching-Ju ;Fang, Wai-Chi電子工程學系及電子研究所In this paper, a digital signal processing system for image reconstruction of continuous wave diffusion optical tomography (CW-DOT) is proposed. Optical tomography systems employing near-infrared light can be used to detect oxygen concentration and impurities such as breast cancer in the human body. The proposed CW-DOT architecture is a truly appropriate system for further enhancing the possibility of miniaturization. The system is designed with the goal of high accuracy, low power and low cost for portable biomedical system on a chip (SoC) applications. Finally, the system has been verified on an SoC development platform, demonstrating fast and accurate reconstruction of two-dimensional (2D) DOT images.
