Item type:Item, A component-based, reconfigurable mobile agent system for context-aware computing(2002) ;Chiao, HT ;Cheng, MC ;Chang, YS ;Yuan, SM資訊工程學系In the near future, people can use various kinds of portable terminal devices, such as PDAs or smart phones, to access, the information on Internet at any time, in any place, for supporting their daily life. Personal mobile agents can help those people to search, to filter, to analyze, or to translate the large amount of Internet information. Since the context of a user may vary frequently, the way a personal mobile agent process the Internet information must adapt to the context change. However, we think that the current mainstream mobile agent platforms, such as the IBM Aglet and the IKV++ Grasshopper, are not good enough for developing context-aware applications. Hence, we propose a Component-based, Reconfigurable Mobile Agent (CRMA) system, which is designed for context-aware computing. It offers downloadable user-interface modules on terminal devices for application to adapt the characteristics of various terminal devices. In addition, on agent side, CRMA provides a reconfigurable agent-programming framework, which uses component-based pipelines to perform context-aware data-processing operations. This not only simplifies the programming task for dynamically reconfiguring an agent's behavior to adapt the context change, but also improves the reusability of agent software. In the end of this paper, we will propose a context-aware meta-search service to demonstrate how to use CRMA to develop a context-aware application.Item type:Item, A unified, adjustable, and extractable biological data mining-broker(2003) ;Ho, MH ;Chang, YS ;Cheng, MC ;Li, KLYuan, SMThe document formats of biological data sources typically are more versatile and more complicated than the traditional data sources. It is hard to efficiently retrieve useful information from biological data sources by traditional information retrieval technologies. In this paper, we propose a unified, adjustable, and extractable Biological Data Mining-Broker mechanism. Based on XML methodology, the mechanism provides a federated forum model to overcome the heterogeneities of both form and meaning from those different diverse biological data sources. Furthermore, the mechanism also utilizes the feedback-based direct raw and meaningful extracted cache technique to improve the efficiency and accuracy of the system. The experimental results show that our proposed system has good performance, and it is a good choice for biological data mining process with multiple heterogeneous data sources, different mining applications, and knowledge analysts. It is highly useful for target discovery and bioinformatics research projects.Item type:Item, An adaptive mobile application development framework(2005) ;Cheng, MC ;Yuan, SM ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceAlthough wireless networks and mobile devices become popular these days, the diversity of mobile devices and unsteadiness of wireless networks still cause software development much trouble. Thus, when developing a mobile application, developers are forced to expose to these problems and to be familiar with these technologies and therefore it will spend a lot of time to write a mobile application. Furthermore, a mobile application often needs to be ported to different platform (for example from Java to .NET) which is also burdensome. In order to overcome these problems, the author proposes an adaptive framework to help developers build mobile application effortlessly and rapidly. The mobile application developed on this framework can run in different devices and operating system, so developers does not need to worry about portability. As a result, a mobile application developed on this framework can enjoy the benefit of "write once, run everywhere, and access any services.".Item type:Item, CFMS - A collaborative file management system on WWW(2000) ;Sheu, RK ;Cheng, MC ;Chang, YS ;Yuan, SMTsai, JThe increasing complexity and geographical separation of design data, tools and teams have demanded for a collaborative and distributed management environment. In this paper we present a practical system, the CFMS, which is designed to manage collaborative files on WWW. Wherever remote developers are, they can navigate the evolutions and relationships between target files, check in and check out them conveniently on web browsers using CFMS. The capabilities of CFMS include the two-level navigation mechanism for version selection, the relationship model that conceptually manages the relationships between physical files as well as the prefix-based naming scheme that can uniquely identify requested objects.Item type:Item, Effects of corrosion environments on the surface finishing of copper chemical mechanical polishing(1997-10-31) ;Wang, MT ;Tsai, MS ;Liu, C ;Tseng, WTChang, TCCopper chemical mechanical polishing (Cu-CMP) was investigated using slurries containing alumina abrasive and various types and concentrations of oxidizer, as well as benezotriazole (BTA) additive. We found that the corrosion rate of copper film decreases with increasing BTA concentration in 3 vol.% HNO3 solution, but the passivation effect of BTA saturates as the concentration reaches about 0.01 M. On the other hand, a small amount of H2O2 in H2O2/XJFW8099 slurry enhances the corrosion rate dramatically, while abundance of H2O2 in the slurry suppresses the corrosion reaction effectively. The polishing rate and its non-uniformity decrease with increasing volume ratio of H2O2 in H2O2/XJEW8099 slurry. A very smooth surface with a removal rate of 363.0 nm/min was obtained using the slurry of 1/1 ratio. Depletion of H2O2 in the slurry can result in more abrasive residuals as well as a rougher surface; the surface roughness increases from 0.3 to 9.9 nm as the H2O2/XJFW8099 ratio decreases from 1/1 to 1/4. Our results indicate that the corrosion rate, polishing rate and surface roughness of copper films are sensitively dependent on the type and concentration of oxidizer as well as the BTA additive. We discussed its architecture, protocols, and implementation issues. For achieving better performance, we revised the original design of the FJM. The details of the refinement were also described in this paper. Then, we compared the performance of the both versions of the FJM with the performance of other JMS implementations. After our carefully design and tuning, in most cases, the revised version of the FJM can offer the highest throughput among the well-known industrial or open source JMS implementations. Therefore, FJM can be used in many innovative or mission critical cluster applications, such as massively multiplayer virtual worlds or military simulator.Item type:Item, Isolation of magnetite nanoparticles by colloidal dispersant in aqueous solution(2006-01-01) ;Shauo, CN ;Chao, CG ;Cheng, MC ;材料科學與工程學系Department of Materials Science and EngineeringNanometer-scale magnetite particles were prepared in a dispersant system with a dispersant at a very low concentration. The mean sizes of the particles prepared under optimum conditions were determined using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) to be approximately 3.8 nm. X-ray diffraction and electron diffiraction pattern showed that the particles' phase was consistent with magnetite. The magnetic characteristics were studied using a vibration sample magnetometer (VSM). The dried samples exhibited approximately superparamagnetic behavior.Item type:Item, Prototyping an integrated information gathering system on CORBA(2004-07-01) ;Chang, YS ;Liang, KC ;Cheng, MC ;Yuan, SM資訊工程學系The sheer volume of information and variety of sources from which it may be retrieved on the Web make searching the sources a difficult task. Usually, meta-search engines can be used only to search Web pages or documents; other major sources such as data bases, library corpuses and the so-called Web data bases are not involved. Faced with these restrictions, an effective retrieval technology for a much wider range of sources becomes increasingly important. In our previous work, we proposed an Integrated Retrieval (IIR), which is based on Common Object Request Broker Architecture, to spare clients the trouble of complicated semantics when federating multiple sources. In this paper, we present an IIR-based prototype for integrated information gathering system. It offers a unified interface for querying heterogeneous interfaces or protocols of sources and uses SQL compatible query language for heterogeneous backend targets. We use it to link two general search engines (Yahoo and AltaVista), a science paper explorer (IEEE), and two library corpus explorers. We also perform preliminary measurements to assess the potential of the system. The results shown that the overhead spent on each source as the system queries them is within reason, that is, that using IIR to construct an integrated gathering system incurs low overhead.
