Item type:Item, A 80V Output Voltage Boost Converter with Low Voltage Ripple for Avalanche Photodiode(APD)(2011) ;Yang, Yao-Yi ;Hsieh, Chun-Yu ;Huang, Tzu-Chi ;Lee, Yu-HueiWang, Shih-WeiThe Avalanche Photodiodes (APDs) are widely used in a variety of optical application requiring high sensitivity, such as long-distance optical communication and optical distance measurement, because the APDs can detect the low level light. APDs accompanied with the Transimpedance Amplifier (TIA) are utilized on the receiver side in the communication system. The trend of integrating the active optical components faces the challenge of integrating different voltage levels. In general, the operation voltage of TIA is usually 1.8 V or 3.3 V. However, the APD requires a high reverse-biasing voltage of 40 V - 80 V. Therefore, a high conversation-ratio boost converter must be included to provide the high voltage to bias the APD. Besides, output voltage ripple must be minimized to decrease the influence on communication signals. Experimental results show the 80 V output voltage boosted from the input voltage of 2.5 V. The output voltage ripple is 2 mV under the condition of 1 mA load current.Item type:Item, A Flexible Inductive Coil Tag for Household Two-Wire Current Sensing Applications(2012-06-01) ;Chen, Yung-Chang ;Yu, Sung-Chu ;Cheng, Shih-Hsien ;Cheng, Yu-Ting電子工程學系及電子研究所This paper presents a flexible inductive coil tag for sensing the electric current in the two-wire power cords of household goods. Both current and voltage sensors with the design of a 50-turn inductive coil and two capacitive electrodes, respectively, in an area of 1.3 x 1 cm(2) are fabricated on a 100-mu m-thick flexible polyethylene terephthalate substrate as a sensor tag. The tag exhibits a sensitivity of 271.6 mV/A and 0.38 mV/V via active low-pass filter circuits for the current and voltage detection. A compensation circuit inputted with the signals of the voltage sensor is applied for the interference reduction of the current sensor electrically coupled with the power cord so that the current sensor can achieve over a 40-dB signal-to-noise ratio for measuring the loaded current of 1 A, 60 Hz on the power line.Item type:Item, A self-powered current monitoring module with ZigBee communication for industrial applications(2015-04-01) ;Cheng, Shih-Hsien ;Lin, Sheng-Fuu ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control EngineeringThis study presents a module integrated with ZigBee communication but without an external power supply and battery to monitor the current consumption of industrial machines. In the module, power is collected from the magnetic field around an electric current in a conductor that is connected to the machine. The collected power is then supplied to the current-measuring and ZigBee communication devices. The information provided by the module supports energy management systems and is the basis for the replacement of old equipment at the appropriate time, thus resulting in increasingly efficient energy usage. Experimental tests, including an energy-harvesting test, a full-function test, and a third party report, verify the performance of the proposed system. Test results show that full function is supported from 10 to 60A and that accuracy is better than 3%.Item type:Item, Current-Mode Synthetic Control (CSC) Technique for High Efficiency DC-DC Boost Converters Over a Wide Load Range(2011) ;Su, Yi-Ping ;Chen, Yi-Chun ;Huang, Han-Hsiang ;Lee, Yu-HueiYang, Yao-YiThe proposed current-mode synthetic control (CSC) technique in the design of boost converters can improve the transient response time and maintain high conversion efficiency over a wide load range. The CSC technique has high accuracy similar to the current-mode control and doesn't need the slope compensation for simplicity. Besides, the transient response is also improved due to the current-mode hysteresis control. The load-dependent switching frequency at light loads results in high power conversion efficiency. Experimental results show that the output voltage ripple can be kept smaller than 50mV over a wide load current range from 0mA to 400mA with power conversion efficiency higher than 90% at load current of 10mA.Item type:Item, Reduction of Equivalent Series Inductor Effect in Constant On-Time Control DC-DC Converter without ESR Compensation(2011) ;Lee, Yu-Huei ;Lai, Wang-Wei ;Pai, Wan-Yu ;Chen, Ke-HorngDu, Ming-JheThe proposed constant on-time control DC-DC converter removes the need of conventional equivalent series resistor (ESR) compensation and simultaneously aims to eliminate equivalent series inductor (ESL) effect of the output capacitor. Since the on-time period is set simply by input and output voltages, the switching frequency in continuous conduction mode (CCM) operation is relatively constant over a wide input voltage range. In addition, fast transient response and small transient dip voltage can be achieved. Simulation results show that the output ripple and the recovery time keep smaller than 5 mV and 10 mu s, respectively, when load current step is 500 mA and ESR is smaller than 5 m Omega.Item type:Item, Robust Switch-mode Charger with Bootstrap Detector (BSD) and Soft-start Embedded in Type III Compensation (SSEC) Technique(2012) ;Peng, Ruei-Hong ;Su, Yi-Ping ;Tsai, Tsu-Wei ;Chen, Ya-PingChen, Ke-HorngBootstrap detector (BSD) and soft-start embedded in Type III compensation (SSEC) are implemented in the switch-mode charger to achieve high efficiency and ensure robustness charging process. The proposed BSD monitors the bootstrap voltage to avoid low efficiency and serious burning problem in both synchronous and non-synchronous charging modes. On the other hand, the SSEC avoids inrush current in start-up procedure of charger system without any external components and auxiliary circuits to greatly minimize the chip and footprint areas. The proposed robust switch-mode charger with the BSD and the SSEC technique was simulated in 0.25 mu m CMOS process. The fast charge current in constant current stage varies from 600 mA to 10 A with a 1.6 MHz operating switching frequency.Item type:Item, Sensitivity Enhancement of the Flexible Inductive Coil Tag Using Magnetic C-Clamp Stripes for the Current Detection of Household Two-Wire Power Lines(2012) ;Chen, Yung-Chang ;Hsu, Wei-Hung ;Cheng, Shih-Hsien ;Cheng, Yu-Ting電子工程學系及電子研究所This paper presents a sensitivity enhancement scheme for the flexible inductive coil tag used for the current detection of household two-wire power lines. Experimental results show that the inductive coil tag can exhibit a larger induced voltage by the introduction of the magnetic C-clamp stripes that can guide and concentrate the magnetic flux in the center area of the inductive coil. For a 30-turns inductive coil, the incorporation of a 2 mu m thick Ni and NiFe C-clamp stripes with 14.5 mm in length and similar to 20 mu m in height onto the coil can provide 15.5% and 37.2% sensitivity enhancement, respectively, for detecting 1A, 60Hz electric current flow in a SPT-2 16AWG power line.Item type:Item, Single Controller Current Balance (SCCB) Technique for Voltage-Mode Multi-Phase Buck Converter(2011) ;Huang, Yu-Ping ;Su, Yi-Ping ;Lee, Yu-Huei ;Chu, Kuan-YuShih, Chun-Jena single controller current balance (SCCB) technique is proposed to achieve the time-multiplexing current balance in voltage-mode multi-phase DC-DC buck converter with only one modulation controller. Thus, the N-1 controllers can be removed when the SCCB technique is implemented in the monolithic N-phase DC-DC buck converters for largely decreasing the silicon area and power consumption. In addition, the time-multiplexing current balance scheme can further enhance the current sharing accuracy since the mismatches between different controllers does not exist. Simulated results show that the current difference between each phase can be decreased by over 80 % at both heavy load and light load conditions.
