Item type:Item, cIAP-2 Expression Increases in Elderly Patients with Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Head and Neck(2017-03-01) ;Chen, Chi-Long ;Chiang, Chun-Yi ;Liao, Kuang-Wen ;Ho, Shu-YiChang, Yi-FangBackground: Evidence indicates apoptosis deregulation is associated with aging. We correlated expression of cIAP-2, a member of the inhibitor of apoptosis protein family, with survival and age in patients with resected squamous cell carcinoma of head and neck (SCCHN). Methods: Immunohistochemical (IHC) staining for cIAP-2 and other markers were performed using tissue microarrays from 103 resected SCCHN patients. Expression was grouped according to IHC scores (0 -3) and statistical association with clinicalepathological factors was determined. Results: High expression of cIAP-2 was found to be increased in patients aged 60 or greater. High expression of cIAP-2 and an age >= 60 were significantly associated with worse survival in univariate analysis, but only an age >= 60, and not cIAP-2 expression, was prognostic in multivariate analysis. Conclusion: High expression of cIAP-2 was found more frequently in elderly SCCHN patients but was not independently associated with survival after adjusting other clinicalepathologic factors. In AAAPPD system, ethylene and lipase-phosphate-buffered-saline aerosol were used as precursors to polymerize ethylene and embed lipase simultaneously. The deposited lipase-PPE coatings were analyzed with FTIR, SEM, and surface profiler. The results show that increasing voltage from 3 to 4 kV and decreasing ceramic-dielectric thickness from 1 to 0.38 mm improved the coating adhesion and polymerization. Also, depositing a PPE layer with high energy prior to lipase-PPE coating enhanced adhesion. These improvements of the biomolecule-PPE coatings facilitate further bioapplications of this new biomolecule-embedding method.Item type:Item, Inactivation Effect of Colletotrichum Gloeosporioides by Long-Lived Chemical Species Using Atmospheric-Pressure Corona Plasma-Activated Water(2019-02-01) ;Wu, Mu-Chien ;Liu, Chih-Tung ;Chiang, Chun-Yi ;Lin, Yi-JiaLin, Ying-HongIn this paper, atmospheric-pressure air and oxygen corona plasma jets under water surface have been used to generate plasma-activated water (PAW) to inactivate colletotrichum gloeosporioides (C. gloeosporioides) suspension. The atmospheric-pressure plasma jets in the water were characterized by measuring: 1) the electrical and optical properties for evaluating the plasma efficiency and 2) the physicochemical properties of PAW, including pH value, oxidation-reduction potential value, and the concentration of hydrogen peroxide, nitrite, and ozone. The aim of this paper is to investigate the effects of long-lived reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS) and environmental factor (acidity) in PAW on fungicidal property. The results of antifungal activity show that the inactivation rate of C. gloeosporioides is higher using air-PAW than oxygen-PAW, and increases with increasing reaction time when preparation time of PAW is fixed as 30 min. This correlates well with measurements of the aqueous-phase long-lived RONS concentration such as nitrate and ozone, suggesting these species play crucial roles in the inactivation process.
