Item type:Item, 3D mobile display based on dual directional lightguides(2005) ;Chu, Yu-Mioun ;Chien, Ko-Wei ;Shieh, Han-Ping D. ;Chang, Jim-MinHu, AaronA novel light direction controlling backlight for 3D mobile display was proposed and fabricated. This backlight consists of two identical lightguides which are sysmmetrically placed. One plane of each lightguide is patterned with micro-grooves structure. With the specially deisgned lightuides, the emitting light can be redirected to the left and right eyes respectively by sequentially switching the light sources. The groove angle and spacing of micro-grooves on the lightguides are tuned to achieve directionality and uniformity of greater that 80%. Crosstalk of les than 7% was also obtained. In addition, the module provides the compatibility in 2D and 3D modes.Item type:Item, Micro-Optics for Liquid Crystal Displays Applications(2005-09-01) ;Shieh, Han-Ping D. ;Huang, Yi-Pai ;Chien, Ko-Wei ;光電工程學系顯示科技研究所Micro-optics have become the key technology in liquid crystal display systems due to its capabilities of miniaturization and design flexibility. Design consideration and experimental results of microoptical components for enhancing the image quality, providing better functions, increasing light efficiency, and generating 3D images in liquid crystal display (LCD) applications are presented.Item type:Item, Microlens-array on transflective displays for light efficiency enhancement(2005) ;Wang, Jun-Jay ;Chien, Ko-Wei ;Shieh, Han-Ping D. ;光電工程學系Department of PhotonicsTransflective LCD is generally applied for portable products. but its lower backlight efficiency is a critical issue. Hence, a novel transflective LCD consists of a backlight collective component, microlens array, was demonstrated to increase backlight efficiency by a factor of 1.94. Self align method, which is compatible with standard LCD fabrication processing, has been demonstrated to minimize alignment error.
