Item type:Item, High figure-of-merit laterally fluorinated biphenyltolane-isothiocyanates(2007) ;Gauza, Sebastian ;Zhao, Yang ;Le Cor, Tatiana ;Wu, Shin-TsonZiolek, AnnaWe have designed, synthesized, and evaluated the physical properties of some high birefringence (Delta n) isothiocyanato biphenyl-tolane liquid crystals. These compounds exhibit Delta n similar to 0.48-0.52 at room temperature and wavelength lambda = 633 nm. Laterally substituted short alkyl chains and fluorine atom elinlinate smectic phase and lower the melting temperature. The moderate melting temperature and very high clearing temperature make those compounds attractive for eutectic mixture formulation. A eutectic mixture based on those compounds was formulated and its physical properties evaluated.Item type:Item, Optics and Photonics of Taiwan International Conference: Introduction by the feature editors(2014-08-01) ;Fuh, Andy Y. -G. ;Khoo, Iam Choon ;Lin, Tsung-Hsien ;Huang, Yi-PaiChien, Liang-ChyThis Applied Optics feature issue is dedicated to the Optics and Photonics of Taiwan International Conference (OPTIC 2013), held 5-7 December 2013 in Zhongli (Chung-Li), Taiwan. The conference takes place every year at different universities in Taiwan. This feature issue is particularly focused on a broad range of topics covered under subconference VII (Display Technology), and also includes topics pertaining to display technology under other subconferences. In addition, the feature issue is open to all other researchers in the related area.
