Item type:Item, Electronic stopping powers of solids for slow atoms(2001-10-01) ;Kwei, CM ;Chou, JJ ;Yao, J ;Tung, CJ電子工程學系及電子研究所Based on the dielectric response theory, electronic stopping powers of solids for slow atoms have been studied. Using a local-field-correction dielectric function, we have calculated these stopping powers by including the correlation and exchange effects. The screening of shellwise electron charge densities of slow atoms by the conduction electrons in solids was estimated using a Thomas-Fermi screening model. In this model, atomic shellwise electron densities were constructed by a superposition of several Yukawa potentials. Stopping powers of Al, Ni, Ag, and Au were calculated for atoms with atomic number between 6 and 18. Calculated results showed that stopping powers oscillated with atomic number consistent with experimental data. Present results also indicated that our approach is much improved over other theoretical calculations. A comparison of presently calculated results with available theoretical and experimental data was made and discussed.Item type:Item, Some topological properties of bitonic sorters(1998-09-01) ;Lee, TH ;Chou, JJ ;電信工程研究所Institute of Communications EngineeringThis paper proves some topological properties of bitonic sorters, which have found applications in constructing, along with banyan networks, internally nonblocking switching fabrics in future broadband networks. The states of all the sorting elements of an N x N bitonic sorter are studied for four different input sequences {a(i)}(i=1)(N), {bi}(j=1)(N), {c(i)}(i=1)(N), and (di)(i=1)(N), where a(i)=i-1, b(i)=N-i, and the binary representations of c(i) and d(i) are the bit reverse of those of a(i) and b(i), respectively. An application of these topological properties is to help design efficient fault diagnosis procedures. We present an example for detecting and locating single faulty sorting element under a simple fault model where all sorting elements are always in the straight state or the cross state.
