Item type:Item, An ANOVA test for the equivalency of means under unequal variances(2000-04-28) ;Chen, SY ;Chen, HJ ;Ding, CG ;經營管理研究所Institute of Business and ManagementIn this paper, we present a two-stage test procedure for testing the hypothesis that the normal means are falling into a practically indifferent zone. Both the level and the power associated with the proposed test are controllable and are completely independent of the unknown variances. Relation to a single-stage procedure is discussed when the two-stage sampling procedure cannot be completely carried through. An example and tables needed for implementation are given. The purpose of this paper is to provide an effective statistical approach to analyze perceived environmental risks. Environmental problems, evaluative criteria, and other potential moderator variables need to be determined first, and then the risk perception data collected. Repeated measures analysis is used to first test for interactions between environmental problems and potential moderator variables. If there are no significant interactions, then the risk difference among environmental problems is tested unconditionally; otherwise the risk difference is tested conditionally. Cluster analysis for environmental problems is performed only when the risk difference is significant. The clustering results can be objectively determined by using the simultaneous T-confidence intervals. Risk-based priority setting is made according to the clusters obtained. To illustrate this approach, an empirical study of comparative socioeconomic risks in Taiwan was conducted. Socioeconomic impacts areas including social security, quality of life, production cost, investment willingness, and economic resources are used as evaluative criteria. Results indicate that selected impact areas do affect relative risk differences among 24 environmental problems, and the difference is significant for each area. Therefore, cluster analysis is conducted separately for each impact area. Risk-based priority settings for clusters of environmental problems are reported.Item type:Item, An efficient algorithm for computing quantiles of the noncentral chi-squared distribution(1999-01-28) ;Ding, CG ;管理科學系Department of Management ScienceAn efficient algorithm is provided for computing quantiles of the noncentral chi-squared distribution. Newton's method, which requires the evaluations of both of the noncentral chi-squared distribution function and the density, is used. A close relationship between their recursive computing formulas is noted to allow concurrent evaluation of the distribution function and the density. Newton's iterative computation can therefore be greatly speeded up. An example is given to illustrate the usefulness of the algorithm. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. The exhaustive comparison approach compares all possible order vectors instead of "an" optimal order vector to help the data analyst to consider "practical" solutions rather than a "desired" solution. An overall concordant order ratio is proposed to measure "how well" each order vector may represent the ranking structure of an ordinal data set. And the marginal concordant ratio evaluating the goodness of fit of each object in each order vector is also proposed in this paper. Comparisons among some popular ranking methods are discussed in this article. An empirical survey data regarding how travelers considered various factors for choosing travelling locations are used to illustrate the proposed method and calculations.Item type:Item, Development of the sales locus of control scale(2002-06-01) ;Chung, YY ;Ding, CG ;交大名義發表National Chiao Tung UniversityThe sales locus of control scale (SLCS), composed of 12 items, was developed to measure the constructs of internal, chance and powerful others. A total of 1153 Taiwan insurance and industrial salespeople were used for development and evaluation of the scale. Construct validity, validities related to 29 criteria and reliabilities were all evaluated. Results indicated that reliabilities, the construct validity and most criterion-related validities are supported. Results also indicated that the criterion validities of the SLCS are generally better than those of locus of control scales developed by Rotter, Levenson and Spector. Moreover, situation-specific and multidimensional SLCS contains fewer items, and its validity is less attenuated by social desirability. The usefulness of the scale is also discussed.Item type:Item, Modeling information ethics: The joint moderating role of locus of control and job insecurity(2003-12-01) ;Lin, CP ;Ding, CG ;經營管理研究所Institute of Business and ManagementInformation unethical behavior is concerned with ethical behavioural conflicts in the use of information, information technologies, and information systems (Kuo and Hsu, 2001). This study examines the combination of locus of control (LOC) and job insecurity (JI) as a joint moderator on the decision making process for information ethical behavioral intentions. A conceptual model is proposed to see the joint moderating role of LOC and JI. In the model, ethical behavioral intentions are influenced directly by ethical attitude, personal values, and perceived behavioural control. Simultaneously, personal values also indirectly influence ethical behavioral intentions through the mediation of ethical attitude. The causal relationships are moderated by the joint moderator. Notably, the moderating effects were simultaneously examined using data from undergraduates in the MIS department of a college. The influences of the ethical attitude and personal values on ethical behavioral intentions are found to be similar for those with external locus of control and insecurity perception (Confusionists) and those with internal locus of control and security perception (Controlists). Furthermore, the influences of personal values on ethical attitude, and of perceived behavioural control on ethical behavioral intentions, are both greater for Controlists than Confusionists. Implications of the empirical findings are discussed.Item type:Item, Multiple comparisons of ranking vectors(1998) ;Chu, PY ;Wu, SS ;Ding, CG ;Chang, WCW管理科學系Many managerial studies have indicated that the relative importance of the appealing of working factors far the working environment is perceived differently by different working classes. Different parties may rank the same working factors in different sequences according to their perceived importance. How do we establish a ranking vector of the attractive working factors for a set of employees? How do we compare the ranking vectors from different sets of employees? These issues need to be effectively handled to improve management quality. The concept of multiple comparisons of ranking vectors can be applied in many managerial applications, such as selecting portfolios, designing training programs, positioning, peer-ranking, conducting performance appraisal and so on. This paper discusses the concept of multiple comparisons of ranking vectors, and proposed a method for implementation. An empirical survey data regarding expectation and perception of a training program in a firm is used for illustration.Item type:Item, On the computation of the distribution of the square of the sample multiple correlation coefficient(1996-08-10) ;Ding, CG ;管理科學系Department of Management ScienceTwo computationally simple methods are proposed to evaluate the distribution function and the density of the square of the sample multiple correlation coefficient. No auxiliary routine is required. The accuracy of recursive computations can be effectively controlled. The distribution function and the density can be evaluated concurrently because their computing formulas are closely related. This property can enhance efficiency of Newton's method for computing the quantiles of the distribution. The corresponding algorithms are provided in a step-by-step form.Item type:Item, On the computation of the distribution of the square of the sample multiple correlation coefficient(1996-08-10) ;Ding, CG ;管理科學系Department of Management ScienceTwo computationally simple methods are proposed to evaluate the distribution function and the density of the square of the sample multiple correlation coefficient. Some relationship between recurrence formulas for computing the noncentral F distribution function and its derivative with respect to the noncentrality parameter is investigated. Use of the relationship discovered can combine the evaluations of the noncentral F distribution function and its derivative, and therefore can reduce the amount of computations during Newton's process. An efficient algorithm featuring this finding is provided in a step-by-step form.Item type:Item, On using Newton's method for computing the noncentrality parameter of the noncentral F distribution(1997-01-01) ;Ding, CG ;管理科學系Department of Management ScienceThis article deals with how to enhance computational efficiency of Newton's method for computing the noncentrality parameter of the noncentral F distribution. Design/methodology/approach - Data were obtained via questionnaires from randomly selected ADSL customers of Chunghwa. Telecom. The constructs were measured using existing scales. SEM was used to examine the effects. Findings - Relational selling behavior, network quality, and service recovery indirectly influence loyalty through the mediation of relationship quality, consisting of satisfaction and trust. The effects of relational selling behavior on satisfaction and trust are stronger for inexperienced than for experienced customers. Those of network quality on satisfaction and trust are similar for both experienced and inexperienced customers. Those of service recovery on satisfaction and trust are stronger for experienced than for inexperienced customers. Research limitations/implications, - There are three limitations. First, customer loyalty may be only partially reflected since it was measured by self-reports. Second, there may exist common method variance. Third, the generalizability of the findings might be limited. Practical implications - IT service organizations should invest in training programs and advertising campaigns, the ways of transferring information and services to users, to improve relationship quality. Managers should be careful not to try partnering initiatives with customers without knowing their prior IT experience. Originality/value - This study presents a thorough understanding of how relational selling behavior, network quality, and service recovery indirectly influence loyalty through satisfaction and trust, and how prior IT experience moderates the above relationships in ISP service.Item type:Item, Subgrouping small states based on socioeconomic characteristics(2002-07-01) ;Liou, FM ;Ding, CG ;交大名義發表National Chiao Tung UniversityDeveloping small states are often discussed as a whole because of shared vulnerabilities, but could instead be treated according to their different socioeconomic characteristics. This paper investigates those differences and subgroups them through the use of statistical methods. Seven common factors were first extracted from 25 key socioeconomic indicators. Cluster analysis based on factor scores was then used to obtain distinct clusters of small states. Nine well-delineated clusters were thus obtained, each of which containing small states with similar characteristics, Managerial implications for international aid based on the findings are then proposed.
