Item type:Item, Holographic data storage with a planar-integrated optical write-read head(2009-01-01) ;Soellner, Matthias ;Vieth, Udo ;Hsu, Ken Yuh ;Lin, Shiuan HueiGruber, MatthiasThe construction of a write-once-read-many-type optical write-read-head for volume holographic data storage in disk-based photopolymer storage media is discussed. Its design is based on the photonic integration concept called planar-integrated free-space optics. A proof-of-principle demonstrator was fabricated, it contains a 3mm thick fused silica wafer that carries most passive components for the reference and the signal beam relay in the form of diffractive optical elements, a translucent liquid crystal microdisplay, and the CCD sensor of a webcam. Phenanthrenequinone-doped polymethylmethacrylate was chosen as storage material, a DPSS laser with lambda = 532nm serves as light source. We report about preliminary experiments to determine suitable exposure parameters for holographic write-read operations, and on the use of data matrix codes for the encoding and decoding of information.Item type:Item, Integrated micro-optical write-read head for holographic data storage(2008-01-01) ;Vieth, Udo ;Gruber, Matthias ;Hsu, K. -Y. ;Lin, S. -H.電子物理學系We discuss the micro-integration of an optical write-read head for disk-based volume holographic data storage. A particular approach based on the design principle of planar-integrated free-space optics and on photopolymer storage materials is proposed. Numerical construction parameters are calculated and initial experimental results concerning the performance of the photopolymer are presented.Item type:Item, Plastic planar-integrated free-space optical interconnector(2007-08-01) ;Wei, An-Chi ;Gruber, Matthias ;Jarczynski, Manfred ;Jahns, JUrgenShieh, Han-Ping D.The planar integration of free-space optical (PIFSO) systems on poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) substrates was demonstrated using an example of a fiber-to-free-space-to-fiber interconnector module. This plastic module was designed to accommodate standard mechanically-tran sferable-(MT-) connected fiber cables and contained a set of two nested refractive imaging lenses, one of which was used as an off-axis lens. In our experiment, an average coupling efficiency of -4.4 dB and a crosstalk suppression larger than 33 d13 were measured. The perfortnance, fabrication tolerances, and operation conditions of this interconnector module as well as the general benefits of plastic materials for the PIFSO systems were discussed.
