Item type:Item, A BUCKLING ANALYSIS FOR 3D BEAMS(1993) ;HSIAO, KM ;YANG, RT ;交大名義發表National Chiao Tung UniversityItem type:Item, A CONSISTENT FINITE-ELEMENT FORMULATION FOR NONLINEAR DYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF PLANAR BEAM(1994-01-15) ;HSIAO, KM ;YANG, RT ;LEE, AC ;交大名義發表機械工程學系A co-rotational finite element formulation for the dynamic analysis of planar Euler beam is presented. Both the internal nodal forces due to deformation and the inertia nodal forces are systematically derived by consistent linearization of the fully geometrically non-linear beam theory using the d'Alembert principle and the virtual work principle. Due to the consideration of the exact kinematics of Euler beam, some velocity coupling terms are obtained in the inertia nodal forces. An incremental-iterative method based on the Newmark direct integration method and the Newton-Raphson method is employed here for the solution of the non-linear dynamic equilibrium equations. Numerical examples are presented to investigate the effect of the velocity coupling terms on the dynamic response of the beam structures.Item type:Item, A COROTATIONAL FORMULATION FOR NONLINEAR DYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF CURVED EULER BEAM(1995-03-17) ;HSIAO, KM ;YANG, RT ;交大名義發表 ;機械工程學系National Chiao Tung UniversityA co-rotational finite element formulation for the dynamic analysis of a planar curved Euler beam is presented. The Euler-Bernoulli hypothesis and the initial curvature are properly considered for the kinematics of a curved beam. Both the deformational nodal forces and the inertial nodal forces of the beam element are systematically derived by consistent linearization of the fully geometrically nonlinear beam theory in element coordinates which are constructed at the current configuration of the corresponding beam element. An incremental-iterative method based on the Newmark direct integration method and the Newton-Raphson method is employed here for the solution of the nonlinear dynamic equilibrium equations. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed element and to investigate the effect of the initial curvature on the dynamic response of the curved beam structures.Item type:Item, A COROTATIONAL PROCEDURE THAT HANDLES LARGE ROTATIONS OF SPATIAL BEAM STRUCTURES(1987) ;HSIAO, KM ;HORNG, HJ ;CHEN, YR ;交大名義發表機械工程學系Item type:Item, AN INVESTIGATION INTO GEOMETRICALLY NONLINEAR-ANALYSIS OF RECTANGULAR LAMINATED PLATES USING THE HIERARCHICAL FINITE-ELEMENT METHOD(1994-12-01) ;HAN, WM ;PETYT, M ;HSIAO, KM ;機械工程學系Department of Mechanical EngineeringThe geometrically nonlinear analysis of laminated composite rectangular plates is studied using the hierarchical finite element method (HFEM). The derivation of the equilibrium equations and tangential stiffness matrix are given. Symbolic computation is used to calculate the high-order polynomial integrals needed to establish the stiffness matrices. The Newton-Raphson method is used in the iterative procedure. The convergence property and the numerical stability of the method are discussed. The influence of in-plane displacements on the geometrically nonlinear deformation is also discussed. The results of static analyses indicate that the extension of HFEM to geometrically nonlinear analysis of laminated rectangular plates is very successful. It is believed that this scheme can be easily applied to geometrically nonlinear dynamic analysis of laminated plates.Item type:Item, CALCULATION OF THE PEIERLS BARRIER WITH A TENSION-FRENKEL-KONTOROVA MODEL(1981-01-01) ;SHIE, JS ;HSIAO, KM ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsItem type:Item, COROTATIONAL TOTAL LAGRANGIAN FORMULATION FOR 3-DIMENSIONAL BEAM ELEMENT(1992-03-01) ;HSIAO, KM ;交大名義發表 ;機械工程學系 ;National Chiao Tung UniversityDepartment of Mechanical EngineeringA corotational total Lagrangian formulation of beam element is presented for the nonlinear analysis of three-dimensional beam structures with large rotations but small strains. The nonlinear coupling among the bending, twisting, and stretching deformations is considered. All of the element deformations and equations are defined in body-attached element coordinates. Three rotation parameters are proposed to determine the orientation of the element cross section. Two sets of element nodal parameters termed explicit nodal parameters and implicit nodal parameters are introduced. The explicit nodal parameters are used in the assembly of the system equations from the element equations and chosen to be three components of the incremental translation vector and three components of the incremental rotation vector. The implicit nodal parameters are used to determine the deformations of the beam element and chosen to be three components of the total displacement vector and nodal values of the three rotation parameters. The element internal nodal forces corresponding to the implicit nodal parameters are obtained from the virtual work principle. Numerical examples are presented and compared with the numerical and experimental results reported in the literature to demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method.Item type:Item, DYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF PLANAR FLEXIBLE MECHANISMS BY COROTATIONAL FORMULATION(1991-05-01) ;HSIAO, KM ;JANG, JY ;交大名義發表 ;機械工程學系National Chiao Tung UniversityA co-rotational formulation of beam element and numerical procedure for the dynamic analysis of planar flexible mechanisms is presented. The nodal coordinates, velocities, accelerations, incremental displacements and rotations, and equations of motion of the system are defined in terms of fixed global coordinates, while the total strains in the beam element are measured in an element coordinate system which rotates and translates with the element but does not deform with the element. The element equations are constructed using the small deflection beam theory with the inclusion of the effect of axial force first in the element coordinate system, and then transformed to the global coordinate system using a standard procedure. In the proposed approach the resulting equations of motion are the same as those typically arising in nonlinear structural dynamics. An incremental-iterative method based on the Newmark direct integration method and the Newton-Raphson method is employed here for numerical studies. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the present method.Item type:Item, GEOMETRICALLY NONLINEAR DYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF CURED EULER BEAM(1994) ;HSIAO, KM ;YANG, RT ;機械工程學系Department of Mechanical EngineeringItem type:Item, LARGE DISPLACEMENT ANALYSIS OF ELASTO-PLASTIC FRAMES(1988) ;HSIAO, KM ;HOU, FY ;SPILIOPOULOS, KV ;機械工程學系Department of Mechanical EngineeringItem type:Item, LARGE-DEFLECTION ANALYSIS OF SHELL STRUCTURE BY USING COROTATIONAL TOTAL LAGRANGIAN FORMULATION(1989-05-01) ;HSIAO, KM ;HUNG, HC ;交大名義發表 ;機械工程學系National Chiao Tung UniversityItem type:Item, NONLINEAR DYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF ELASTIC FRAMES(1989) ;HSIAO, KM ;JANG, JY ;交大名義發表 ;機械工程學系National Chiao Tung UniversityItem type:Item, NONLINEAR FINITE-ELEMENT ANALYSIS OF ELASTIC FRAMES(1987-01-01) ;HSIAO, KM ;HOU, FY ;機械工程學系Department of Mechanical EngineeringItem type:Item, NONLINEAR FINITE-ELEMENT ANALYSIS OF ELASTIC FRAMES(1987-01-01) ;HSIAO, KM ;HOU, FY ;交大名義發表 ;機械工程學系National Chiao Tung UniversityItem type:Item, NONLINEAR-ANALYSIS OF GENERAL SHELL STRUCTURES BY FLAT TRIANGULAR SHELL ELEMENT(1987) ;HSIAO, KM ;交大名義發表 ;機械工程學系 ;National Chiao Tung UniversityDepartment of Mechanical EngineeringItem type:Item, NONLINEAR-ANALYSIS OF SHELL STRUCTURES BY DEGENERATED ISOPARAMETRIC SHELL ELEMENT(1989) ;HSIAO, KM ;CHEN, YR ;交大名義發表 ;機械工程學系National Chiao Tung UniversityItem type:Item, RELIABILITY-ANALYSIS OF NONLINEAR LAMINATED COMPOSITE PLATE STRUCTURES(1993) ;KAM, TY ;LIN, SC ;HSIAO, KM ;交大名義發表機械工程學系A procedure for the reliability analysis of laminated composite plate structures subjected to large deflections under random static loads is presented. The nonlinear analysis of laminated composite plate structures is achieved via a corotational total Lagrangian finite element formulation which is based on the von Karman assumption and first order shear deformation theory. This formulation is applicable for the nonlinear analysis of plate structures with large rotations but moderate deformation and thus accurate enough to predict the behavior of the structures at the point of failure. The reliability assessment of laminated composite plate structures with random strength subjected to random loads is approached by the determination of limit state surfaces in load space' The limit space surfaces are obtained by performing a series of first ply failure analyses following different load paths in load space using the proposed nonlinear structural analysis technique and an appropriate failure criterion. A numerical technique is then proposed to evaluate the reliability of the plate structures. Examples of the reliability analyses of laminated plates with different layer orientations subject to random loads are given for illustration.Item type:Item, TRANSIENT ANALYSIS OF AN ASYMMETRIC ROTOR-BEARING SYSTEM DURING ACCELERATION(1992-11-01) ;LEE, AC ;KANG, Y ;TSAI, KL ;HSIAO, KM交大名義發表This paper deals with the transient vibration of asymmetric rotor systems during acceleration passing through several critical speeds at which synchronous or super-harmonic resonance occurs. The dynamic equations of the rotor-bearing system are formulated by the finite element model and the resulting dynamic equations are time-varying due to the effects of acceleration and asymmetry. In the formulation, a Timoshenko beam element is employed to simulate the rotating shaft and Eulerian angles are used to describe the orientations of the shaft element and disk. The numerical integration scheme for transient analysis is generated from the finite element model. Numerical examples are presented to illustrate (1) the effects of acceleration on peak amplitude and speed at which the peak occurs as the system passes through critical speeds, (2) the optimal acceleration process, which can be obtained by minimizing the peak response and the period of acceleration, (3) the speed regions where the transient instability exists.
