Item type:Item, A NOVEL DESIGN FOR THE UNKNOWN INPUT FAULT-DETECTION OBSERVER(1995-06-01) ;CHANG, SK ;HSU, PL ;電子工程學系及電子研究所 ;電控工程研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsThe unknown input fault detection observer (UIFDO) is one of the most powerful diagnostic approaches for disturbed and uncertain dynamic systems. Normally, the procedure for designing a UIFDO is complicated. This paper presents a novel approach that uses vector projection theory to develop a direct design algorithm with simple matrix calculations for the synthesis of a UIFDO. Some associated existence conditions for the fault detectability of a stable UIFDO are also discussed. In addition to fault detection, we extend the proposed UIFDO Co handle fault isolation by appending a post filter to specify and diagonalize the fault/residual map. Detailed examples reveal the effectiveness of the proposed methodology.Item type:Item, A PARAMETRIC TRANSFER-MATRIX APPROACH TO FAULT-IDENTIFICATION FILTER DESIGN AND THRESHOLD SELECTION(1995-04-01) ;CHANG, SK ;HSU, PL ;LIN, KL ;電子工程學系及電子研究所電控工程研究所By employing st transfer matrix approach we develop straightforward design procedures to construct a fault-identification filter (FIDF) to achieve failure detection and isolation. Furthermore, we derive the necessary and sufficient conditions for the synthesis of the FIDF. The condition entails a parametrization of the set of all achievable diagonal fault/residual maps and the set of all existing FIDFs. Since the diagnostic performance of the FIDF is influenced significantly by the model uncertainty, we present a framework for analysing the FIDF by incorporating modelling errors. Consequently, a criterion to determine an adequate threshold for the FIDF based on robust control theory is derived. Examples are used to illustrate the validity of this approach.Item type:Item, A robust diagnostic approach for uncertain systems: An example for the jet engine sensor systems(1995) ;HSU, PL ;SHEN, LC ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control EngineeringItem type:Item, APPLICATIONS OF SELF-TUNING CONTROL ON INDUSTRIAL CNC MACHINES(1994-08-01) ;HSU, PL ;HSIEH, MY ;交大名義發表 ;電控工程研究所National Chiao Tung UniversityMost successful applications of parameter adaptive control to obtain constant cutting forces in machining processes have been limited to laboratory environments. This paper presents a methodology for realizing efficient adaptive control algorithms in industrial CNC machines. Experimental results concerning the fixed gain integral control and variable gain MRAC show that the present set-up in a heavy-duty CNC machining center leads to predictable control behavior. Furthermore, two effective algorithms-a deadbeat self-tuning control with increased order and a PID-type self-tuning control based on the pole-placement method-are implemented to obtain more effective cutting control performance. In this study, repeatable and satisfactory experimental results show that the technique developed here for real manufacturing processes is feasible.Item type:Item, DIAGNOSIS OF MULTIPLE SENSOR AND ACTUATOR FAILURES IN AUTOMOTIVE ENGINES(1995-11-01) ;HSU, PL ;LIN, KL ;SHEN, LC ;交大名義發表電控工程研究所Unlike cases where only a single failure occurs, fault detection and isolation of multiple sensor and actuator failures for engines are difficult to achieve because of the interactive effects of the failed components. If faults all appear either in sensors only or in actuators only, many existing residual generators which provide decoupled residual signals can be employed directly to obtain proper fault detection and isolation. However, when both sensor and actuator failures occur at the same time, their mutual effects on residuals make fault isolation particularly difficult, Under such circumstances, further decision logic is required. In this paper, we propose a hexadecimal decision table to relate all possible failure patterns to the residual code. The residual code is obtained through simple threshold testing of the residuals, which are the output of a general scheme of residual generators. The proposed diagnostic system incorporating the hexadecimal decision table has been successfully applied to automotive engine sensors and actuators in both simulation and experimental analyses. Enhancement of the present diagnostic performance by implementing an additional sensor is also described.Item type:Item, FUZZY ADAPTIVE-CONTROL OF MILLING PROCESSES(1992) ;FANN, WR ;HSU, PL ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control EngineeringItem type:Item, GENERAL-STRUCTURED UNKNOWN INPUT OBSERVERS(1994) ;CHANG, SK ;YOU, WT ;HSU, PL ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsItem type:Item, ON THE APPLICATION OF THE (1)-INVERSE TO THE DESIGN OF GENERAL STRUCTURED UNKNOWN INPUT OBSERVERS(1994-12-01) ;CHANG, SK ;HSU, PL ;電子工程學系及電子研究所 ;電控工程研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsThis paper presents a concise and straightforward formulation of the unknown input observer (UIO) problem based on the general structured observer. By employing the simplest generalized inverse of matrices, the {1}-inverse, we develop constructive design procedures for the UIO design that provide necessary and sufficient conditions for both full-order and reduced-order general structured UIOs. Moreover, corresponding configurations for continuous-time systems are also derived, and consequently this paper renders the complete solutions for general structured UIO design. Furthermore, we show that the general structured UIO is structurally and numerically equivalent to the UIO in the configuration of Luenberger observer. Examples are included to illustrate the validity of the proposed methodology.Item type:Item, REALTIME 3D SIMULATION OF 3-AXIS MILLING USING ISOMETRIC PROJECTION(1993-04-01) ;HSU, PL ;YANG, WT ;交大名義發表 ;電控工程研究所National Chiao Tung UniversityThe paper presents an efficient realtime simulator for 3-axis milling processes. In this system, solid modeling is performed using isometric projection with a z-map structure. As a result, all the solid elements are either fully exposed or fully hidden, and they are well arranged and symmetrical. These characteristics make visible surface determination for the raster display more efficient, and they reduce the memory requirements considerably. As a result, this efficient and realtime voxel-based model can simulate NC milling processes satisfactorily even in personal computers, without the aid of extra hardware devices or coprocessors. This simulation system will be useful to NC programmers and machining operators for identifying programs and checking gross programming errors visually.Item type:Item, SENSITIVITY OF FAILURE-DETECTION USING GENERALIZED OBSERVERS - COMMENTS(1994-02-01) ;CHANG, SK ;HSU, PL ;電子工程學系及電子研究所 ;電控工程研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsBy considering the sensitivity-robustness problem in analytical redundancy-based fault detection schemes, Manquez, H. J. and C. P. Diduch (1992). Sensitivity of failure detection using generalized observers. Automatica, 28, 837-840, proposed a new General Observer to overcome the limits on achievable sensitivity imposed by the structure of classical full-order observers and partial state observers. It is shown here that this General Observer can be found to be equivalent to the partial state observer using the generalized Bezout identity. Two corrected representations of equations (20) and (23) in Manquez and Diduch's paper are also provided.
