Item type:Item, A highly integrated Horizontal coordinate-based tool for architecture(2019-01-01) ;Cheng, Chi-Li ;Hou, June-Hao ;交大名義發表National Chiao Tung UniversityIn this research, we attempt to develop a tool which integrates certain common geographic information from OpenStreetMap and Open Topography into Grasshopper. We name it as OSMKIT temporarily. Besides, in order to make the integration in the design process easier, this tool includes the bilateral conversion function of coordinate in Rhinoceros 3D and the coordinate of the World Geodetic System. These characteristics bring about several possibilities for further usage. This paper contains explanations of functions and examples. For instance, it can be employed for data visualization on a map when these data contain coordinate information. Additionally, since this tool is simple and intuitive to convert points into GPS coordinates, it can make users plan drone for photogrammetry and deal with other related tasks on the rhinoceros 3D interface, helping them to gain most current urban models. Moreover, architects or designers can be not only users but also contributors for open source map system such as OpenStreetMap; the process of sharing the mode which user measure is demonstrated in this paper. To sum up, this coordinate system based tool is designed to be multifunctional and suitable for interdisciplinary usages in grasshopper.Item type:Item, A Method of Mesh Simplification for Drone 3D Modeling with Architectural Feature Extraction(2019-01-01) ;Cheng, Chi-Li ;Hou, June-Hao ;交大名義發表National Chiao Tung UniversityThis paper proposes a method of mesh simplification for 3D terrain or city models generated photogrammetrically from drone captured images, enabled by the ability of extracting the architectural features. Compare to traditional geometric computational method, the proposed method recognizes and processes the features from the architectural perspectives. In addition, the workflow also allows exporting the simplified models and geometric features to open platforms, e.g. OpenStreetMap, for practical usages in site analysis, city generation, and contributing to the open data communities.Item type:Item, Biomimetic Robotic Construction Process An approach for adapting mass irregular-shaped natural materials(2016-01-01) ;Cheng, Chi-Li ;Hou, June-Hao ;交大名義發表National Chiao Tung UniversityBeaver dams are formed by two main processes. One is that beavers select proper woods for constructing. The other one is that streams aggregate those woods to be assembled. Using this approach to construction structure is suitable for natural environment. In this paper, we attempt to develop a construction process which is suitable for all-terrain construction robot in the future. This construction process is inspired by beavers' construction behavior in nature. Beavers select proper sticks to make the structure stable. We predict that particular properties of sticks contribute gravity-driven assembly of wood structure. Thus, we implement the system with machine learning to find proper properties of sticks to improve selection mechanism of construction process. During this construction process, 3D scanner on robotic arm scans and recognizes sticks on terrain, and then robot will select proper sticks and place them. After placement, the system will scan and record the results for learning mechanism.Item type:Item, DESIGN WITH BAMBOO BEND(2016) ;Chen, I-Chih ;Hou, June-Hao ;交大名義發表National Chiao Tung UniversityBamboo is a high potential alternative solution for substituting industrial material with its natural characteristics, economical and environmental aspects. However, one of the biggest challenges for natural materials to be used in computational designed is the controllability due to its unevenness nature. The other gap is the lack of material parameters that might be bridged by analysing data acquired from conventional tests. This research studied the raw bamboo strip and its natural forming from bending, by using sampling points and curvature reconstruction. The parametric models of bamboo strips were then constructed to represent its material behaviours for form prediction, material selection, and simulation in parametric design. It also serves as an assistive method for material selection when crafting with bamboo bend.Item type:Item, Pneu-Multi-Tools: Auto-Folding and Multi-Shapes Interface by Pneumatics in Virtual Reality(2019-01-01) ;Hu, Sheng-Pei ;Hou, June-Hao ;交大名義發表National Chiao Tung UniversityPneu-Multi-Tools is a novel passive haptic feedback (PHF) wearable device that let users grip different shapes of virtual props in virtual reality(VR) with sensing the shape changes of foldable airbags driven by pneumatics. The solution to the limitation of primitive shapes in haptic interfaces for VR in the past is proposed in this research. TPU films can be manufactured into 4 kinds of folding shapes(clip, rectangle, cylinder and cone shape) owing to the numbers and orientation of folding hinges on a single airbag. Therefore, Pneu-Multi-Tools, which is stacked with different folding shapes of airbags and capable of automatically folding, enables users to use multi-props intuitively in VR games. There are 3 interaction scenarios are provided by this interface:"Pick-Up", "Order" and "Hot Key" in multi-props games to make it possible for users to switch the props more efficiently.Item type:Item, SPARK WALL Control responsive environment by human behaviour(2015) ;Wu, Kuan-Ying ;Hou, June-Hao ;建築研究所Institude of ArchitectureResponsive environment uses human computer interface (HCI) to improve how human experience their surrounding. Many research aimed at different kind of interactive environment modules with new digital tectonics or computation components. However, those new environments are sometimes could be manipulated by components which are less use-friendly and complex than traditional counterparts. In this paper, we implemented a real responsive interface - the Spark wall system, which use 160 actuator modules as our responsive feedback interface and depth camera as sensing input. We built up multi-modal interface for different operating purposes allowing user control responsive environment with their human behavior. User could change their body posture to change the pattern of the wall and moreover define touch-input area on any surface. For the user\'s perspective, a responsive environment should be simply and understandable control. A responsive artifact should also be able to dynamically correspond to different methods of operation according to the user\'s intentions
