Item type:Item, Development of a Cause-and-Effect Model for Analyzing National Competitiveness of the Electric Vehicle Industry(2015-11-01) ;Hwang, B. N. ;Lin, Grace T. R. ;Hsieh, P. S. ;Hsi, P. H.科技管理研究所In a world where energy conservation and environmental protection are growing concerns, the development of electric vehicles (EVs) has taken on an accelerated pace and drawn high levels of interest across many developed and developing countries. The purpose of this study is to explore what constitutes national competitiveness in EVs development and how one nation can efficiently achieve that development in its EV industry. We used Porter\'s diamond model as an underlying theory to describe the sources of national competitiveness. The DEMATEL method was employed to analyze the structural model and reveal the cause-and-effect relationships of the sources of competitiveness. Having identified the causal relationships and strengths of those competitiveness sources, we formulated a path with clear and logical links that lead a nation to achieve the best results when establishing an emerging industry.Item type:Item, Evaluating the Commercial Potential of Original Technologies in Universities(2016-08) ;Lee, Y. C. ;Lin, Grace T. R. ;Hsi, P. H. ;Lim, S. S.科技管理研究所Since 2010, Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and Academia Sinica in Taiwan have formulated the Germination Program to translate important scientific discoveries into innovative developments. Using actual cases, this study aimed to propose a technology evaluation framework consisting of a hybrid fuzzy multi-criteria decision making (fuzzy MCDM) approach to evaluate and prioritize the optimal alternatives with best commercial potential. The fuzzy Delphi method was first used to determine the three dimensions and nine important decision criteria. Next, the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (fuzzy AHP) results indicated that the top three dimensions are accordingly "technological innovation", "business development" and "operating management". The top three important criteria are "technological origins", "potential impact" and "technological competence" respectively. Finally, the fuzzy technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (fuzzy TOPSIS) results revealed that T2 and T4 are the two optimal alternatives with best commercial potential for further funding and commercialization. The proposed technology evaluation framework could serve as a reference to both government administrative agencies and university practitioners for the future evaluation of commercializing original technologies.Item type:Item, Industrial Cluster Development and its Contribution to Economic Growth in Taiwan - Hsinchu Science and Industrial Park (HSIP)(2017-05-01) ;Lee, S. J. ;Lin, Grace T. R. ;Hsi, P. H. ;科技管理研究所Institute of Management of TechnologyThe development of industrial cluster plays a significant role in the growth of national industries, and the industrial cluster development indeed makes a great impact on the progression of national industries, especially in developing countries. Under the fiercely global trends in competition, industrial cluster has been identified as an important strategy to keep the development of regional industries in a sustainable trajectory, and a good implementation of industrial cluster usually reflects on the cluster region carrying within a large number of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs). Through the clustering of businesses and industries, the corresponding geographical proximity, and the promotion of mutual support and learning, businesses and industries located in the cluster region can further acquire the advantages of Economy of Scale and those of Economy of Scope. Meanwhile, the successful experience of Hsinchu Science and Industrial Park (HSIP) has become a good model for many countries to learn the development of Science Park, and the most contribution of HSIP is transforming the labour-intensive industries to talent-intensive industries. Also, it directly promotes the development of high-technology industries in a sustainable trajectory. Most important of all, the success of HSIP created the so-called "Taiwan Economic Miracle" in the later twentieth century, and it led Taiwan to be one of "Four Asian Tigers".Item type:Item, The Development of Artificial Life and Its Relationship with Artificial Intelligence(2017-10-01) ;Lee, S. J. ;Lin, Grace T. R. ;Li, C. ;Hsi, P. H.科技管理研究所Artificial life (also known as AL) is an interdisciplinary study of life-like processes that applies the synthetic methodology instead of analysis methodology to observe the living process of living systems in the artificial environment and make the essential property of emergent behaviors clear. Meanwhile, artificial life is also a field of living system research which is jointly associated with biology, life science, computer science, and philosophy. In addition, the nature of artificial life is not only established on the study of "life-as-we-know-it", but also that of "life-as-it-might-be". In that, the fundamental property of natural living systems can be effectively discovered by the comprehensive process based on "life-as-it-might-be". Moreover, the study of artificial life cannot only bring the contribution to explain the living behaviours and explore the origin of life, but it also provides a new approach to biological research.
