Item type:Item, Pseudospectral Modeling of Nano-Optics in Ag Sphere Arrays(2010-10-01) ;Lin, Bang-Yan ;Teng, Chun-Hao ;Chang, Hung-Chun ;Hsiao, Hui-HsinWang, Juen-KaiWe report a Legendre pseudospectral modeling of silver sphere arrays illuminated by light waves. A special feature of the present computation is that the dispersive nature of silver is described by a Drude-Lorentz model with model parameters obtained by fitting the frequency-domain complex-valued dielectric constants measured experimentally. Numerical validations are conducted based on solving both the near and far fields of the Mie scattering problem, and we observe good convergence on the numerical fields. The far-field patterns of the Ag sphere arrays are simulated. The results are compared to those obtained by the dipole-coupling-model method, and we observe very good agreement between these results. The near-field patterns are also computed, and localized enhanced electric fields in the inter-particle gap regions due to plasmonic coupling between Ag particles are visualized. As the gap between Ag particles is reduced the strength of the localized enhanced electric field is increased.Item type:Item, Pseudospectral Modeling of Nano-Optics in Ag Sphere Arrays(2010-10-01) ;Lin, Bang-Yan ;Teng, Chun-Hao ;Chang, Hung-Chun ;Hsiao, Hui-HsinWang, Juen-KaiWe report a Legendre pseudospectral modeling of silver sphere arrays illuminated by light waves. This approach offers a direct relationship between the evolution of the LSPR spectral line and the depolarization components in an analogous sense to a harmonic oscillator. The static, dynamic, and radiative terms reflect the coefficients of the "stiffness", effective mass, and damping in the oscillator system, respectively. Hence, one can immediately perceive that the static part of the depolarization factor is mainly responsible for the shifts in the resonant frequency, and the radiative part is responsible for the change in bandwidth. Additionally, the dynamic part behaves like an effective mass, acting as an inertial weighting factor that decides how significant the changes taking place in the system are. From this model, we can rationalize that the qualitative behavior of the far-field efficiency primarily depends on the shifting resonant frequencies, and the corresponding near-field efficiency is highly sensitive to the presence of damping. The model also clarifies the discrepancy in the resonant frequency and bandwidth between the far- and near-field spectra, which is due to the significant presence of the radiative component. These basic descriptions can be used as a guiding principle for handling more sophisticated structures and gaining more rationalized designs for novel applications related to the LSPR mechanism.Item type:Item, Second Harmonic Light Manipulation with Vertical Split Ring Resonators(2019-02-15) ;Tsai, Wei-Yi ;Chung, Tsung Lin ;Hsiao, Hui-Hsin ;Chen, Jia-WernLin, Ren JieThe second harmonic generation (SHG) of vertical and planar split-ring resonators (SRRs) that are broken centro-symmetry configurations at the interface of metal surface and air is investigated. Strong interactions, better electromagnetic field confinements, and less leakage into the substrate for vertical SRRs are found. Experimental results show a 2.6-fold enhancement of SHG nonlinearity, which is in good agreement with simulations and calculations. Demonstrations of 3D metastructures and vertical SRRs with strong SHG nonlinearity majorly result from magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole clearly provides potential applications for photonics and sensing.
