Item type:Item, Co-doping with polysquaraine enhances the holographic optical data storage of PMMA/PQ photopolymers(2011) ;Ko, Cheng-Jung ;Chang, Yeh-Lu ;Hsiao, Yi-Nan ;Chen, Po-LinLin, Shiuan-HueiIn this study, we synthesised poly(3-octylpyrrole-co-squaric acid) (PSQ3), a polysquaraine, through the reaction of 3-octylpyrrole and squaric acid, and then co-doped it with phenanthrenequinone (PQ) into poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) to improve the holographic data storage characteristics of the photopolymer. The photopolymers co-doped with relatively small amounts of PSQ3 exhibited greatly improved holographic recording characteristics, including superior diffraction efficiency and dynamic range (M#). Among the samples co-doped with PQ and PSQ3, the maximum diffraction efficiency reached 54.8% (cf. 9.0% for PMMA/PQ) without further downgrade and the value of M# reached 1.05 (cf. 0.46 for PMMA/PQ). Therefore, the holographic data storage characteristics of the photopolymer PMMA/PQ were improved through co-doping with PSQ3.Item type:Item, Doped photopolymers for volume holographic applications(2006-01-01) ;Lin, Shiuan Huei ;Lin, June-Hua ;Hsiao, Yi-Nan ;Hsu, Ken Y.材料科學與工程學系We fabricate two phenanthrenequinone-doped copolymers which can improve the holographic recording characteristics of phenanthrenequinone-doped poly(methyl-methacrylate) (PQ/PMMA) photopolymer. In these materials, the polymer matrix of PQ/PMMA is modified to be copolymers, which composed of either poly(methyl-methacrylate-co-trimethylolpropane-triacrylate) or poly(methyl-methacrylate-co-acrylic acid 2-phenoxyethyl ester), respectively. With the chemical analyses of these materials before and after light exposure, we investigate the physical mechanism of the holographic recording in those copolymer samples. In addition, the holographic characteristics of different samples, including dynamic range and sensitivity, have been measured. These experimental results demonstrate that modification of the monomers is an efficient method to improve the material properties.Item type:Item, Doped photopolymers for volume holographic applications - art. no. 631407(2006) ;Lin, Shiuan Huei ;Lin, June-Hua ;Hsiao, Yi-Nan ;Hsu, Ken Y.光電工程學系We fabricate two phenanthrenequinone-doped copolymers which can improve the holographic recording characteristics of phenanthrenequinone-doped poly(methyl-methacrylate) (PQ/PMMA) photopolymer. Five different lanthanoid (Ce(3+), Nd(3+), Er(3+), Yb(3+) and Lu(3+)) organometallic compounds, one at a time, is co-doped with PQ in a poly(HEMA-co-MMA) matrix, respectively. Holographic experiments demonstrate that lutetium organometallic compounds and a PQ co-doped poly(HEMA-co-MMA) photopolymer can greatly enhance the volume holographic characteristics. The degree of improvement in hologram diffraction efficiency and the recording dynamic range for these co-doped photopolymers follows the order: Lu(3+) > Yb(3+) > Er(3+) > Nd(3+) > Ce(3+).Item type:Item, Environment-Dependent Ultrafast Photoisomerization Dynamics in Azo Dye(2011-10-27) ;Hsu, Chun-Chih ;Wang, Yu-Ting ;Yabushita, Atsushi ;Luo, Chih-WeiHsiao, Yi-NanAzoaromatic dyes have been extensively investigated over the past decade due to their potential use in a variety of optical devices that exploit their ultrafast photoisomerization processes. Among the azoaromatic dyes, Disperse Red 19 is a commercially available azobenzene nonlinear optical chromophore with a relatively high ground-state dipole moment. In the present study, we used ultrafast time-resolved spectroscopy to clarify the dynamics of a push-pull substituted azobenzene dye. Solution and film samples exhibited different ultrafast dynamics, indicating that the molecular environment affects the photoisomerization dynamics of the dye.Item type:Item, Fabrication and characterization of poly(methyl methacrylate) photopolymer doped with 9,10-phenanthrenequinone (PQ) based derivatives for volume holographic data storage(2008-02-15) ;Lin, Shiuan-Huei ;Chen, Po-Lin ;Hsiao, Yi-Nan ;Whang, Wha-Tzong材料科學與工程學系We present our studies on the photopolymer of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) doped with 9,10-phenanthrenequinone based derivatives for volume holographic storage. By introducing different functional groups on the side-chain of 9,10-phenanthrenequinone molecule, the holographic characteristics of the material can be modified. The photoreaction involved with the holographic recording in the samples was investigated by measuring UV-Vis absorption spectrum and mass spectrum. The experimental results show that the similar behaviors were exhibited in these photopolymers. It is found that phase hologram recording in our PQ derivatives doped PMMA photopolymer involves a structure change of the quinone based molecule, which induces a strong change of the refractive index. Experimental characterizations on holographic data storage, including material sensitivity, dynamic range (M#) and bit-error-rate have been performed. We found that, by selecting appropriate functional groups, an improvement in sensitivity and M# for holographic data storage can be achieved. (c) 2007 Elsevier B.V. A technique for fabricating thick samples of 2mm thick is described. The optical and holographic characteristics of the samples are experimentally investigated. The results show that by adding ZnMA, the material M/# and sensitivity for holographic recording have been improved.Item type:Item, Holographic recording characteristics and physical mechanism of zinc methacrylate/nitroaniline-co-doped poly(methyl methacrylate)/9,10-phenanthrenequinone photopolymers(2013-06-01) ;Ko, Cheng-Jung ;Chen, Po-Lin ;Hsiao, Yi-Nan ;Lin, Shiuan-HueiWhang, Wha-TzongIn this study we developed an approach to improve the characteristics of photopolymers for holographic data storage. Through codoping different compounds, N,N-dimethyl-4-nitroaniline (DMNA) and zinc methylacrylate (Zn(MA)2), into 9,10-phenanthrenequinone (PQ) doped poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), the diffraction efficiency and the value of dynamic range (M#) have been progressed. We enhanced the diffraction efficiency (from 36.1 to 86.2%) and the dynamic range (M#, from 2.9 to 10.7) of PQ-doped PMMA through codoping with DMNA and Zn(MA)2. Using mass spectrometry and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, we investigated the mechanism behind the improvements in optical storage induced by the presence of Zn(MA)2 and DMNA in PMMA/PQ. POLYM. The maximum diffraction efficiency (?max) and dynamic range (M#) of 9,10-phenanthrenequinone (PQ)-doped poly(methyl methacrylate; PMMA) both improved significantly after co-doping with one of three nitroanilinesN,N-dimethyl-4-nitroaniline (DMNA), N-methyl-4-nitroaniline (MNA), and 4-nitroaniline (pNA). In particular, the value of ?max increased from 38% for the PMMA/PQ system to 72% for the PMMA/PQ/DMNA system (a 1.89-fold improvement) and the value of M# increased accordingly from 2.7 to 7.3 (a 2.70-fold improvement). Thus, the holographic data storage characteristics of PMMA/PQ photopolymers can be improved through co-doping with nitroaniline compounds. We also investigated the mechanism of the nitroaniline-induced improvement in optical storage performance using proton nuclear magnetic resonance and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. After silylation with 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexamethyldisilazane (HMDS), the silylated fluoro-organosilicasol further transformed the PI surface into a superhydrophobic state with a static water contact angle of greater than 1600 and a low hysteresis of 10 degrees. We examined the mechanism behind the enhancement in superhydrophobicity through analyses of the surface topology and chemical composition of the films, using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis (ESCA). These analyses suggested that both surface roughness and silylation of the fluoro-organosilicasol making more CF2 groups on the outmost surface rendered the surface hydrophobicity. The anticorrosion properties of these superhydrophobic coatings were also examined through Tafel measurement. These PI hybrid coatings demonstrated lower corrosion current density and nobler corrosion potential and higher polarization resistance. The enhancement in anticorrosion performance was believed to be contributed from the superhydrophobicity and dual barrier protection from the fully-covered fluoro-organosilicasol, insulating the metal from corrosive species in the medium. This superhydrophobic coating technique with good stability guaranteed better corrosion protection and also has great potential for application to other polymeric films. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. The PQ-doped PMMA was exposed to an Ar/Kr tunable laser at the wavelength of 488 nm and measured by a HeNe laser (632.8 nm). We measured the induced birefringence and the variation of the refractive index separately during exposure; there was a difference of three orders of magnitude between these two effects. This suggested that the physical mechanism of holographic recording in PQ-doped PMMA is mainly due to the photo-induced variation in the refractive index. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
