Item type:Item, IoT patent roadmap for smart logistic service provision in the context of Industry 4.0(2017-01-01) ;Trappey, Amy J. C. ;Trappey, Charles V. ;Fan, Chin-Yuan ;Hsu, Abby P. T.Li, Xuan-KaiIndustry 4.0 enables the management of factories manufacturing products with complexity and flexibility. The corresponding logistic services must provide greater accuracy and efficiency in logistic operations. The Internet of Things (IoT) is an important aspect for smart logistics in the context of Industry 4.0. For instance, intelligent logistics models use IoT integrated technologies, e.g. radio frequency identification (RFID), wireless sensor network (WSN) and cloud computing, to enhance the traceability and decision supports of logistic processes in real-time speed, high accuracy, and flexibility. This research focuses on analyzing the related technology roadmaps for the adoption of IoT technologies in smart logistic services. A case research is conducted specifically to identify the relationship between IoT-oriented technologies and deployed advanced logistic services. The logistic operations are organized into an ontology schema based on a four level service framework. The research proposes a roadmap approach to visualize the patent allocations and evolutions corresponding to logistic services at each level. Although the patent roadmap methodology is generic, this research focuses on the two industry leaders, which are UPS and IBM. Using the roadmap methodology, the IoT enabled smart logistic patents are analyzed to identify technologyrelated business strengths and strategies.Item type:Item, Patent Portfolio Analysis of E-payment Services Using Technical Ontology Roadmaps(2016-01-01) ;Trappey, Amy J. C. ;Hsu, Abby P. T. ;Trappey, Charles V. ;管理科學系Department of Management ScienceElectronic payment (e-payment) is a subset of an e-commerce (EC) and critical to enhance customer loyalty. A well-designed e-payment service creates new commercial advantage and should be protected as intellectual property. This research develops an ontology roadmap using computer assisted methods to classify e-payment patents. The results of roadmap provide patent portfolio visualization which helps EC enterprises utilize strategic information for competitive advantages. This research also employs patent value indicators to benchmark patent portfolios. In the case implementation, two leading EC enterprises, Amazon and Alibaba, are studied using their e-payment patents as input to implement the proposed methodology. The roadmaps and value assessment results help to describe their underlying competitive advantages and provide management implications for business development.Item type:Item, The Improved Global Supply Chain Material Management Process Framework for One-Stop Logistic Services(2015-01-01) ;Hsu, Abby P. T. ;Chang, Ai-Che ;Trappey, Amy J. C. ;Trappey, Charles V.Lee, W. T.This research focuses on the material procurement process improvement of a manufacturer under one-stop logistic services and proposes a to-be process offering a vendor-managed inventory (VMI) and information integration services provided by one-stop logistic services providers (1SLP) for shortening the procurement and manufacturing lead time, and enhancing the information flow accuracy and transparency. The 1SLP is an integrator that assembles the resources, capabilities, and technologies of supply chain networks to design and implement comprehensive logistic solutions. The research develops the 1SLP process framework by dividing the service scope into four service models. We use a case example to demonstrate the improved process. The case company is a leading manufacturer in producing projectors for the global market. The current material procurement process causes long lead times, delays the manufacturing process, and does not integrate all information in the supply chain. In the to-be model, a 1SLP incorporated model 2 services and provides a VMI warehouse as a value-added service and integrated information platform to ensure the buyer\'s inventory level and implements appropriate logistics optimization for efficient delivery. The AnyLogic Simulation Software is used to model the current and the to-be business processes. The comparison between the as-is and the to-be models demonstrates that the improved material procurement process increases the current process\'s efficiency under the one-stop services without impeding product availability to the target market.Item type:Item, Using Ontology-Based Patent Informatics to Describe the Intellectual Property Portfolio of an E-Commerce Order Fulfillment Process(2015-01-01) ;Hsu, Abby P. T. ;Trappey, Charles V. ;Trappey, Amy J. C. ;管理科學系Department of Management ScienceElectronic commerce (EC) is the process of selling and buying goods or services through an online platform used for conducting the necessary business communications and transactions for sellers and buyers over the Internet. EC companies sell products online with an emphasis on running the entire supply chain process efficiently. The business processes, that enterprises use to conduct e-commerce business, are quite valuable and can be treated as intellectual properties (IPs). Business method patents provide inventors and enterprises with protection for the unique business process. The United States provides business method patent owners an exclusive IP right for 20 years. A good quality business method patent is considered a powerful and effective tool to generate revenue and bar potential competitors from duplicating the practices. Patent analysis can assist companies in evaluating their business strategies or redesign their business processes. Grouping patent documents and defining a domain ontology helps companies describe technology trends and innovations. This research uses Amazon\'s business processes as a case example to conduct business method patent analysis, particularly considering order fulfillment as a key method to manage inventory and purchase orders. An EC ontology schema is constructed based on the key EC business processes and key-phrase extraction from the patents. Understanding Amazon\'s patents and their relationships to the business process, other EC enterprises can examine their own patents\' strategic strengths and weaknesses. In addition, they can prevent their business processes not to infringe upon existing EC patents.Item type:Item, Using System Dynamics Analysis for Performance Evaluation of IoT Enabled One-Stop Logistic Services(2014) ;Hsu, Abby P. T. ;Lee, W. T. ;Trappey, Amy J. C. ;Chang, Ai-CheTrappey, Charles V.This research focuses on a methodology applying Internet of Things (IoT) technology and enabling the material procurement process improvement of a manufacturer. The one-stop logistic service provider (1SLP) is an integrator that assembles the resources, capabilities, and technologies of supply chain networks to design and implement comprehensive logistic service solutions. This research develops the IoT enabled 1SLP process framework and uses a case example to demonstrate the improved process with a system dynamic (SD) assessment. The current material procurement process of the case requires excessive operation times and the related data do not integrate with the supply chain related information. The 1SLP offers to-be (improved) logistics support incorporating IoT to shorten the operational time and enhance the information flow accurately and transparently. For the SD assessment, the results show that the to-be model improves the IoT process efficiency with the IoT when benchmarked with the as-is current processes.Item type:Item, Using System Dynamics Analysis for Performance Evaluation of IoT Enabled One-Stop Logistic Services(2015-01-01) ;Hsu, Abby P.
