Item type:Item, A Power Sensor Tag With Interference Reduction for Electricity Monitoring of Two-Wire Household Appliances(2014-04-01) ;Chen, Yung-Chang ;Hsu, Wei-Hung ;Cheng, Shih-Hsien ;Cheng, Yu Ting電子工程學系及電子研究所This paper demonstrates a flexible nonintrusive power sensor tag with an interference reduction scheme for accurate electricity monitoring of the household appliances using typical SPT-2 18 AWG zip-cord power lines. Both current and voltage sensors with the design of a 50-turn inductive coil and two capacitive electrodes, respectively, in an area of 1.3 x 1 cm(2) are fabricated on a 100-mu m-thick flexible polyethylene terephthalate substrate as a sensor tag. The tag exhibits a sensitivity of 271.6 mV/A and 0.38 mV/V via active low-pass filter circuits for the current and voltage detection. A compensation circuit inputted with the signals of the voltage sensor is applied for the interference reduction of the current sensor electrically coupled with the power cord so that the current sensor can achieve over a 40-dB signal-to-noise ratio for measuring the loaded current of 1 A, 60 Hz on the power line.Item type:Item, Flexible Electret Energy Harvester with Copper Mesh Electrodes(2014-01-01) ;Chiu, Yi ;Lee, Ming Hsuan ;Hsu, Wei-Hung ;電機資訊學士班Undergraduate Honors Program of Electrical Engineering and Computer ScienceFlexible energy harvesters are desired in biomedical applications since human motion is often complicated and aperiodic. However, most demonstrated flexible energy harvesters employ piezoelectric materials which are not biocompatible. Therefore we propose a PDMS-based flexible energy harvester with Parylene-C electret suitable for biomedical applications. To address the reliability issues of sputtered metal electrodes, we use copper mesh electrodes to improve the reliability. The proposed flexible harvester was fabricated and characterized. The measured power of the proposed harvester was 3.33 mu W in the compression tests at 20 Hz and 8.5 nW in the finger bending tests at 2 Hz.Item type:Item, MONOLITHIC NI-ELECTROPLATED MICROSTRUCTURE AND ITS APPLICATION IN MICRO MIRRORS AND MICRO ASSEMBLY(2014-01-01) ;Chiu, Yi ;Lai, Wen-Ching ;Chang, Chun-Hao ;Chang, Chun-PoChen, Ching-HungThis paper presents micro mirrors and micro assembly mechanisms fabricated by monolithic nickel electroplating. Multiple nickel structural layers were electroplated and patterned with copper as the sacrificial material. A novel side latch design was proposed and demonstrated for 3D micro assembly of micro mirrors by simple push operation of micro probes. Micro mirrors was assembled in about 15 sec in laboratory tests. The resonance frequency of the scanning mode of a stand-alone micro mirror was measured to be 4.753 kHz with a quality factor of about 470.Item type:Item, Nonlinear electromagnetic energy harvesters fabricated by rigid-flex printed circuit board technology(2015-01-01) ;Chiu, Yi ;Hong, Hao-Chiao ;Hsu, Wei-Hung ;電機工程學系Department of Electrical and Computer EngineeringIn this paper, a wideband electromagnetic energy harvester designed and fabricated by commercial rigid-flex PCB technology is demonstrated. The rigid FR-4 boards are used for mechanical frames and coil winding whereas the flexible polyimide film is used for mechanical springs and mass platforms. The total dimension of the device is 20 x 20 x 2 mm(3). The internal coil resistance is 15 Omega In vibration tests, nonlinearity can be observed even at 0.1 g vibration level due to the spring hardening effect. The peak frequency was increased as the vibration level increased. The effective bandwidth was increased from 6 Hz at 0.1 g to 21 Hz at 0.5 g and 27 Hz at 1 g, respectivel, due to the hysteresis effect. For a matched load and 1 g vibration at 240 Hz, the maximum output power is 24.5 nW, corresponding to a power density of 31 nW/cm(3).Item type:Item, Sensitivity Enhancement of the Flexible Inductive Coil Tag Using Magnetic C-Clamp Stripes for the Current Detection of Household Two-Wire Power Lines(2012) ;Chen, Yung-Chang ;Hsu, Wei-Hung ;Cheng, Shih-Hsien ;Cheng, Yu-Ting電子工程學系及電子研究所This paper presents a sensitivity enhancement scheme for the flexible inductive coil tag used for the current detection of household two-wire power lines. Experimental results show that the inductive coil tag can exhibit a larger induced voltage by the introduction of the magnetic C-clamp stripes that can guide and concentrate the magnetic flux in the center area of the inductive coil. For a 30-turns inductive coil, the incorporation of a 2 mu m thick Ni and NiFe C-clamp stripes with 14.5 mm in length and similar to 20 mu m in height onto the coil can provide 15.5% and 37.2% sensitivity enhancement, respectively, for detecting 1A, 60Hz electric current flow in a SPT-2 16AWG power line.Item type:Item, The Methodology in the Accuracy Improvement of the Flexible Current Sensing Coil Tag for Household Two-Wire Power Lines(2015-10-01) ;Lin, Chen-Hsuan ;Cheng, Yu-Ting ;Chen, Yung-Chang ;Fu, Yu-MinHsu, Wei-HungThe paper presents the methodology including the deployment of a structure comprising of C-clamp magnetic stripes and a self-calibration scheme using a four-coil design to resolve the issues of the interference and misplacement problems existing in the flexible nonintrusive current sensor tag for the current detection of household two-wire power lines. Experimental results show that the stripe structure can effectively screen out the magnetic flux originating from the nearby power line for the reduction of sensing error caused by the electromagnetic field interference and the calibration scheme containing the correction of horizontal misplacement and the analysis of power cable thickness via the four-coil design can provide the information of sensor location for accurate current sensing. Less than 4% of sensing error indicates that the proposed methodology can indeed facilitate the flexible current sensor tag for practical use.Item type:Item, Wideband vibrational electromagnetic energy harvesters with nonlinear polyimide springs based on rigid-flex printed circuit boards technology(2016-12) ;Chiu, Yi ;Hong, Hao-Chiao ;Hsu, Wei-Hung ;電機工程學系Department of Electrical and Computer EngineeringA wideband vibrational electromagnetic energy harvester employing nonlinear spring effects is proposed and demonstrated. The harvesters were designed and fabricated by commercial rigid-flex printed circuit boards technology. Rigid FR-4 boards were used for mechanical support and coil winding, whereas flexible polyimide films were patterned for mechanical springs and mass platforms. Two sets of coils were patterned and fabricated in the harvester with an internal coil resistance of about 16 Omega each. Two rare-earth magnets were attached to the central platform as shuttle mass. The total dimension of the harvester was 20. x. 20. x. 4mm(3). In vibration tests, nonlinearity could be observed even at 0.1 g(rms) vibration level due to the spring hardening effect. The frequency for peak induced voltage increased from 187 Hz at low vibration to 382 Hz at 5 grms vibration. The effective half-power bandwidth increased from 8 Hz at 0.1 grms to 32 Hz at 1 grms and 52 Hz at 5 grms due to the hysteresis in frequency response. For a matched load and 1 grms vibration at 250 Hz, the maximum output power was 160 nW, corresponding to a power density of 100 nW cm(-3).
