Item type:Item, A buffer-feedback rate control method for video streaming over mobile communication systems(2005) ;Tseng, LC ;Chuang, HC ;Huang, CY ;Chiang, T電子工程學系及電子研究所In a wireless video streaming service system, the receiver reports its required rate in the reverse link for each transmission. A data buffer is often installed in the receiver to stabilize the multimedia play-out rate. This buffer may underflow if there is a shortage of content. Simply increasing the transmission rates may cause resource problems. A more delicate way is trying to control the transmission rate when necessary. In this paper, a transmission rate control method utilizing the receiver buffer fullness level and the frame error rate (FER) information is proposed. Simulation results demonstrate the proposed control provides better play-out quality with reasonable system resources consumption.Item type:Item, A model for low-temperature operation of minority-carrier well-type guard rings in epitaxial CMOS structures(1998-03-01) ;Huang, CY ;Chen, MJ ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsAs temperature is lowered, behaviors of well-type guard rings in an epitaxial substrate are quite different from those at RT so that the previous formulation is unable to reflect these discrepancies precisely. This leads to a new escape-current model suitable for low-temperature applications. In addition to the structural parameters, the new model is also functions of other physical quantities such as temperature, high-level injection, surface recombination velocity at the high/low junction and minority-carrier transport parameters, which are also important at low temperature. Approximately 6000-fold purification and a 40% yield of fish imidase activity were obtained through ammonium sulfate precipitation, octyl, chelating, DEAE, and hydroxyapatite chromatography. This cold-adapted imidase was characterized by a specific activity 10- to a 100-fold higher than those of its thermophilic counterparts below room temperature (25 degreesC or lower) conditions but less stable at elevated temperatures (40 degreesC or higher). A less organized helical structure (compared to those of pig liver and bacterial imidases) was observed by circular dichroism. Furthermore, maleimide was first identified as a novel substrate of all imidases examined, and confirmed by HPLC and NMR analysis. These results constituted a first study to discover a novel cold-adapted imidase with surprising high activity. These findings might be also helpful for industrial application of imidase. The social mirror identity concept was established to integrate human long-distance movement and daily visits to fixed locations. After showing that the model is capable of displaying such small-world effects as low degree of separation and relatively high degree of clustering on a societal level, the authors offer proof of its ability to display R-o properties-considered central to all epidemiological studies. To test their model, they simulated the 2003 severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) outbreak.Item type:Item, A simple Dufort-Frankel-type scheme for the Gross-Pitaevskii equation of Bose-Einstein condensates on different geometries(2004-07-01) ;Lai, MC ;Huang, CY ;Lin, TS ;應用數學系Department of Applied MathematicsWe develop a simple Dufort-Frankel-type scheme for solving the time-dependent Gross-Pitaevskii equation (GPE). The GPE is a nonlinear Schrodinger equation describing the Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) at very low temperature. Three different geometries including 1D spherically symmetric, 2D cylindrically symmetric, and 3D anisotropic Cartesian domains are considered. The present finite difference method is explicit, linearly unconditional stable and is able to handle the coordinate singularities in a natural way. Furthermore, the scheme is time reversible and satisfies a discrete analogue of density conservation law. An adaptive scheduler control algorithm is provided to explore the tradeoff between the system throughput and different user fairness in both the average number of assigned slots and average transmission rates. We will show even though it is difficult to achieve an unique optimum point to satisfy all design criteria, there exists an operator-defined optimality if the priorities of different design criteria are chosen. All performance will be quantified based on 1xEV-DO technologies.Item type:Item, Adaptive timer-based TCP control algorithm for wireless system(2005) ;Lou, WY ;Huang, CY ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsItem type:Item, Advanced handoff controls in third generation CDMA wireless systems(2004) ;Huang, CY ;Tsai, MY ;Huang, J ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsIn a wireless communication system, there exits it non-linear relationship among the connection quality, the overall interference level, and the required resources. To meet the handoff design challenges in 3G systems, we will demonstrate the need of having a flexible handoff control algorithm. The proposed algorithms will be evaluated again other existing handoff algorithms based on the performance of the connection quality, the forward-link power budget, the channel element usage, and the handoff frequency.Item type:Item, Allocation and scheduling algorithms for IEEE 802.14 and MCNS in hybrid fiber coaxial networks(1998-12-01) ;Lin, YD ;Huang, CY ;Yin, WM ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceIEEE 802.14 and MCNS are two standards developed for the Hybrid Fiber Coaxial (HFC) CATV networks. Both standards model an upstream channel as a stream of minislots. But their philosophies on resolving collisions in the shared upstream channel are rather different, where IEEE 802.14 adopts the priority+FIFO first-transmission rule and the n-ary tree retransmission rule, and MCNS adopts the binary exponential backoff algorithm with adjustable window sizes. Both provide reservation access, while IEEE 802.14 and MCNS also support isochronous aceess and immediate access, respectively. In this paper, we try to prepare a suggestion list for vendors on how to allocate minislots for reservation aceess and immediate access and how to schedule the reserved bandwidth, which greatly affect the performance of a cable network and are left open by the standards.Item type:Item, Allocation and scheduling algorithms for IEEE 802.14 and MCNS in hybrid fiber coaxial networks(1998-12-01) ;Lin, YD ;Huang, CY ;Yin, WM ;資訊工程學系Department of Computer ScienceIEEE 802.14 and MCNS are two standards developed for the Hybrid Fiber Coaxial (HFC) CATV networks. Latchup issues existed at only three output pins, two of which belonged to the top and the other to the side. The layouts of top and bottom output pins are identical, and side output pins have another identical layouts. In our experiments it was found latchup of two top output pins were originated from the latchup of the side output pin, and therefore heat-induced latchup aggravation issue must be noticed during latchup test. Furthermore, large power line current (Idd) existed during triggering this side output pin and led to subsequent latchup. After thorough layout inspection, the layout of this side output pin is identical to all other side output pins except that it has an additional N-well (NW) resistor of gate-triggered high-voltage PMOS beside. It was later proved by engineering experiments that this NW resistor is the origin of inducing latchup in this product, and a new mechanism was proposed for this latchup failure. Improvements and solutions were also provided to successfully solve the latchup issues of these three output pins. (C) 2003 Elsevier Ltd. Thus, the feasibility of a planned path from a CAD system is assured before the path is sent for execution. The proposed scheme imposes a geometrical analysis on a given robot manipulator and obstacles. Consequently, geometrical information describing the robot workspace, obstacles and the planned path can be derived. Then, by utilizing path modification strategies appropriate to various industrial tasks, the planned path can be modified so that it is kinematically feasible and collision-free and satisfies task requirements. The analyses in this paper are based on multiple arbitrarily-shaped obstacles and general non-redundant wrist-partitioned types of robot manipulators in which the joint axes are either perpendicular or parallel to one another. For demonstration, simulations based on using the PUMA 560 robot manipulator to perform different tasks in the presence of obstacles were conducted. Substrate specificity, metal content and amino-acid sequence all differ significantly between bacterial and mammalian imide-hydrolyzing enzymes. In this study, a thermophilic imidase was isolated from pig liver and crystallized. Two kinds of imidase crystals were grown by the hanging-drop vapour-diffusion method using polyethylene glycol MME 5000 and 2-propanol as precipitants. One belongs to the triclinic P-1 space group, with unit-cell parameters a = 96.35, b = 96.87, c = 154.87 Angstrom, alpha = 82.10, beta = 72.54, gamma = 77.19degrees, and the other belongs to the orthorhombic C222(1) space group, with unit-cell parameters a = 113.92, b = 157.22, c = 156.21 Angstrom.Item type:Item, Degradation of passivated and non-passivated N-channel low-temperature polycrystalline silicon TFTs prepared by excimer laser processing(2002-08-01) ;Teng, TH ;Huang, CY ;Chang, TK ;Lin, CWCheng, LJThe instability mechanisms of passivated and non-passivated low-temperature polycrystalline silicon thin film transistors (LTPS TFTs) under various bias stress conditions have been investigated. Irrespective of plasma treatment, the degradation was more severe under negative gate bias stress than that under positive gate bias stress. This could be due to Fowler-Nordheim tunneling electron induced impact ionization. For hot carrier stress, TFTs with NH3 plasma treatment degraded more severely than those without plasma treatment. This might be attributed to collapsing of weak Si-H bonds in NH3-plasma passivated devices. For the high current stress, it showed the opposite results against hot carrier stress. Trade-off between the two must be properly adjusted to realize ESD/latchup robustness of IC products. A case study on SERIAL Input/Output (I/O) IC's is reported here to reveal this ESD/latchup optimization issue. SERIAL I/O IC features a special clamping property to wake up PC's during system standby situation. Along with high voltage operation, Input/Output (I/O) protection design of this IC becomes one of the most challenging tasks in the product reliability development. In the initial development phase, ignorance of latchup susceptibility resulted in severe Electrical Overstress (EOS) damage during latchup tests, and also gave a false over estimate of ESD protection threshold through parasitic latchup paths. The latchup origin is an output PMOS and floating-well ESD triggering NMOS beside the PMOS, and the main fatal link is this high-voltage (HV) NMOS connecting to a bi-directional SCR cell. This fatal link led to totally five latchup sites and three latchup paths clarified through careful and intensive FIB failure analysis, while this powerful SCR ESD device without appropriate triggering mechanism still could not provide sufficient product-level ESD hardness. Owing to there being no design window between ESD and latchup, the original several protection schemes were all abandoned. Using this bi-directional SCR ESD cell and proper triggering PNP bipolar transistors, a new I/O protection circuit could sustain at least ESD/HBM 4 kV and latchup triggering current 150 mA tests, thus accomplish the best optimization of ESD/latchup robustness. An enzyme possessing N-iminylamidase activity from pig liver was purified to electrophoretic homogeneity. This enzyme was also active, however, with imides and appears to be identical to pig liver imidase. The identification was confirmed by copurification of enzyme activities and by specificities of typical substrates of mammalian imidase, such as phthalimide, dihydrouracil, and maleimide. The hydrolysis of 3-iminoisoindolinone was further analyzed by HPLC, C-13 NMR spectrometry, and LC-MS measurements to determine its chemicoselectivity. All data indicated that this enzyme chemicoselectively catalyzed the hydrolysis of the N-iminylamide to produce the compound bearing the diamine and carboxylate group. The pH profiles of this enzyme suggest that one of the protons of 3-iminoisoindolinone was important to promote the ring-opening process of this substrate. These results constituted a first study on the enzymatic hydrolysis of compounds bearing the N-iminylamide functional group. (c) 2004 Elsevier Inc. Excess carriers from thermal-generation electron-hole pairs or photoexcited electron-hole pairs may significantly influence the instability of a-SM TFTs during bias stress. The instability mechanisms originate from the carrier-induced defect Creation enhanced by thermal generation in the BTS case and also emphasized by photoexcitation for the BIS case. Both stress conditions will induce a larger threshold voltage shift and higher cutoff frequency than those for simple bias stresses.Item type:Item, Effects of NH3 plasma passivation on N-channel polycrystalline silicon thin-film transistors(1997-01-01) ;Cheng, HC ;Wang, FS ;Huang, CY ;奈米中心Nano Facility CenterThe NH3-plasma passivation has been performed on polycrystalline silicon (poly-Si) thin-film transistors (TFT's). It is found that the TFT's after the NH3-plasma passivation achieve better device performance, including the off-current below 0.1 pA/mu m and the on/off current ratio higher than 10(8), and also better hot-carrier reliability than the H-2-plasma ones. Based on optical emission spectroscopy (OES) and secondary ion mass spectroscopy (SIMS) analysis, these improvements were attributed to not only the hydrogen passivation of the defect states, but also the nitrogen pile-up at SiO2/poly-Si interface and the strong Si-N bond formation to terminate the dangling bonds at the grain boundaries of the polysilicon films. Furthermore, the gate-oxide leakage current significantly decreases and the oxide breakdown voltage slightly increases after applying NH3-plasma treatment. This novel process is of potential use for the fabrication of TFT/LCD's and TFT/SRAM's.
