Item type:Item, A stochastic cost efficiency analysis of international tourist hotels in Taiwan(2010-03-01) ;Hu, Jin-Li ;Chiu, Chia-Ning ;Shieh, Hwai-Shuh ;Huang, Chia-Hui管理科學系The one-stage stochastic frontier approach (SFA) is used in this study to simultaneously estimate cost efficiency scores and factors of cost inefficiency for 66 international tourist hotels in Taiwan during 1997-2006. An SFA model with three outputs and three inputs is defined. The three outputs are room revenue, food and beverage revenue, and other operation revenue while the three inputs are price of labor, price of other operation, and price of food and beverage. This model also takes into account five environmental variables, including dummy variable of the hotels located in non-metropolitan area, dummy variable of chain hotels, the number of tourist guides, the minimum distance from each hotel to Taoyuan international airport and the minimum distance from each hotel to Kaohsiung international airport. Empirical results show that international tourist hotels in Taiwan are on average operating at 91.15% cost efficiency. All nominal variables are transformed into real variables in 1997 prices by GDP deflators. Chain systems, tourist guides, and international transportation can significantly improve the cost efficiency of international tourist hotels in Taiwan. (C) 2009 Elsevier Ltd. For the last four decades, several techniques of formulating a piecewise linear function have been developed. By expressing a piecewise linear function with m+1 break points, the current method requires us to use m additional binary variables and 4m constraints, which causes heavy computation when m is large. This study proposes a superior way of expressing the same piecewise linear function, where only [log(2)m] binary variables and 8+8 [log(2)m] additive constraints are used. Various numerical experiments demonstrate that the proposed method is more computationally efficient than current methods.Item type:Item, Consumer attitudes toward online video advertisement: YouTube as a platform(2017-01-01) ;Yang, Keng-Chieh ;Huang, Chia-Hui ;Yang, Conna ;Yang, Su Yu資訊管理與財務金融系 註:原資管所+財金所Purpose - Online video advertisement is a wide-ranging phenomenon on the internet that provides huge opportunities for business enterprises. The revenues of website service providers come primarily from advertisement. However, it is rare to find research focusing on consumer attitudes toward online video advertisement. This study aims to investigate consumer attitudes toward advertisement while they are watching online videos on YouTube. Design/methodology/approach - The paper followed Brackett and Carr's (2001) Web Advertising Attitudes Model and combined it with the theory of reasoned action (TRA) and the flow theory. This study investigates consideration of the factors affecting attitudes toward advertisement and the influence on shopping intention and purchase behavior. Findings - The findings indicate that entertainment, informativeness, irritation and credibility have a shopping influence on purchase attitudes. Flow, on the other hand, does have an influence on shopping intention and purchase behavior. The discussion and conclusion have been further discussed. Originality/value - This study provides a comprehensive model for online video advertisement. This model was based on Brackett and Carr's model, combining the users and gratifications theory, TRA and flow theory to develop an online video advertisement model. Researchers can consider this model as a framework and use it to capture a more complete picture of the relevant phenomena in their works.Item type:Item, Cost Efficiency of International Tourist Hotels in Taiwan: A Data Envelopment Analysis Application(2009) ;Hu, Jin-Li ;Shieh, Hwai-Shuh ;Huang, Chia-Hui ;Chiu, Chia-Ning管理科學系This paper uses the data envelopment analysis approach to measure cost, allocative and overall technical efficiencies of international tourist hotels (ITHs) in Taiwan during 1997-2006. There are three outputs, three inputs, three input prices and four environmental variables in the empirical model. The cost inefficiency of these hotels is from overall technical inefficiency. International tourist hotels in Taiwan have an average efficiency of 57%. Chain systems, non-metropolitan areas and occupancy rate have significantly positive impacts on all efficiency scores of Taiwan's ITHs. The distance from the nearest international airport significantly worsens their efficiency scores.Item type:Item, Decision on enterprise computing solutions for an international tourism(2007-12-01) ;Huang, Chia-Hui ;Kao, Han-Ying ;Li, Han-Lin ;資訊管理與財務金融系 註:原資管所+財金所Department of Information Management and FinanceThis study proposes a multi-objective decision approach for evaluating the enterprise computing solutions in international tourism. We first analyze one tour operator in Thailand as well as its specific requirements for enterprise computations. In the decision processes for enterprise computation, several experts are invited to evaluate the alternatives based on a multi-tier electronic business architecture. This study designs two models for evaluating the information systems investments in international tourism. The first model maximizes the overall utility for each criterion, and the other model maximizes the utility for every expert. Because each alternative for enterprise computation involves approximate costs and efforts, we represent the cost data with fuzzy sets and possibility distributions.Item type:Item, Intelligent decision support based on influence diagrams with rough sets(2007) ;Huang, Chia-Hui ;Kao, Han-Ying ;Li, Han-Lin ;資訊管理與財務金融系 註:原資管所+財金所Department of Information Management and FinanceInfluence diagrams have been widely used as knowledge bases in business and engineering. In conventional influence diagrams, the numerical models of uncertainty are probability distributions associated with chance nodes and value tables for value nodes. However, when imprecise knowledge from large-scaled data set is involved in the systems, the suitability of probability distributions is questioned. This study proposes an alternative numerical model for influence diagrams: rough sets. In the proposed framework, the causal relationships among the nodes and the decision rules are expressed with rough sets from information systems. This study develops rough set-based framework in influence diagrams with an illustrative example.Item type:Item, Knowledge modeling in traditional Chinese medicine with fuzzy influence diagrams(2008-08-01) ;Kao, Han-Ying ;Huang, Chia-Hui ;Kao, Tai-Chi ;Kao, Han-Chung交大名義發表Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been developed for more than four thousand years. It is a complete medical system embracing diagnosis, treatment and prevention. However, the knowledge of TCM is linguistically vague and usually involves subjective judgments, which makes automated inference challenging. This study proposes a novel approach for knowledge modeling in TCM, fuzzy influence diagrams (FID). Considering the subjective knowledge as well as linguistic fuzziness in TCM, possibility distributions are used to model the uncertainty and causal relationships in influence diagrams, which extend the conventional influence diagrams into fuzzy influence diagrams. The FID provides a general platform for answering various queries in TCM, such as prognosis, diagnosis, and optimal treatment. The FID can bridge the qualitative fuzziness and quantitative numerical models in knowledge bases for TCM.
