Item type:Item, A Sonification System Based on Geographic and Meteorologic Data(2015) ;Huang, Chih-Fang ;Nien, Wei-Po ;機械工程學系Department of Mechanical EngineeringMost algorithmic composition system is implemented based on the input of music parameters, which needs professional music and technology training to complete the automated composition. This paper proposed an innovated way called Geographic and Meteorologic Data Sonification System (GMDSS), to perform the data mappings into music for various devices such as hand phone or other hand-hold devices, and the driver can retrieve the environment information in real time to let people concentrate on driving without the need of paying attention to the long-term complicated data visualization. The mapping relationship between geographic/meteorologic data and music features is discussed, and the result shows the implementation of GIS and weather data which can compose the proper correspondent music accordingly.Item type:Item, A Study of the Integrated Automated Emotion Music with the Motion Gesture Synthesis via ZigBee Wireless Communication(2013) ;Huang, Chih-Fang ;Nien, Wei-Po ;機械工程學系Department of Mechanical EngineeringAutomated music composition and algorithmic composition are based on the logic operation with music parameters being set according to the desired music style or emotion. The computer generative music can be integrated with other domains using proper mapping techniques, such as the intermedia arts with music technology. This paper mainly discusses the possibility of integrating both automatic composition and motion devices with an Emotional Identification System (EIS) using the emotion classification and parameters through wireless communication ZigBee. The correspondent music pattern and motion path can be driven simultaneously via the cursor movement of the Emotion Map (EM) varying with time. An interactive music-motion platform is established accordingly.Item type:Item, Algorithmic approach to sonification of classical Chinese poetry(2012-11-01) ;Huang, Chih-Fang ;Lu, Hsiang-Pin ;Ren, Jenny ;音樂研究所機械工程學系The classical Chinese poetry is a remarkable form of art in traditional Chinese character. However, it is difficult for people who are unfamiliar with ancient Chinese to experience the artistic content of the poetry. In this study, a sonification scheme, Tx2Ms (Text-to-Music), is proposed to extract the poetry features between lines in verses; moreover, dynamics and interval relations are modeled to map those features to the movement of multi-dimensional musical elements such as durations. This conversion is based on poetry intonation and acoustic analysis of the pronunciations of poems; and a stochastic compositional algorithm is created by applying a Markov chain. In addition, the best pentatonic mode for a specific poem is recommended according to the formants analysis. Therefore, the sonification of classical Chinese poetry not only provides a novel way for people to appreciate Chinese poetry but also enriches the state of mind and imagery in the delivery process, and the experiment results show that the proposed system is successfully accepted by most people.Item type:Item, Analyzing the perception of Chinese melodic imagery and its application to automated composition(2016-07) ;Huang, Chih-Fang ;Lian, Yu-Shian ;Nien, Wei-Po ;Chieng, Wei-Hua機械工程學系This study investigated the influence of two music elements, mode and rhythm, on melodic imagery. By modulating different parameters of mode and rhythm, this study produced various melody samples. Kansei engineering was adopted as a research method for designing the experimental process. A set of music assessment rules was established by regularizing the existing modes and rhythms and analyzing and comparing their differences. The results were applied to automated composition in order to develop a comprehensive automated composition system. Before the hearing experiment, 39 adjective pairs were selected for the survey of melodic imagery by reviewing literature and engaging in discussions with experts. A Markov chain was adopted for analyzing the current modal music to establish a Markov switching table for the Chinese pentatonic scale, and metrical complexity was used for generating rhythms. Finally, 30 music samples were produced using the automated composition system by applying the various combinations of modes and rhythms. The hearing experiment was conducted on 35 participants for examining their perception of melodic imagery. Item analysis and a reliability test were performed on the experimental data for eliminating invalid samples and items. Thus, 14 adjective pairs with a Cronbach\'s alpha of 0.887 were obtained, indicating favorable reliability. In addition, this study involved conducting factor analysis and extracting three imagery factors, namely passionate-apathetic, beautiful-ugly, and romantic-rigid. Subsequently, multivariate analysis of variance was conducted in this study for determining the relationship between modes and metrical complexity and the 14 adjective pairs, and the estimated means were calculated. Multidimensional scaling was adopted for producing a two-dimensional perceptual map for the construction of a database. The experimental results of this study showed that modes and rhythms in music can effectively help musicians or computer composition systems compose melodies that create various perceptual imageries.Item type:Item, Automated Music Composition Using Heart Rate Emotion Data(2018-01-01) ;Huang, Chih-Fang ;Cai, Yajun ;交大名義發表National Chiao Tung UniversityThis paper proposes an innovated way to compose music automatically according to the input of the heartbeat sensor, to generate music with the correspondent emotion states. The typical 2D emotion plane with arousal and valence (A-V) states are adapted into our system, to determine the generative music features. Algorithmic composition technique including Markov chain is used, with the emotion - music feature mapping method, to compose the desired correspondent music. The result show a pretty good success with various generative music, including sad, happy, joyful, and angry, and the heartbeat values show its good consistency for the correspondent emotion states finally.Item type:Item, Characteristics of 4H-SiC RF MOSFETs on a Semi-insulating Substrate(2011) ;Wu, Tian-Li ;Huang, Chih-Fang ;Cheng, Chun-Hu ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsThis study has provided considerable insight into the impact of device down scaling on the characteristics of RF devices. This type of RF devices, featuring a thin p-layer based on a semi-insulating substrate, is free from the unwanted parasitic effects resulting from traditional conducting substrates. We fabricated 4H-SiC RF MOSFETs with f(T)/f(MAX) of 0.7/1.5 GHz and, in so doing, identified the key issues associated with short channel effects, influencing device mobility and the RF characteristics of RF MOSFETs on a semi-insulating substrate.Item type:Item, Crystal Quality of 3C-SiC Influenced by the Diffusion Step in the Modified Four-Step Method(2010) ;Chen, Wei-Yu ;Wang, Wei-Lin ;Liu, Jui-Min ;Chen, Chien-ChengHwang, Jenn-ChangThe atomic arrangement and bonding characteristics of void-free 3C-SiC/Si(100) grown by the modified four-step method are presented. Without the diffusion step, Si-C bonds are partially formed in the as-carburized layer on Si(100). The ratio of C-C bonds to Si-C bonds is about 7:3, which can be lowered to about 1:9 after the diffusion step at 1350 degrees C for 5 min or at 1300 degrees C for 7 min according to C 1s core level spectra. The residual C-C bonds cannot be removed, which is associated with an irregular atomic arrangement (amorphous) located either at the 3C-SiC/Si(100) interface or at the intersection of twin boundaries in the 3C-SiC buffer layer based on the lattice image taken by transmission electron microscope. The diffusion step helps the formation of Si-C bonds more completely and results in a SiC buffer layer of high quality formed on Si(100) before the growth step. However, twins and stacking faults still appear in the 3C-SiC buffer layer after the diffusion step. The formation mechanism of the 3C-SiC buffer layer is proposed and discussed.Item type:Item, Demonstration of Annealing-free Metal-Insulator-Semiconductor (MIS) Ohmic Contacts on a GaN Substrate using Low Work-function Metal Ytterbium (Yb) and Al2O3 Interfacial Layer(2019-01-01) ;Wu, Tian-Li ;Tseng, Yang-Yan ;Huang, Chih-Fang ;Chen, Zih-SinLin, Chih-ChienIn this letter, the Metal-Insulator-Semiconductor (MIS) contacts are fabricated on the GaN substrates and compared to the Metal-Semiconductor (MS) contacts. To alleviate the Fermi level pinning effect at the Metal-Semiconductor interface, an Al2O3 interfacial layer (IL) (1 similar to 3 nm) is used to form the MIS contacts. By comparing the electrical characteristics, the contact with Onm Al2O3 layer, i.e., MS contact, shows a lowest current compared to the contacts with an Al2O3 IL, i.e., MIS contact. Furthermore, the current at 0.5V in the fabricated Transmission Line Measurement (TLM) device with lnm Al2O3 IL is 10(3) times higher the one without an Al2O3 IL. This proves that inserting an Al2O3 IL could mitigate the Fermi level pinning, resulting in a low Schottky barrier height. Finally, based on the TLM analysis, the resistivity of 5.1x10(-4) Omega.cm(2) is demonstrated in the MIS contact with lnm Al2O3 IL.Item type:Item, Estimation of single-tone signal frequency with special reference to a frequency-modulated continuous wave system(2012-03-01) ;Huang, Chih-Fang ;Lu, Hsiang-Pin ;Chieng, Wei-Hua ;機械工程學系Department of Mechanical EngineeringEstimating the frequency of a single-tone signal is a common problem in radar applications, such as frequency-modulated continuous wave radar. This study presents a frequency estimation algorithm called the gradient search method using the derivative of discrete Fourier transform on the received signal samples. The analytical boundaries of the proposed method for different signal-to-noise ratios under the two conditions, with the rectangular window and with the Hann window, are derived. This study also compares the most appropriate algorithms available in the literature, including chirp-Z transform and other advanced methods. Simulation and experimental results show that the proposed algorithm provides superior performance to previous methods.Item type:Item, Impact of the TiN barrier layer on the positive bias temperature instabilities of high-k/metal-gate field effect transistors(2015-04-01) ;Huang, Da-Cheng ;Gong, Jeng ;Huang, Chih-Fang ;Chung, Steve S.電子工程學系及電子研究所This study examined the impact of positive bias temperature instability (PBTI) on n-channel metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (n-MOSFET) with TiN barrier layer sandwiched between metal gate electrode and HfO2 dielectric. The experimental results clearly demonstrate that the diffusion mechanism of oxygen and nitrogen as a result of the post metallization treatment was the root cause of the PBTI. In this mechanism, the oxygen during the post metallization annealing (PMA) was diffused into TiN layer and replaced the nitrogen in the TiN layer. Subsequently, these replaced nitrogens were diffused into the HfO2, from which these replaced nitrogen atoms were used to passivate the defects in the HfO2. Results show that by increasing the thickness of TiN barrier layer, the driving current and the PBTI of n-MOSFET can be greatly improved. The larger the thickness of the TiN layer is, the better the PBTI reliability becomes. The proposed Automated Composition for Music Education (ACME) software was developed to help the students to compose the rhythm and melody themselves, while chord configuration and arrangement are automatically generated. Subsequently, sixth-year students of a non-experimental school were recruited to use the software for the completion of its development. Analysis of learning effectiveness at the reaction level, analysis of learning-level learning effectiveness, correlation analysis of the reaction- and learning-levels learning effectiveness has been performed with a significant result. The correlations between each component of learning effectiveness at the reaction and learning levels were also found. Finally the students in the experimental group using the ACME teaching materials showed a better learning effectiveness at both reaction level and learning level, than those of the students in the comparison group. A novel structure with the split gate in touch with the P+ shielding is proposed. The key design issues for 4H-SiC UMOSFETs are trench gate dielectric protection and reverse transfer capacitance Crss reduction. Based on simulation results, it is concluded that a UMOSFET with a gate structure combining split gate grounded to the trench bottom protection P+ shielding layer and a current spreading layer is achieved to yield the best compromise between conduction, switching, and short circuit performance. The split-gate design can effectively reduce Crss by shielding the coupling between the gate electrode and the drain region. The P+ shielding design not only protects the oxide at trench bottom corners but also minimizes the short channel effect due to drain-induced barrier lowing and the channel length modulation. Trade-off of the doping concentration of current spreading layer for UMOSFET is also discussed. A heavily doped current spreading layer may increase Crss and influence the switching time, even though R-ON,R-SP is reduced.Item type:Item, Rhythm Speech Lyrics Input for MIDI-Based Singing Voice Synthesis(2009) ;Lee, Hong-Ru ;Huang, Chih-Fang ;Hsu, Chih-Hao ;Wang, Wen-Nan機械工程學系This paper presents useful techniques and considerations in implementing underlying mandarin singing voice synthesis system using the RSLI unit The system can receive the continuous speech of the lyrics of a song, and can synthesize the intended song based on the MIDI-based music database This system is designed based on 3 units The first one is the input unit which allows the user specifies a musical score and phonetically-spelled lyrics to system The second one is the modified unit and it is employed to implement the pitch-shilling function using the PSOLA method The thud one is the mixed unit which has some undesirable artificial-sounding buzzy-effects. The pipa comprises four strings with 30 frets and individual pear-shaped body so that it can offer a wide chromatic scale around 3.5 octaves and many kinds of tones. The acoustical properties of this instrument are analyzed according to the recorded tones. The most vital playing techniques are synthesized by using both physical and spectral based models with auxiliary rules. Applying the digital waveguide concept, the pipa model was constructed with digital filters and input excitations. Synthetic results are very similar to the recorded one according to the waveforms and spectra comparison and the statistics of listening tests.Item type:Item, Square-Gate AlGaN/GaN HEMTs With Improved Trap-Related Characteristics(2009-12-01) ;Lin, Yu-Syuan ;Wu, Jia-Yi ;Chan, Chih-Yuan ;Hsu, Shawn S. H.Huang, Chih-FangIn this brief, the trap-related characteristics of high-breakdown AlGaN/GaN high-electron-mobility transistors (HEMTs) were investigated. Compared with a conventional multifinger layout, the square-gate design presented reduced the current collapse from 19% to 6% and almost eliminated the gate lag. The flicker noise density and the gate leakage decreased from 1.16 x 10(-10) to 1.17 x 10(-11) 1/Hz (f = 100 Hz) and from 7.36 x 10(-5) to 1.80 x 10(-6) A/mm (V(GS) = -4 V and V(DS) = 100 V), respectively. The breakdown voltage was also improved from 350 to 650 V. With the channel area away from the defects generated by the mesa etching process, the square-gate AlGaN/GaN HEMTs demonstrated excellent performance with much less trapping effects.
