Item type:Item, An Auction Based Smart Service Robot Implemented on a Fog Computing Node(2017-01-01) ;Safianowska, Maria B. ;Chang, Yi-Chieh Peter ;Wang, Te-Jen ;Huang, Chih-WeiHuang, ChingYaoAdopting AR/VR technology on smart retail services is gaining more momentum with the progress in indoor map scanning technology and the research on AI deep learning algorithms. In this paper we propose the use of a Fog computing node to generate an AR/VR view of the real store on a web page. The customers can then use the service robot to view the merchandise in the real store via the web and make purchases. Since the service robot is a precious resource on the AR/VR business model, we develop an auction method to optimize the customer satisfaction and the owner satisfaction in terms of customer waiting time and the average number of transactions that are assisted by the service robot respectively. We demonstrate that the auction method is a critical part in the AR/VR smart business services when the number of service robots is much less than the number of active customers from the web and that it performs better than the standard preemptive method.Item type:Item, dc dynamic and static pull-in predictions and analysis for electrostatically actuated clamped circular micro-plates based on a continuous model(2010-02-01) ;Liao, Lun-De ;Chao, Paul C-P ;Huang, Chih-Wei ;Chiu, Chi-Wei影像與生醫光電研究所This study develops a continuous model to analyze the 'pull-in' effect in the circular micro-plates used in capacitive-type micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) sensors, actuators and microphones. In developing the model, the governing equation of motion of the deformed plate is established in the form of a partial different equation (PDE) which is then decomposed using the Galerkin method to create a coupled set of modal ordinary differential equations. By considering the first-order deflection mode only and using a fifth-order Taylor series expansion of the electrostatic force, closed-form solutions are obtained for both the position and the voltage of the static pull-in event. Applying an energy balance method and a finite-order approximation method, the solutions are then obtained for the position and voltage of the dynamic pull-in event. The theoretical results obtained for the pull-in phenomena are verified based on the comparison to available experimental data, and also numerically using a finite element analysis (FEA) approach. In general, the results indicate that the ratio of the dynamic to static pull-in voltages is approximately 92%. However, when the squeezed-film effect induced by the air gap between the two plates is taken into account, the value of this ratio increases slightly as a result of considering a higher dynamic pull-in voltage.Item type:Item, OLM: Opportunistic Layered Multicasting for Scalable IPTV over Mobile WiMAX(2012-03-01) ;Huang, Chih-Wei ;Huang, Shiang-Ming ;Wu, Po-Han ;Lin, Shiang-JiunHwang, Jenq-NengWe propose Opportunistic Layered Multicasting (OLM), a joint user scheduling and resource allocation algorithm that provides enhanced quality and efficiency for layered video multicast over Mobile WiMAX. This work is a lead off and complete synergy of layered video multicasting with opportunistic concept. The target application is characterized by groups of users acquiring popular video programs over a fading channel. To accommodate various bandwidth requirements and device capability, video streams are coded into base and enhancement layers using scalable video coding technology. Correspondingly, the optimization problems, which select the best subset of users to receive a specific video layer and assign the most appropriate modulation and coding scheme for this video layer, are specifically formulated for both video layer types. We also design fast and effective algorithms to bridge the gap between theoretical throughput capacity and implementation concerns. Thus, the basic video quality can be efficiently guaranteed to all subscribers while creating most utility out of limited resources on enhancement information. To overcome the inevitable packet loss in a multicast session, an FEC rate adaptation scheme to approach theoretical performance is also presented. Favorable performance of the proposed algorithms is demonstrated by simulations utilizing realistic Mobile WiMAX parameters.Item type:Item, Polysubstituted Hexa-cata-hexabenzocoronenes: Syntheses, Characterization, and Their Potential as Semiconducting Materials in Transistor Applications(2019-07-05) ;Kumar, Sushil ;Pola, Someshwar ;Huang, Chih-Wei ;Islam, Md. MinarulVenkateswarlu, SamalaA series of tetra- and octa-substituted hexa-cata-hexabenzocoronenes (cata-HBCs) were synthesized from tetraryl olefins via iodine- and iron chloride-catalyzed oxidative cyclodehydrogenation reactions. The substitutions on the periphery of the parent HBC serve to modify the photophysical properties, highest occupied molecular orbital-lowest unoccupied molecular orbital gaps, and thermal stabilities of the respective derivatives. The crystal structures were determined to display multiple twists in the framework, resulting in different packing motifs depending on the position, type, and number of functional groups on the hexabenzocoronene framework. Nearly perfect co-facial packing to marginally or extensively shifted co-facial stacks were obtained due to substitution. The single crystals of parent HBC were used to fabricate single-crystal field-effect transistors, from which the highest p-channel mobility of 0.51 cm(2) V-1 s(-1) was measured. Thin-film transistors of selected HBCs were also prepared, and 0.61 cm(2) V-1 s(-1) was obtained for MeHBC-2. These results attest the potential of these materials as semiconducting materials.
