Item type:Item, A development and validation platform for communication SOC design(2006) ;Sun, YuChen ;Huang, ChingYao ;電機學院College of Electrical and Computer EngineeringThis paper introduces a development and validation platform that combines hardware modeling and communication system simulation. This platform enables the use of a single platform for multiple purposes throughout a communication system design, including system simulation, software development and hardware modeling. Besides providing cycle accuracy hardware model, the platform is integrated with a multi-device simulation environment. Based on the platform, designers could complete protocol analysis and system simulation in a single stage. The platform is useful for the designs of communication components whose behaviors are highly coupled with transmission medium and other parallel components. In this paper, we will present the basic components and their design strategies.Item type:Item, A Novel Adaptive P-Persistent MAC Scheme for WLAN Providing Low Delay Variance(2006) ;Chang, Chung-Ju ;Yen, Frank C. M. ;Chen, Yih-Shen ;Huang, ChingYao電信工程研究所The paper proposes and analyzes a novel adaptive p-persistent-based (APP) medium access control (MAC) scheme to provide low delay variance for IEEE 802.11 WLAN. The APP MAC scheme can differentiate permission probabilities of transmission for stations being incurred with different packet delays, and the permission probability is designed as a function of the numbers of retransmissions and re-backoffs so that stations being with larger packet delay can attain higher permission probability. Additionally, the scheme is modeled by a Markov-chain and successfully analyzed, where the system throughput and delay are derived. Results show that the proposed APP MAC scheme can achieve lower delay variance than conventional algorithms; it can effectively reduce the collision probability and the mean delay, therefore, the mean throughput is enhanced, as well.Item type:Item, An Auction Based Smart Service Robot Implemented on a Fog Computing Node(2017-01-01) ;Safianowska, Maria B. ;Chang, Yi-Chieh Peter ;Wang, Te-Jen ;Huang, Chih-WeiHuang, ChingYaoAdopting AR/VR technology on smart retail services is gaining more momentum with the progress in indoor map scanning technology and the research on AI deep learning algorithms. In this paper we propose the use of a Fog computing node to generate an AR/VR view of the real store on a web page. The customers can then use the service robot to view the merchandise in the real store via the web and make purchases. Since the service robot is a precious resource on the AR/VR business model, we develop an auction method to optimize the customer satisfaction and the owner satisfaction in terms of customer waiting time and the average number of transactions that are assisted by the service robot respectively. We demonstrate that the auction method is a critical part in the AR/VR smart business services when the number of service robots is much less than the number of active customers from the web and that it performs better than the standard preemptive method.Item type:Item, Analysis of Femto Base Station Network Deployment(2012-02-01) ;Tseng, YungLan ;Huang, ChingYao ;電機工程學系Department of Electrical and Computer EngineeringIn this paper, assurance of proper downlink outage probability, which is a design criterion based on feasible femto base station (BS) density, is analyzed. The compressed mode, with variable transmission gaps and power levels, is standardized to support inter-frequency/inter-system handover. To optimize the system resources while maintaining the border-cell handover quality, a capacity-based compressed mode algorithm is proposed. Considering the tradeoff between the capacity and the connection quality, the algorithm can adaptively manage the compressed mode operation based on the potential impacts on the capacity and the efficiency of the compressed mode measurement. The performance will be studied based on UMTS simulation platform.Item type:Item, Cognitive Radio Networks: Game Modeling and Self-organization Using Stochastic Learning(2013-01-01) ;Lin, Chen-Hao ;Tseng, Li-Chuan ;Huang, ChingYao ;電機工程學系Department of Electrical and Computer EngineeringDue to the high demand of spectrum utilization, cognitive radio (CR) network has been a promising solution to the problem of spectrum scarcity by using dynamic spectrum access technique. In this paper, we study one of the CR network architectures where the CR base stations (CRBSs) demand spectrum resources for the CR users to directly access and utilize. We applied an economical Cournot Game model to the system where the CRBSs are the players in this game. In order to optimize the game, we propose a stochastic learning (SL) based scheme for the CRBSs to adjust the demand amount of resources based on the action-reward history. Numerical results show the convergence toward a Nash Equilibrium (NE) point, and the system performs well in terms of the total utility comparing with other schemes.Item type:Item, Combinatorial Recurrent Multi-Unit Auctions for Fog Services(2016-01-01) ;Safianowska, Maria Barbara ;Gdowski, Robert ;Huang, ChingYao ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsAn emerging Fog Computing paradigm aims at reducing overall latency and end-to-end data transfer costs between IoT devices and analytic entity as in comparison to purely Cloud based solutions. In the near future, Fog services will be offered on virtual marketplaces by Fog Node owners. To facilitate the exchange in such volatile markets, we devise a recurrent, multi-unit, combinatorial auction with bidder drop and resource waste control and a two-step winner determination algorithm. Proposed solution extends on Participation Incentive Optimal Recurring Auction (PI-ORA) algorithm, which separately solves bidder drop problem for single-unit, non combinatorial auction, to include the case of multi-unit combinatorial auction which is necessary for Fog service markets. The results show stability and efficiency of the proposed algorithm.Item type:Item, Content-aware adaptive media playout controls for wireless video streaming(2007-10-01) ;Chuang, Hsiao-Chiang ;Huang, ChingYao ;Chiang, Tihao ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control EngineeringVideo streaming is one of the killer applications for cellular communications. The MPEG-4 fine-granularity scalability video coding technique can adapt to bandwidth variation and random packet errors. In this paper, to explore the impacts of cellular channel characteristics on the tolerance of buffer performance and quality of service, a novel statistical model-based adaptive media playout (AMP) is proposed by utilizing the statistical assumptions of both arrival and departure processes for a better decision on the dynamic threshold adjustment an frame-rate adjustment. This paper presents a game-theoretic study of channel assignment for realizing network multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) operation under time-varying wireless channel. We propose a new joint precoding scheme that carries enhanced interference mitigation and capacity improvement abilities for network MIMO systems. We formulate the channel assignment problem from a game-theoretic perspective with BSs as the players, and show that our game is an exact potential game given the proposed utility function. A distributed, stochastic learning-based algorithm is proposed where each BS progressively moves toward the Nash equilibrium (NE) strategy based on its own action-reward history only. The convergence properties of the proposed learning algorithm toward an NE point are theoretically and numerically verified for different network topologies. The proposed learning algorithm also demonstrates an improved capacity and fairness performance as compared to other schemes through extensive link-level simulations.Item type:Item, Downlink Scheduling in Network MIMO Using Two-Stage Channel State Feedback(2012) ;Tseng, Li-Chuan ;Jin, Xin ;Marzouki, Abdelwaheb ;Huang, ChingYao交大名義發表In this paper, we propose a user scheduling scheme which is based merely on the ergodic rate. We derive the ergodic rate of each user for our network MIMO system from the average Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) and the covariance of prediction error. Further more, we design a joint precoding for the selected users. The precoding matrices are contrived according to the predicted Channel State Information at Transmitter (CSIT) in the future time slot to reduce the deviation caused by delay. Such a network MIMO system is under consideration, where the users are cooperatively served by multiple Base Stations (BSs). User scheduling and joint precoding are executed by a central unit connected to all BSs. Both the above functions require the CSIT which is acquired by an uplink feedback overhead. Simulation results demonstrate a conspicuous improvement in user spectral efficiency with reduced feedback.Item type:Item, Dynamic Resource Management for OFDMA-based Femtocells in the Uplink(2011) ;Tseng, Li-Chuan ;Huang, ChingYao ;Hanif, Ahmed Farhan ;交大名義發表National Chiao Tung UniversityFemtocells are small base stations that are usually installed in indoor environments to improve the data rate in coverage holes of cellular systems. Since femtocells are usually deployed in an ad hoc manner by users and share the same frequency bands, interference mitigation becomes the main concerns of resource management function. In this paper, we consider the OFDMA-based femtocell networks, and treat the resource allocation problem by developing dynamic subchannel assignment and power allocation algorithms. The proposed algorithms utilize the user diversity within femtocells and take into account the interference conditions of local and neighboring femtocells. The simulation results show that such dynamic resource assignment provide higher system throughput as well as per-user QoS. Additionally subchannel usage ratio is increased.Item type:Item, Log-Value Estimation of Random Variable Following Generalized Gamma Distribution in Wireless Communications(2013) ;Tseng, YungLan ;Huang, ChingYao ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsIn this paper, start from the m-dimensional homogeneous Poisson Point Process (HPPP), we present a closed form expression for the log-value estimation of a random variable which follows generalized gamma distribution (ggd). Numerical results are provided to show the correctness of proposed closed form. The proposed closed form can be applied to the calculations of signal strength and Shannon channel capacity of the random network which follows HPPP. Furthermore, our study can be extended to other studies of wireless communication. Here, we apply our proposed closed form to the fading figure estimation of Nakagami fading channel. Simulation results show our proposed estimator is comparable to other popular estimators.Item type:Item, Network Selection in Cognitive Heterogeneous Networks Using Stochastic Learning(2013-12-01) ;Tseng, Li-Chuan ;Chien, Feng-Tsun ;Zhang, Daqiang ;Chang, Ronald Y.Chung, Wei-HoCoexistence of multiple radio access technologies (RATs) is a promising paradigm to improve spectral efficiency. This letter presents a game-theoretic network selection scheme in a cognitive heterogeneous networking environment with time-varying channel availability. We formulate the network selection problem as a noncooperative game with secondary users (SUs) as the players, and show that the game is an ordinal potential game (OPG). A decentralized, stochastic learning-based algorithm is proposed where each SU's strategy progressively evolves toward the Nash equilibrium (NE) based on its own action-reward history, without the need to know actions in other SUs. The convergence properties of the proposed algorithm toward an NE point are theoretically and numerically verified. The proposed algorithm demonstrates good throughput and fairness performances in various network scenarios.Item type:Item, Power Model for Wireless Body Area Network(2008) ;Cheng, ShihHeng ;Huang, ChingYao ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsIn this paper, an analytical power consumption model for beacon-mode and CSMA/CA-mode access schemes is developed for a wireless body area network (WBAN). Apart from considering the conventional collision from intra-network nodes, the model also investigates the collision caused by the nodes from different moving WBAN groups. From the analysis, we will identify the need of having a hybrid-mode access scheme with at least 63.4% power consumption of beacon-mode and double WBAN user capacity of CSMA/CA-mode to support multi-WBAN groups at a manageable power consumption level.Item type:Item, Preventing market collapse in auctions for perishable Internet of Things resources(2017-11-29) ;Safianowska, Maria B. ;Gdowski, Robert ;Huang, ChingYao ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsWe are entering the era of digital business moments where autonomous things will buy and sell services from each other in order to make people's life easier. They will also negotiate in order to achieve the best price for their services which will result in Internet of Things auctions. Such auctions will be combinatorial and recurrent. Recurrent auctions pose a problem of bidder drop which leads to market collapse. Moreover, in Internet of Things, bidders will employ different strategies according to their pattern of consuming resources. We describe two bidding strategies which may lead to market collapse or very low revenue: opportunistic and periodic bidding. We devise two algorithms: revenue maximizing auction and highest bid lock auction, analyze their performance under these two bidding strategies, and compare them to traditional combinatorial auction. We find out that the revenue maximizing auction prevents market collapse under opportunistic bidding while highest bid lock auction provides the highest revenue under both strategies.Item type:Item, Priority-based EDF scheduling algorithm for real-time service(2007) ;Lu, TsungChi ;Huang, ChingYao ;Lin, Maw-Ching ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsTo provide better QoS support for high quality multimedia applications and precise priority setting for various traffic types in high-data-rate wireless networks, a priority-based EDF scheduling algorithm and modified MAC protocol are proposed. According to traffic characteristics, different priority controls might be needed even for the same application. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can not only guarantee a low error rate for high priority traffic but also work better than other algorithms on low priority traffic. Most commendably, the proposed algorithm and modified MAC protocol are simple and realistic.
