Item type:Item, A new method for constructing IP level power model based on power sensitivity(2000-12-01) ;Huang, HL ;Lin, JY ;Shen, WZ ;Jou, JY電子工程學系及電子研究所As the function uf a system getting more complex. IP (Intellectual Property) reusing is the trend of system design style. Designers need to evaluate the performance and features of every candidate IP block that can be used in their design, while IP providers hope to keep the structure of tilt ir IP blocks a secret. An IP level power model is a model that takes only the primary) input statistics its parameters and does not reveal any information about the sizes of the transistors or the structure of the circuit. This paper proposes a new method for constructing power model that is suitable for IP level circuit blocks. It is a nominal point selection method, fur power models based oil power sensitivities. BS analyzing the relationship between the dynamic power consumption uf CMOS circuits and their input signal statistics, a guideline of selecting the nominal point is proposed. From our analysis. the first nominal point is selected to minimize the average Estimation error and two other nominal points are selected to minimize the maximum estimation error. Our experimental results on a number of benchmark circuits show the effectiveness of the proposed method. Average estimation accuracy within 5.78% of transistor level simulations is achieved. The proposed method can he applied to build a system level power estimation environment without revealing the contents of the IP blocks inside. Thereby. it is a promising method for IP level power model construction.Item type:Item, An efficient logic extraction algorithm using partitioning and circuit encoding(2004) ;Huang, L ;Jiang, TY ;Jou, JY ;Huang, HL電子工程學系及電子研究所Nowadays, finding subcircuits in a larger circuit is primarily solved by using various heuristics based on graph isomorphism. These approaches are addressed on identify g one specific subcircuit at each time and may take numerous runs if many subcircuits need to be extracted. Therefore, they are not quite suitable for converting the whole circuit represented at transistor-level to a gate-level netlist. We present a logic extraction approach based on dc-connected component (DCC) partition and modified circuit-encoding algorithm to extract all kinds of subscircuits from the input circuit concurrently such that we can. map each subcircuit represented as transistor level netlist to its corresponding logic gate. This mapping relation can be exploited to speed up the simulation of large circuits. Experiments on several real circuits, including sequential logic ones and combination logic ones, show the near-linear performance in run time and memory usage.Item type:Item, BCS-like superconductivity in MgCNi3(2003-02-01) ;Lin, JY ;Ho, PL ;Huang, HL ;Lin, PHZhang, YLThe low-temperature specific heat C(T,H) of the superconductor MgCNi3 has been measured in detail. DeltaC/gamma(n)T(c)=1.97 is estimated from the anomaly at T-c. At low temperatures, the electronic contribution in the superconducting state follows C-es/gamma(n)T(c)approximate to7.96 exp(-1.46T(c)/T). The magnetic-field dependence of gamma(H) is found to be linear with respect to H. T-c estimated from the McMillan formula agrees well with the observed value. All the specific-heat data appear to be consistent with each other within the moderate-coupling BCS context. It is amazing that such a superconductor unstable to ferromagnetism behaves so conventionally. The Debye temperature Theta(D)=287 K and the normal state gamma(n)=33.6 mJ/mol K-2 are determined for the present sample.Item type:Item, Bootstrap Monte Carlo with adaptive stratification for power estimation(2002-08-01) ;Huang, HL ;Jou, JY ;電子工程學系及電子研究所Department of Electronics Engineering and Institute of ElectronicsMonte Carlo approach for power estimation is based on the assumption that the samples of power are Normally distributed. However, the power distribution of a circuit is not always Normal in the real world. In this paper, the Bootstrap method is adopted to adjust the confidence interval and redeem the deficiency of the conventional Monte Carlo method. Besides, a new input sequence stratification technique for power estimation is proposed. The proposed technique utilizes a multiple regression method to compute the coefficient matrix of the indicator function for stratification. This new stratification technique can adaptively update the coefficient matrix and keep the population of input vectors in a better stratification status. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed Bootstrap Monte Carlo method with adaptive stratification can effectively reduce the simulation time and meet the user-specified confidence level and error level.Item type:Item, Characterization and lithographic parameters extraction for the modified resists(1999) ;Ko, FH ;Lu, JK ;Chu, TC ;Huang, TYYang, CCThe modification of the i-line resist structure after spiking with various amount of poly(4-vinylphenol) polymer is characterized by the spectra of ultraviolet visible (UV-VIS) and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The chemical structure of photoactive compound is found to be unchanged after modification, while slight change in the polymer chain is observed. The resist layer coated onto the wafer is characterized by various methods including n&k analyzer, Nanospec, Fourier transform infrared red (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) to fully evaluate the film properties in terms of porosity, thickness, vibrational spectrum, and thermal stability. Our thermal analysis results show that the resists are mainly decomposed in three stages. The photoactive compound (PAC) is found to decompose during the first stage, while the polymer decomposes during the latter stages. The resist exposure parameters, namely, A, B and C at 365 mn are determined by the absorbance measurement. The extracted parameters are further used in the resist profile simulation by PROLITH/2. It is shown that the spiking of poly(4-vinylphenol) polymer into the resist can improve the resolution and linearity for dense lines. In addition, the swing effects can be reduced by up to 35 and 31 % for dense and isolated lines after resist modification, respectively.Item type:Item, Designing structure-specified mixed H-2/H-infinity optimal controllers using an intelligent genetic algorithm IGA(2005-11-01) ;Ho, SJ ;Ho, SY ;Hung, MH ;Shu, LSHuang, HLThis brief proposes an efficient method for designing accurate structure-specified mixed H-2/H-infinity optimal controllers for systems with uncertainties and disturbance using an intelligent genetic algorithm (IGA). The newly-developed IGA with intelligent crossover based on orthogonal experimental design (OED) is efficient for solving intractable engineering problems with lots of design parameters. The IGA-based method without using prior domain knowledge can efficiently solve design problems of multi-input-multi-output (MIMO) optimal control systems, which is very suitable for practical engineering designs. High performance and validity of the proposed method are evaluated by two test problems, a MIMO distillation column model and a MIMO super maneuverable F18/HARV fighter aircraft system. It is shown empirically that the IGA-based method has good tracking performance, robust stability and disturbance attenuation for both controllers, compared with the existing methods.Item type:Item, Effect of post-treatment on electrical properties of amorphous hydrogenated carbon films deposited by gridless ion beam deposition(2003-01-01) ;Chen, CF ;Li, YW ;Huang, HL ;材料科學與工程學系Department of Materials Science and EngineeringAmorphous hydrogenated carbon (a-C:H) films were deposited from the gas mixtures of acetylene (C2H2) and argon (Ar) in a gridless ion beam deposition (GIBD) system fed with dc power. Vacuum annealing and hydrogen plasma treatment were performed on the a-C:H films and their effects on the physical and electrical properties of the films were investigated. Film structure and properties were investigated as a function of the C2H2 flow rate by Raman spectroscopy. Through the Raman spectra, we found that the Raman I-D/I-G intensity ratio increases as annealing temperature increases, which indicates a more graphite-like character in the annealed films. The dielectric constant of the annealed a-CA films was reduced from 3.8 to 2.9 and the thickness also slightly decreased with increasing annealing temperature. However, the leakage current density and dielectric constant of the hydrogen-plasma-treated a-C:H films were clearly lower than the as-deposited a-C:H films.Item type:Item, Efficient gene selection for classification of microarray data(2005) ;Ho, SY ;Lee, CC ;Chen, HM ;Huang, HL生物資訊及系統生物研究所Microarray is a useful technique for measuring expression data of thousands of genes simultaneously. One of challenges in classification of microarray data is to select a minimal number of relevant genes which can maximize classification accuracy. Many gene selection methods as well as their corresponding classifiers have been proposed. One of existing analysis methods is the hybrid approach based on genetic algorithm and maximum likelihood classification (GA/MLHD). In this paper, an intelligent genetic algorithm (IGA) using control genes and an improved fitness function is proposed to determine the minimal number of relevant genes and identify these genes, while maximizing classification accuracy simultaneously. The experimental results show that our approach is superior to the existing method GA/MLHD in terms of the number of selected genes, classification accuracy, and robustness of selected genes and accuracy, especially for the datasets which have numerous categories and a large number of testing genes inside.Item type:Item, Electronic and magnetic instability in Pr0.65Ca0.25Sr0.1MnO3(2003-09-01) ;Mollah, S ;Huang, HL ;Liu, SJ ;Ho, PLHuang, WLElectronic and magnetic instability in polycrystalline Pr0.65Ca0.25Sr0.1MnO3 manganite has been established from a systematic study of resistivity (p), magnetization (M) and specific heat (C). The sample shows a charge ordering transition at T-CO similar to 200 K, an antiferromagnetic (AFM) ordering transition at T-N similar to 175 K, a metal-insulator (MI) transition at T-MI similar to 80 K and an unusual magnetic ordering transition at T-M(*) similar to 45 K in the absence of magnetic fields. Though the C data do not show any anomaly at T-MI for MI transition, these illustrate a much smaller anomaly than expected one at T-M* and is suppressed by magnetic fields. This indicates that the unusual magnetic ordering in this sample is of canted, fluctuated or phase separation of AFM and ferromagnetic in nature which is established from the T-H phase diagram, as well as the thermal and magnetic hysteresis in p, M and C. Inference of an S-system model has 2N(N+l) parameters to be optimized where N is the number of genes in a genetic network. To cope with higher dimensionality, the proposed approach consists of two stages where each uses a divide-and-conquer strategy. The optimization problem is first decomposed into N subproblems having 2(N+1) parameters each. At the first stage, each subproblem is solved using a novel intelligent genetic algorithm (IGA) with intelligent crossover based on orthogonal experimental design (OED). The intelligent crossover divides two parents into n pairs of parameter groups, economically identifies the potentially better one of two groups of each pair, and systematically obtains a potentially good approximation to the best one of all 2(n) combinations using at most 2n function evaluations. At the second stage, the obtained N solutions to the N subproblems are combined and refined using an OED-based simulated annealing algorithm (OSA) for handling noisy gene expression data. The effectiveness of EDACA is evaluated using simulated expression patterns with/without noise running on a single-CPU PC. It is shown that: 1) IGA is efficient enough to solve subproblems; 2) IGA is significantly superior to. the existing method of using GA with simplex crossover; and 3) EDACA performs well in inferring S-system models of genetic networks from small-noise gene expression data.Item type:Item, Ferromagnetic behavior of a triplet superconductor(1999-04-15) ;Knigavko, A ;Rosenstein, B ;Chen, YF ;Huang, HLLin, MTProperties of a type II triplet superconductor with equal spin pairing are investigated using the phenomenological Ginzburg-Landau approach. It is shown that there exist two kinds of fluxons: vortices and magnetic skyrmions. Vector nature of the order parameter allows a direct coupling of the effective spin of the condensate to a magnetic field. This coupling, which is reminiscent to Zeeman interaction in the form, significantly modifies the structure of an isolated vortex, as compared to the usual Abrikosov vortex, and changes the energetics of a vortex lattice. If the coupling is sufficiently strong, then magnetization of the triplet superconductor becomes positive at high magnetic fields. Formation of spontaneous vortex state is also possible. The results from rho are nearly identical with those determined from the anomaly in C. Furthermore, utilizing the relation gamma(H) proportional to H and the value of dgamma/dH, the obtained value of H-c2 is the same as that by the WHH model, if the spin paramagnetic effect and the spin-orbit interaction are taken into account. The results of this comparison have strong implications on the order parameter of MgCNi3.Item type:Item, On the relocation problem with a second working crew for resource recycling(2006-01-15) ;Lin, BMT ;Huang, HL ;資訊管理與財務金融系 註:原資管所+財金所Department of Information Management and FinanceIn this paper, we introduce a variant of the relocation problem, which was formulated from a public house redevelopment project in Boston. In the problem of interest, given some initial resources in a common pool there is a set of jobs to be processed on a two-machine flowshop. Each job acquires a specific number of resources to start its processing and will return a number of resources to the pool at its completion. The resource consumption and resource recycle processes are performed on machine one and machine two, respectively, in a two-machine flowshop style. Abiding by the resource constraints, the problem seeks to find a feasible schedule whose makespan is minimized. In this paper, we first present NP-hardness proofs for some special cases. Three heuristic algorithms are designed to compose approximate schedules. Two lower bounds are developed and then used to test the performance of our proposed heuristics. Numerical results from computational experiments suggest that the proposed heuristics can produce quality solutions in a reasonable time.Item type:Item, Pressure effects on the transition temperature of superconducting MgCxNi3(2003-09-01) ;Yang, HD ;Mollah, S ;Huang, WL ;Ho, PLHuang, HLThe effect of hydrostatic pressure (P) up to 17 kbar on the superconducting transition temperature (T-C) of the newly discovered intermetallic nonoxide perovskite superconductor MgCxNi3 has been reported. T-C is found to increase with increasing P at a rate of dT(C)/dPsimilar to0.0134 to 0.0155 K/kbar depending on the value of carbon content x. The absolute value of dT(C)/dP for MgCxNi3 is about the same as that of intermetallic RNi2B2C (R denotes rare earth) and metallic superconductors but about one order of magnitude smaller than that of the most recently and intensively studied superconductor MgB2. However, the d ln T-C/dPsimilar to0.001 81 to 0.002 24 kbar(-1) and the rate of change of T-C with unit cell volume (V), d ln T-C/d ln Vsimilar to-3.18 to -2.58 of MgCxNi3 are having the comparable magnitude to that of MgB2 with opposite sign. The increase of T-C with P in MgCxNi3 can be explained in the framework of density of states (DOS) effect.Item type:Item, Scoring method for tumor prediction from microarray data using an evolutionary fuzzy classifier(2006) ;Ho, SY ;Hsieh, CH ;Chen, KW ;Huang, HLChen, HMIn this paper, we propose a novel scoring method for tumor prediction using an evolutionary fuzzy classifier which can provide accurate and interpretable information. The merits of the proposed method are threefold. 1) The score ranged in [0, 100] can further illustrate the degree of tumor status in contrast to the conventional tumor classifier. 2) The derived score system can be used as a tumor classifier using a system-suggested or human-specified threshold value. 3) The derived classifier with a compact fuzzy rule base can. generate an interpretable and accurate prediction result. The effectiveness of the proposed method is evaluated and compared using two well-known datasets from microarray data and an existing tumor classifier. It is shown by computer simulation that the proposed scoring method is effective using ROC curves of classification.
