Item type:Item, A Knowledge Discovery Education Framework Targeting the Effective Budget Use and Opinion Explorations in Designing Specific High Cost Product(2018-08-01) ;Chi, Li-Pin ;Zhuang, Zheng-Yun ;Fu, Chen-Hua ;Huang, Jen-Hung管理科學系For an R&D institution to design a specific high investment cost product, the budget is usually 'large but limited'. To allocate such budget on the directions with key potential benefits (e.g., core technologies) requires, at first and at least, a priority over the involved design criteria, as to discover the relevant decision knowledge for a suitable budgeting plan. Such a problem becomes crucial when the designed product is relevant to the security and military sustainability of a nation, e.g., a next generation fighter. This study presents a science education framework that helps to obtain such knowledge and close the opinion gaps. It involves several main tutorial phases to construct and confirm the set of design criteria, to establish a decision hierarchy, to assess the preferential structures of the decision makers (DMs) (individually or on a group basis), and to perform some decision analyses that are designed to identify the homogeneity and heterogeneity of the opinions in the decision group. The entire framework has been applied in a training course hold in a large R&D institution, while after learning the staff successfully applied these knowledge discovery processes (for planning the budget for the fighter design works and for closing the opinion gaps present). With the staffs' practical exercises, several empirical findings except for the budgeting priority (e.g., the discrimination between 'more important criteria' against the less important ones) are also interesting. For some examples (but not limited to these), it is found that the results from using two measures (statistical correlation vs. geometrical cosine similarity) to identify the opinion gaps are almost identical. It is found that DMs' considerations under various constructs are sometimes consistent, but often hard to be consistent. It is also found that the two methods (degree of divergence (DoD) vs. number of observed subgroups (NSgs)) that are used to understand the opinions' diversity under the constructs are different. The proposed education framework meets the recent trend of data-driven decision-making, and the teaching materials are also some updates to science education.Item type:Item, A Post-Training Study on the Budgeting Criteria Set and Priority for MALE UAS Design(2019-03-25) ;Chi, Li-Pin ;Fu, Chen-Hua ;Chyng, Jeng-Pyng ;Zhuang, Zheng-YunHuang, Jen-HungA recent study proposed a systematic "(budgeting) knowledge discovery educational framework" (BKDEF). This BKDEF is focused on guiding staff training courses for enhancing the ability to allocate the "large but limited" budget for single, high-cost product design. However, except for its initial application to support the budget planning for the next generation fighter design, the framework's effectiveness is still awaiting further scrutiny. This study fills the gap by providing the "second application" of BKDEF, which is to support another similar decision for designing the medium-altitude long-endurance unmanned aerial system (MALE UAS). This paper verified the effectiveness of the framework through an empirical application and obtained the knowledge required to allocate a budget for MALE UAS design following the group-opinion basis. In addition, the original analytical style for the last "decision analysis" phase of BKDEF, which included pure quantitative analytical items in order to understand the similarities and diversities in the individual opinions, was replaced by a comparative study to discover the homogeneity and heterogeneity between the two budgeting decisions in a larger scope. As a consequence, the two criteria sets did not overlap despite both decisions being related to military aircraft design. The absolute weights for the MALE UAS design criteria were more balanced than those for the air-superior fighter design, even if the size of the criteria set was larger. The results pave a way for future studies on how other military aircrafts are designed, as more confidence about the use of a BKDEF can be gained from increasing applications, thus more insightful aerospace knowledge can be exploited in comparisons with these works.Item type:Item, Building personalised relationships with customers via emails(2009) ;Huang, Jen-Hung ;Shyu, Stacy Huey-Pyng ;管理科學系Department of Management SciencePersonalised services, which make customers feel that service employees are polite, friendly and exhibit personal warmth, and that customers are unique and valued, are essential in building good customer relationships. Establishing personalised relationships on the Internet appears impossible. However, the characteristics of reduced cues and asychronised communications make email an effective tool for cultivating relationships between e-retailers and their customers. A sample of 254 students from a university in Northern Taiwan participated in an experiment. Structural equation modelling revealed that frequent personalised emails improve the relationship between e-retailers and their customers, enhance service quality and engender customer loyalty. Furthermore, personalised emails enhance relationship quality more for female customers than for male customers. Finally, future research and managerial implications are discussed.Item type:Item, CAUSAL MODELING OF WEB-ADVERTISING EFFECTS BY IMPROVING SEM BASED ON DEMATEL TECHNIQUE(2010-09-01) ;Wei, Pao-Lien ;Huang, Jen-Hung ;Tzeng, Gwo-Hshiung ;Wu, Shwu-Ing管理科學系Causal analysis greatly affects the efficiency of decision-making. Scholars usually adopt structural equation modeling (SEM) to establish a causal model recently. However, statistical data allow researchers to modify the model frequently to arrive at good model fitness, and SEM is often misapplied when the data are merely fitted to an SEM and the theory is then extended from the analytical result based on presumed hypotheses. This paper proposed SEM modified by DEMATEL technique, taking causal model of Web-advertising effects for example. Having revealed that the new model is the one that conforms to actual data and is better than initial model, the results confirm that the DEMATEL technique can be an efficient, complementary, and confident approach for reprioritization of the amended modes in a SEM model. In addition, the most important factor affecting the Web-advertising effects may be found via the modified model, which benefits the manager for making strategic marketing plans.Item type:Item, Design of III-V/Silicon hybrid surface-emitting laser with grating structure(2015) ;Huang, Jen-Hung ;Chen, Bai-Ci ;Wu, Yu-Chang ;Lin, Chien-Chung光電系統研究所The VCSEL consisting of the HCG mirror, an active layer with InGaAsP quantum wells having optical gain around 1.31 mu m and a TiO2/Sio(2) DBR is designed. Small threshold gain can be theoretically gotten by adjusting the thickness of BCB layer and N-InP layer.Item type:Item, E-government web site enhancement opportunities: a learning perspective(2008) ;Huang, Jen-Hung ;Shyu, Stacy Huey-Pyng ;管理科學系Department of Management SciencePurpose - This study seeks to develop a framework of analysis that categorizes features of e-government web site design in a matrix of knowledge-acquiring process versus learners' values. The proposed framework supports a development plan for a cyber governmental web site that may involve all aspects of a learning process. Design/methodology/approach - A framework for analysis is first proposed. Data were obtained from 137 part-time students during a class. Participants were requested to enter the Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT) web site to learn a subject of their choice in a computer lab. The instruments used for obtaining their opinions were open-ended questionnaires. Two focus group interviews were also conducted. An iterative analyzing strategy based on grounded theory was employed to obtain the results. Findings - Analytical results of the data based on the framework reveals many insights. Participants indicated that navigational aids, knowledge contents and other designs related to interactive knowledge sharing are important. Nevertheless, e-government webmasters often ignore these important features. The proposed framework is a valuable tool for web site development and maintenance. Originality/value - Although many theories about the usability of e-government web sites have been proposed, the needs of individual learners have seldom been addressed. Since learning is critical to economic prosperity and social cohesion, the factors that make an e-government web site supportive for learners should be explored. This study is, to our knowledge, the first to examine an e-government web site from a learner perspective. Furthermore, this investigation presents a framework that facilitates analyzing and improving e-government web sites.Item type:Item, Effect of advance explanations on customer-perceived justice, satisfaction and loyalty enhancement(2008) ;Huang, Jen-Hung ;Lin, Chia-Yen ;管理科學系Department of Management Sciencebeen widely discussed and used as an economic tool in organizational behavior (e.g., Gilliland, 1994). This concept was applied examining the advance/postexplanation effect with 300 samples in a service industry. The result, based on ANOVA analysis, indicates that the advance explanation effect on enhancing customer-perceived justice, satisfaction and loyalty is powerful and significant (Table 1). We concluded that it is important that managers of companies should be providing advance explanations to customers to maintain this relationship economically and efficiently. The relationships among justice, satisfaction, and loyalty under two types of explanation (excuse and justification) will be studied in further research.Item type:Item, Elucidating usage of e-government learning: A perspective of the extended technology acceptance model(2011-10-01) ;Shyu, Stacy Huey-Pyng ;Huang, Jen-Hung ;管理科學系Department of Management ScienceLearning is critical to both economic prosperity and social cohesion. E-government learning, which refers to the government's use of web-based technologies to facilitate learning about subjects that are useful to citizens, is relatively new, relevant, and potentially cost-effective. This work proposes and verifies that the technology acceptance model (TAM) can explain and predict usage of e-government learning. The TAM examines how perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness and their antecedents influence intention and usage of a system. This study identifies antecedents that account for individual differences, thereby enhancing the explanatory power of the built model. A survey is used to collect data from users of an e-government learning website in Taiwan. Structural equation modeling is employed to examine the fit of the data to the model. From a theoretical point of view, this research extends the TAM to e-government learning and identifies the perceived e-government learning value and perceived enjoyment as antecedents of usage of e-government learning. This study also provides directions for future research and approaches to promote e-government learning. (C) 2011 Elsevier Inc. The study identifies two factors that account for individual differences, i.e. perceived enjoyment (PE) and perceived mobility value (PMV), to enhance the explanatory power of the model. Design/methodology/approach - An online survey was conducted to collect data. A total of 313 undergraduate and graduate students in two Taiwan universities answered the questionnaire. Most of the constructs in the model were measured using existing scales, while some measurement items were created specifically for this research. Structural equation modeling was employed to examine the fit of the data with the model by using the LISREL software. Findings - The results of the data analysis shows that the data fit the extended TAM model well. Consumers hold positive attitudes for M-learning, viewing M-learning as an efficient tool. Specifically, the results show that individual differences have a great impact on user acceptance and that the perceived enjoyment and perceived mobility can predict user intentions of using M-learning. Originality/value - There is scant research available in the literature on user acceptance of M-learning from a customer's perspective. The present research shows that TAM can predict user acceptance of this new technology. Perceived enjoyment and perceived mobility value are antecedents of user acceptance. The model enhances our understanding of consumer motivation of using M-learning. This understanding can aid our efforts when promoting M-learning.Item type:Item, Evaluation of small-and medium-sized display market forecasts(2008-09-01) ;Huang, Jen-Hung ;Huang, Hyley ;Lee, Cheng-Few ;管理科學系Department of Management ScienceThe main purpose of this paper is to evaluate small- and medium-sized display market forecasts made by a market research firm. Hypotheses concerning the relationship between stages of technology development and the accuracy of market forecasts are first developed. The hypotheses are then tested and evaluated using the data issued by one market research company, Techno Systems Research (TSR). Kruskal-Wallis rank sum test and nonparametric simple regression are the statistical methods used. The results of the data analysis showed that the forecasts made by the market research company are dependable for mature technology in mature markets, whereas for a new technology their forecasts are inaccurate. Furthermore, the accuracy of forecasts quite often does not improve over time. To our knowledge, no prior published works examine the accuracy of the forecasts made by market research firms. This research shows that small- and medium-sized display manufacturers have to be cautious when using forecast data from market research firms.Item type:Item, FOLK RELIGION AND TOURIST INTENTION AVOIDING TSUNAMI-AFFECTED DESTINATIONS(2008-10-01) ;Huang, Jen-Hung ;Chuang, Shu-Ting ;Lin, Yu-Ru ;管理科學系Department of Management ScienceItem type:Item, Fuzzy Rasch model in TOPSIS: A new approach for generating fuzzy numbers to assess the competitiveness of the tourism industries in Asian countries(2012-04-01) ;Huang, Jen-Hung ;Peng, Kua-Hsin ;管理科學系Department of Management ScienceThis study proposes a novel approach, the Fuzzy Rasch model, which combines Item Response Theory (IRT) and fuzzy set theory. This paper applies the Fuzzy Rasch model in Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) to analyse the Tourism Destination Competitiveness (TDC) of nine Asian countries: China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and the Philippines. The study was conducted in 2009 using 6 criteria and 15 indices. The results demonstrate the feasibility of applying the Fuzzy Rasch model in TOPSIS to analyse TDC in Asian countries. In addition. the proposed model also provides an effective means of applying the MCDM method to study TDC. Furthermore, in 2009, the Asian countries were ranked from most to least competitive as follows: China, Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan, Korea and the Philippines. Aluminum or silicon dioxide would be filled in the inter-space of grating. Besides, the surface reflectivity of different structures was measured and the theoretical calculation was performed. By oxygen plasma-enhanced process, we successfully present the results of a low-temperature process for direct bonding of InP epitaxial layers on a silicon wafer.Item type:Item, New Hybrid Multiple Attribute Decision-Making Model for Improving Competence Sets: Enhancing a Company's Core Competitiveness(2016-02-01) ;Huang, Kuan-Wei ;Huang, Jen-Hung ;Tzeng, Gwo-Hshiung ;管理科學系科技管理研究所Item type:Item, Numerical Analysis on V-shape Gratings for III-V/Silicon Hybrid Lasers(2015) ;Huang, Jen-Hung ;Chen, Bai-Ci ;Wu, Yu-Chang ;Lin, Chien-Chung光電系統研究所We propose and numerically analyze a novel sub-wavelength grating for the purpose of III-V/silicon integration. The design is based on different shapes of gratings in order to increase the lateral (or sideway) coupling. By using COMSOL (R) as the platform, the reverse V-grating design can have doubled percentage of optical field into the silicon grating region when compared to reference. However, the threshold gain of this design is still high and further optimization is needed.Item type:Item, Price-based resource allocation for wireless ad hoc networks with multi-rate capability and energy constraints(2008-09-25) ;Kao, Yu-Fen ;Huang, Jen-Hung ;管理科學系Department of Management ScienceWireless ad hoc networks have attracted a lot of attentions recently. Resource allocation in such networks needs to address both fairness and overall network performance. Pricing is a prospective direction to regulate behaviors of individual nodes while providing incentives for cooperation. In this work, we develop some pricing strategies for resource allocation by taking account of factors like multiple transmission rates and energy consumption of nodes, which have not been well studied in former works. Multi-rate transmission capability is commonly seen in most wireless products nowadays, while energy is one of the most important resources in portable devices. We propose a clique-based model which allows us to achieve optimal resource utilization and fairness among network flows when multi-rate transmission is considered. We also show how to extend the model to dynamically adjust prices based on energy consumptions of flows. In particular, our model takes into account energy consumptions in the transmitters' side, the receivers' side, and those that are non-transmitters and non-receivers but are interfered by these activities. So our model can more accurately reflect the real energy constraint in a wireless network. Simulation results are presented to show the convergence and other properties of these strategies. Since consumers frequently assess online information based on their relationships with communities, rather than with individuals, online communities themselves function as referents for assessing information quality. This study examines whether consumer perceptions toward virtual communities (i.e., sense of virtual community or SOVC) moderate the perceived influence of product comments on attitude and purchase intention. This study manipulated 2 scenarios involving positive comments and negative comments regarding a newly issued game product. Analytical results indicated that SOVC reinforced the influences of online comments on attitude and purchase intention. Thus, marketers should consider the role of virtual communities when implementing WOM strategy online.Item type:Item, The effects of outpatient co-payment policy on healthcare usage by the elderly in Taiwan(2006-07-01) ;Huang, Jen-Hung ;Tung, Chen-Mei ;管理科學系Department of Management ScienceAging and declining health are intrinsically related and are resulting in increasing healthcare spending in many countries. Control of healthcare spending and patient usage behavior are linked. This study examines the healthcare usage behavior of chronically ill elderly patients in Taiwan following an increase in co-payments. The differences in usage behavior are interpreted by comparing the frequency of hospital visits and the types of hospitals chosen by patients before and after the implementation of the new co-payment policy. Claim data of the Taipei branch of the National Health Insurance Bureau (NHIB) is used as a basis for this analysis. Analysis results indicate that choice of hospital type by the elderly is affected by an increase in co-payment, but that difference of the hospital type choice before and after the co-payment increase is too small to be practically significant. However. the frequency of visits decreased significantly after the implementation of the new co-payment policy. Medical care costs per visit for individual patients and for the National Health Insurance system both increased significantly. Visit frequency and hospital type choice, as well as diagnosis and treatment cost and co-payment, all show significant differences among different age groups of the elderly. The effects of co-payment increases are also discussed from the viewpoint of patients and of governmental policy. (c) 2005 Elsevier Ireland Ltd. Results of an experiment in which the density of the homepage screen was manipulated show that participants prefer homepages with a moderate screen density, that homepage screen density significantly influences the website evaluations of intuiting and feeling types, but not of sensing and thinking types, and that the influence of homepage screen density on website evaluation varies according to individual cognitive style. The practical implications of the fmdings are that although a moderate-density homepage design is a condition for general positive website evaluations, the influence of individual difference in relation to personality types must also be considered.
