Item type:Item, A Class-D Amplifier Powered by Embedded Single-Inductor Bipolar-Output Power Module with Low Common Noise and Dynamic Voltage Boosting Technique(2014-01-01) ;Chen, Shin-Hao ;Lin, Kuei-Liang ;Ng, Shao Siang ;Chen, Ke-HorngWey, Chin-LongThis paper proposes a high efficiency Class-D amplifier (CDA) with embedded single-inductor bipolar output (SIBO) power module. The characteristics of SIBO converter\'s bipolar outputs not only suppress equivalent common mode noise but also remove several large external bulky components in conventional boost supply CDA systems. Since bipolar outputs in the SIBO provide independent driving capability, CDA is capable of operating in both single-ended (SE) and bridge-tide load (BTL) configurations. Furthermore, the proposed dynamic voltage boosting (DVB) technique adjusts the SIBO output voltage level according to the CDA\'s output level with 5% power efficiency improvement. Peak total harmonic distortion plus noise (THD+N) performance is 0.012%. Peak power efficiency of SIBO and CDA are 89% and 93.2%, respectively.Item type:Item, Batteryless 275mV Startup Single-Cell Photovoltaic Energy Harvesting System for Alleviating Shading Effect(2013-01-01) ;Huang, Chao-Jen ;Su, Yi-Ping ;Chen, Ke-Horng ;Huang, Li-RenChu, Fang-Chihwithout any batteries, a low input voltage converter is presented for a single-cell (SC) photovoltaic (PV) energy harvesting to alleviate the energy degradation due to shading effect. The proposed low voltage startup (LVS) circuit with low input voltage of 275 mV and less than 840 ms startup time achieves high voltage conversion ratio to supply a high accuracy bandgap reference. Experimental results show the maximum power throughput is up to 6 mW and the quiescent power is less than 650 mu W with integrated two buck-boost converters and two boost converters. The peak efficiency of the boost converter can be up to 75.8% for ultra-low voltage hearing aid systems.Item type:Item, Batteryless 275mV Startup Single-Cell Photovoltaic Energy Harvesting System for Alleviating Shading Effect(2013-01-01) ;Huang, Chao-Jen ;Su, Yi-Ping ;Chen, Ke-Horng ;Huang, Li-RenChu, Fang-Chihwithout any batteries, a low input voltage converter is presented for a single-cell (SC) photovoltaic (PV) energy harvesting to alleviate the energy degradation due to shading effect. A self-powered soil water content sensor was applied as the trigger of alert event. It solves the energy supply problem by an environmental interrupt mechanism, which wakes up the sensor and communication circuits in a sensing node only when the water content in monitored soils exceeds a certain threshold, and thus completely eliminates the need for an ALS node to periodically wake up, sense and communicate. By tightly integrating energy harvesting, environment sensing and circuit wake-up, it may well be the most energy-efficient landslide surveillance system designed to monitor water content in soils in the world.Item type:Item, Invited: Wireless sensor nodes for environmental monitoring in Internet of Things(2016) ;Lu, Ting-Chou ;Huang, Li-Ren ;Lee, Yu ;Tsai, Kun-JuLiao, Yu-TeThis paper presents a self-sustainable landslide surveillance system that detects hazardous water content level in soils and provides real-time landslide warnings to residents, without requiring wired electricity transmission. By implementing a one-cycle buck DC-DC converter, we demonstrate that the dynamic power MOSFET width controlling technique has much improvement in power reduction when the load current is light or heavy. The maximum efficiency of the buck converter is about 92% with 3% efficiency improvement for the heavy load condition. Besides, the efficiency can be enormously improved about 16% for light load condition as a result of the power reduction from the large power MOSFET transistors. Meanwhile, we also propose a new error correction loop circuit (ECL) to get a better load regulation than that of the previous designs. Furthermore, as compared to the adaptive gate driver voltage technique, the optimum power MOSFET width can achieve a great improvement on power saving. It is a better power-saving technique than the low-voltage-swing MOSFET gate drive technique for switching DC-DC converters.Item type:Item, Single Inductor Quad Output Switching Converter with Priority-Scheduled Program for Fast Transient and Unlimited-load Range in 40nm CMOS Technology(2014-01-01) ;Chen, Wei-Chung ;Huang, Tzu-Chi ;Tsai, Tsu-Wei ;Peng, Ruei-HongLin, Kuei-LiangSystem-on-a-chip (SoC) applications need multiple power supplies with low noise for analog circuits and high efficiency for digital circuits. Thus, this paper proposes the priority-scheduled program (PSP) for single inductor quad output (SIQO) switching converter to manage energy delivery for four outputs. Consequently, SIQO converter with PSP can provides fast transient response and reduce cross-regulation. Besides, the level bypass detector (LBD) provides unlimited load range between each output through the shared inductor. The PSP cooperates with the LDB to transfer energy to low priority outputs to avoid overshoot at high priority outputs. With the two low-dropout regulator (LDR) working as buffers at low priority outputs, voltage disturbance can be filtered out. The SIQO converter fabricated in 40nm CMOS technology satisfies power requirements in portable electronics with 0.2% low noise, 15 mu s fast transient response, and cross-regulation smaller than 30mV.
