Item type:Item, EEG alpha blocking correlated with perception of inner light during Zen meditation(2003) ;Lo, PC ;Huang, ML ;Chang, KM ;電控工程研究所Institute of Electrical and Control EngineeringAccording to the experimental results and practitioners' subjective experience, we report some hypotheses that may account for meditative phenomena during the practice of Zen-Buddhism. Orthodox Zen-Buddhist practitioners, aiming to prove the most original true-self, discover and uncover the inner energy or light on the way towards their goal. Perception of the inner light can be comprehended as resonance. Uncovering the inner energy optimizes physiological and mental health. In the meditation experiment, a significant correlation was observed between perception of the inner light and electroencephalographic (EEG) alpha blockage. We further examined this phenomenon by recording the EEG from subjects during a blessing that the subjects did not know being given. During the blessing period, significant alpha blocking was observed in experimental subjects who had been practicing meditation for years in preparation for being in resonance with the inner light. This report provides a new insight into the debate that meditation benefits our health.Item type:Item, Graphical analysis of capability of a process producing a product family(2005-10-01) ;Huang, ML ;Chen, KS ;Li, RK ;工業工程與管理學系Department of Industrial Engineering and ManagementStatistical techniques are effective and powerful means of quantifying the variability of processes, analyzing this variability with reference to product requirements, and eliminating this variability in product manufacturing. Many process capability indices have been effectively and widely used to determine whether the quality of a process meets preset targets. However, conventional process capability indices cannot be applied to assess the entire process capability of a product family with nominal-the-best specifications. This work presents a novel process capability index (C-pp(T)), which takes into account all family members. The index C-pp is a simple transformation from index C-pm, and C-pp(T) provides additional, individual information concerning the accuracy and precision of a process. Vannman's (delta, gamma)-plot [Vannman and Deleryd, Quality and Reliability Engineering International 15(3): 213-217 (1999)] is revised to compare the process capabilities of family members under both 100% inspection and sampling plans. Examples are provided to demonstrate the method's practical application.Item type:Item, Process capability analysis for an entire product(2001-11-01) ;Chen, KS ;Huang, ML ;Li, RK ;工業工程與管理學系Department of Industrial Engineering and ManagementProcess capability indices (PCIs) are powerful means of studying the process ability for manufacturing a product that meets specifications. Several capability indices including C-p, C-pu, C-pl and C-pk have been widely used in manufacturing industry to provide common quantitative measures on process potential and performance. The formulas for these indices are easily understood and can be straightforwardly applied. However, those process capability indices are inappropriate for asymmetric tolerances and could not be applied to evaluate multiprocess products. Based on C-p, C-pu, C-pl and C-pk, this research aims to develop one process capability analysis chart (PCAC) for precisely measuring an entire product composed of symmetric tolerances, asymmetric tolerances, larger-the-better and smaller-the-better characteristics. The process capability analysis chart evaluates the capabilities of multi-process products and provides chances for continuous improvement on the manufacturing process.
